I know this is a bit early but it would be really nice if one could already now look out for linkshells that already have decided that they will move to FF14 or other guild/groups from other MMO:s that will either move to FF14 or create a branch in FF14. This also applies to new linkshells that don’t exist in any MMO/game yet, but have a website and wants to recruit for FF14.

Some hardcore gamers like to develop linkshell status prior to the game going live or even hitting beta. Aion gamers did the same thing so I half-heartedly expected this at some point. More so from the current end-game shells looking to migrate to XIV with most of their current players since they know they will be "of better quality."

I think SE expects the same so that's why the friends list will carry over. Nothing is more promising than starting the game with online friends you have already made, IMO.

Lol, we don't even know if we are going to be able to pick servers or if they will be assigned to us. If I remember rite when FFXI started you couldn’t pick your own server could you, idk I have only played for 2 years. What use is a Linkshell with members on 20 different servers? Plus letting people pick there own server might prove disastrous with worldwide servers because servers could become disproportionately Japanese or American and the poor saps that weren’t that nationality would be screwed. I feel there is a very good chance Square Enix will assign you a server based on time zone and language parameters so that each server’s population is relatively similar in these 2 aspects.

There was a way around that, with world pass, or when you created a character, you simply deleted it until the game assigned to the server that you wanted. I think SE will NOT make it random start servers, as they know a lot of people from other games such as WoW and FFXI will move with friends and also with their entire Guilds/LS.

I highly doubt that they are going to randomly assign servers. They did it with FFXI, and changed it because of player demand, so why would they revert that decision on this game?

ESPECIALLY knowing that a pretty hefty amount of their existing player base will want to try the new game, and likely will come over in groups. It just doesn't make any sense for them to randomly assign servers this time around. It just doesn't.

I agree with the others, they will not do this. They have already said they are looking into allowing people to keep their names and LS names when people move to XIV, but they have in no way said this will actually happen yet. But, they wouldn't mention it, or say they Flist will move over if they were going to assign people to random servers. It will probably be like it is now, a list of servers and you pick where you want to go.

As for this tread... I even have to say my friends and I are guilty of already putting things togther for XIV so we all know who's coming, and get on the same server. But... on the flip side I wouldnt put up my LS's name or stuff, someone might take a fancy to it and take it. XD

You'll be able to pick your server. If a server reaches capacity, they'll just close it to new accounts.
