It's too early to tell is the only answer that makes sense. However, SE did give away they plan on using anything they can in previous FF games. This applies to the game engine, story lines, and characters. So it's possible we might see some of these things in FFXIV although I wouldn't hold my breathe.

Ok, this is from something that I posted in the 'Gear System' Thread.

Not saying it is an ultimate solution, but it just an idea (among many) that have been posted in that thread.

And it happens to deal with materia.

Oh and in before the 'That's just Jewelcrafting slots in WOW' argument.

Materia slots. They give new abilities or spells as well as stat upgrades.

For example:
'Materia: White Magic I' (Can only be equipped in a Staff lvl 1, Wand lvl 1, sword lvl 10) Grants the user the ability to cast 'Cure', 'Protect', 'Blindna', 'Poisona'

and combine it with other requirements like :

'Cure': Requires White magic skill of 1

'Protect': Requires White magic Skill of 7

'Blinda': Requires White Magic skill of 7

'Poisona': Requires White Magic skill of 8

Staff skill increases Magic potency skill, staff melee skill.

etc etc.

Just a thought.

I am not trying to say a materia system is in the works, it was just an idea on a thread about possibilities concerning how the new gear system would work. Given how the developers have emphasized the importance of Weapons (and thus gear) in FFXIV, I just thought it might be pertinent to post this once more in the 'Materia' thread.

Actually it's called "Libel"... and only if it is fabricated, but hey, you are the admin.

Materia =/= FFVII.

Just because it originated from VII doesn't mean that a person who likes the materia system is overly obsessed with getting an online FFVII. Please, get over yourselves.
