The Races of FFXIV (without sexism arguments)Follow

I was reading the another forum here an zam, and It turned into a huge mess of jumbled retorts and nonsense, so i figured i will start this over.

My ideas are as follows:

Female Galka
I can easily see this, I would maybe even play one (I am a male) mainly because I like playing the stranger side of things or the uncommon races/classes.

Gria
I could see how this would be pretty awesome, but for some reason I don't see it happening, I could be incredibly wrong but that is just my gut feeling telling me this. I usually don't accept those "to-good-to-be-true" moments

Male Mithra
Sure, why not. I never understood why people complain so much about "why the have to play this ***" examples being: Female Mithra in XI, or in WAR having to be female to be a Witch Elf, or having to be male to be a chosen or marauder. I know there are role players out there that might disagree, but I can get attached to any character no matter the *** or "prettiness" of them

Other Race ideas
Never played XII, but I think if they are gonna bring in male mithra, I don't think those bunny rabbit ladies would be a good thing to bring in. Otherwise we get more of a problem from the complainers

I can see S-E pulling an EQ and bringing in a reptilian race. I think that would be pretty awesome. They already have some in other FF games

Factions
I forgot what MMO it was, but in the character creation, u chose race, then the faction of that race. It was a neat little thing, and depending on the faction u would get slighly different physical characteristics and statistical as well.

an example for what could have been for FFXI
make a hume that started in Bastoc darker skinned and taller(Arabian or African styled), while a Hume of Sandoria would be shorter and paler( Early European look)

I think that would be a nice little touch because It makes you more attached with the region your in, the quests you do, and the attachment to your character.

These are just some of my ideas, and plz keep it clean but feel free to get outside the ol' box there

good ideas!

not sure about the pick the region determines characteristics of the character idea...
i mean... i was a taru starting out in sandoria... because I liked Tarutaru.... but I liked the "kingdom/mid evil" aspect of sandoria

I really wanted to look how i wanted to and be where i wanted to be from. I just think i would get frustrated if i was forced to be from a certain place because i want my character to look like "this" or be forced to look like "this" because i wanted to be from a certain place. just my opinion

I don't know much about gria... i understand they are a dragon like race? sounds cool, sure :)

The Viera (bunnies from ffxii) i actually liked a lot and wouldnt mind seeing similar entities in ffiv... honestly if you ask me mithra are a little bit too cliche... the anime/jrpg communities obsession with cat people is just overdone imo. I think viera where new and exciting.

I think as long as they don't add cow people i will be happy though.

I like the concept of seperate cosmetic choices for each nation, but it wouldn't float as the only way to make everyone happy is to just let them create a character the way they want it to look, and give everyone the same options regardless of choice.

This also includes making male/female options for every race available.

The trick to character customozation is you will never be able to trully make everyone happy. You limit their options and they complain they can't play the character they trully wanted. You give them enough options and they complain they now have to party next to a 125 lb. pink Galka with a lisp.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Overall, I feel they will include male/female for all playable races, and throw in one or two more. I also feel they will stick to the same type of character creation, and toss in a whole bunch of new options (heads and hair).

I have stated this many times and ill be proud to state this again.

I would like to see both male and female counter parts for all races. I would also like to see these new races for a total of 10 options.

Moogle: This would be a taru alt. Also would give the game more of the FF feel that the developers stated they wanted. (was playable in ffVI

Bangaa: This was my alt choice for Elvann. They look rather strong and pretty tall.

Ronso: This was my alt for Galka. A proud race of Tiger like warriors. Strong and resiliant probably my fav.

Viera: My alt for Mithra. Do I need to explain really?

I didnt feel like humans needed an alt so I feel that this was enough.

I think it would be cool to take a little bit of characters from a wide variety of FF titles. The biggest thing would be to make the models fit in the enviorment naturally.

Dude f*ck yeah man. Ronso > Galka. I'm usually really guided in my character choices by aesthetics, but I'd totally smash with a Ronso.

and to the OP. There can never be a female Galka, they are asexual creatures. They don't have weiners or vajayjays.

If you look close (i'm an artist and designer and sound easy for me to catch details), you can see the reptilian race from FFXII:
Is that little red head near "F" of "Final Fantasy XIV" logo
(is a top wiew head).
I dont know how to link the detail, but i'm sure that race will be implemented^^

This has already been talked about and its not reptilian its a hume lunging forward looking down... Its the bald hume with tattoos on his head you can see the nose poking out... Its concept art so i guess i can see why people are getting confused but honestly there are no races in the logo other than the mithra/taru/hume/galka/elvaan. maybe you should look at the details closer >.>

As for ronso, i do love ronso but i only liked Kimahri... he was built the best... all the other ronsos seemed too lean and just thrown together. so if they were mostly modeled after him i'de be ok with it!

I really hope they don't add troll/orc type characters as playables... they are in every other mmo, they are always ugly... ew ew ew ew ew

Just to offer another idea. The interview said that although the old races look the same they are not. They could be called different names aswell as different history so the fact is that not only will they look different but the old facts aka (only playing female mithra and male galka) will not exist because they are no longer known as Galka or Mithra int he FFXIV universe.

The "Galka" in the FFXIV teaser seems to be have changed to a bigger type of Hume. There is no tail anymore and the ears are visible. If the Hume assumption is correct then he'll definitely have a "ding dong" and there could definitely be a "vajayjay"-version out there.

I cant belive someone thinked to one hand lol!

ok... i see why you think its a bangaa but... I think you are looking at it the wrong way its just part of all the other characters... all of them are coming out of the center... it makes 0 sense that there would just be a floating head right there your eyes are playing tricks on you...

For me that "BANGAA" have the same position of the tattoed hume and monk hume on the left, but the hume is seeing down and the BANGAA is seeing up whit the entire body hidden, but WEARING THAT SPEAR WHO IS TOO SMALL FOR THE BIG HUME IN FRONT LOL.
If SE showed the body all have recognized the new race on the first hour max^^

Pratycally imagine that BANGAA have the same posture of the monk on the right:
Body is coming down, whit the head looking up!

Post-Tolkien fantasy elves (popularized by the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game) tend to be more beautiful and wiser than humans, with sharper senses and perceptions. It used to be that elves didn't have facial hair, and were considered androgynous. However, lately in most media, elves have light facial hair, and larger lips. A hallmark of fantasy elves is also their long and pointed ears (a convention

This is the Elf concept I expected for FFXI and was let down by the Elvaan race. I'm hoping SE gets it right this time. Elves are supposed to be good at using magic and quick on their feet, not the opposite. The Galka/dwarf types should be strongest because of their bulk.

I don't think its worth guessing from the concept art what races we'll have, its too hard to tell. For example the 'reptiles' ears, could just be the dudes feet, if its a shot looking down on him.

I'd love to see male "mithra" and female "galka" in the game. In the concept art, the character at the top at ~ 1:00 (with the long black hair covering half the face) looks to me like it could be female galka. Hugely muscular upper body but slimmer than a male.

I don't know why you expected that.

Remember, this is first and foremost a Japanese game. Tolkien Elves are American/European Elves. In the Japanese culture, Elves tend towards the side of physically strong, not magical.

It's one of those culture differences you gotta get used to.

I fail to see why female galka are..well... hard to see. One of the First thing S-E said was that the races will be similar but they will not be the same. Meaning that u have to scratch old lore and their old characteristics off your current radar of the races.

I would also like to state, that I see nothing at that point in the logo other then a bunch of random blotches of color. I could be completely wrong here, but that looks like the point where the artists stopped trying to make sense.

I could easily see a reptilian race though, to counter the galka and mithra of mammal animal-like races. Yes I know humes and elves would be mammals too, it is hard to explain what I mean. I'm saying for every cat there should be a lizard.

It's slightly possible. They did say this game was going to be more sci-fi than FFXI, in the tone of FFX

So the possibility of NPCs that might have something like a prosthetic robotic arm (Something like Auto-mail in Full Metal Alchemist), would not be unfeasible. However, it would be unlikely that such a thing would be available in player characters.

why do people QQ so much about a race restricted species?

Honestly it's the way they made the game quit complaining... I am not bothered by Galka since they are A-sexual. Mithra they cover in the story i believe something about being a female dominant species and the males don't fight or something.

They gave logic as to why you don't see them... sitting here saying "zomg even tho galka r a-sexual i still want a female!!!" doesn't change anything. IF they chose to do it great, but they are changing a race they already said is A-sexual.

i don't know? its actually pretty cool that they restrict *** on some races. in FFXI, it added alot of depth to the background story of those races. i am content with whatever the devs put in the game because i trust there will be enough balance between the races.

i still think it would be cool to have a cyborg/mech race, though :)

This isn't Vanadiel, Those aren't "Mithra" or "Galka" they just look like Mithra and Galka. Square can do anything with them they want because they can (and most likely are) ignoring the backstory for Mithra and Galka. They only look the same to make FFXI players feel more comfortable.

They aren't going to have the same backstories anymore. They're going to be different races in every way other than apperance. They've said that they're only bringing the FFXI species over in appearance to make FFXI players comfortable, but that they will in actuality be different otherwise.

So the new "Mithras" will have a different backstory and the new "Galkas" will too.

In any case, I'm just hoping against ***-restricted species just so everyone has more options.

Hoping Gria's -- and more -- are available for choosin'. Bangaa would be badass. And as much as I want Moogles, I'm not holding my breath there.

Nobody yet mentioned the wolf people in 5 and 6. I forget where they appear in 5 but they are allover in 6. You can see them in towns allver then theres the ever infamous "Lonewolf" encounter when you get Mog. I think it woul dbe cool to add them in too. **** Id like to see every race thats ever been in an ff!

Personally, I still strongly support Pwyff's suggestion of an axe-wielding Moogle race: pure win. They're the quintessential race of the final fantasy universe and I think I liked their incarnation in ffxii the best: they were simply brilliant, kupo!

Other races that I'd tentatively guess at might be Male and Female Mithra (yes, I agree that if the female version can look like the Viera, that's be quite something). A "Hume", "Galka" and "Elvaan" race for sure (as seen from the trailer) and a Gria (that can hopefully become a substitute for an axe-wielding moogle: there I go again, yeah?).

That said, I won't mind an Aegyl race (from ffxii reverant wings thingy) even though the logo doesn't seem to hint at one. And I salute everyone who voted for a Ronso race (Kimahri was the business)

This is my future FFXIV Character and this is his theme...at least that's the tentative plan. Yep. (Concept Art of Rasler by the legendary Akihiko Yoshida) I asked for the Qiqirn to be added in FFXIV since October 2009 and we now have them! Yessss!

I have a feeling the next time SE update the XIV website, we'll have some clarifications. I don't think they'll tell us but tease us. For example they are gonna show the 5 races we kno, tell us what they are now called and historical backgrounds with a pic of both male and female (if they do this with Galka and Mithra this is where we'll find out). If there are more races then I would guess they'll have 2 more races, both would be shown as "???" and the images of them will be blacked out just showing their outlines giving us another teaser for more guessing. Forums would go crazy with ppl saying "Oh! This race looks like so-and-so!" while others be, "No-no-no! I think it looks more like these from here." type stuff. Tho I would rather kno asap, this does seem like something they would do, and personally it would make me more hyped over the game as the suspense keeps building up.

SMN is just epic in it's scope. You gain fame in all cities to have their avatars. When others finish ToAU, they get toys; you get gods.
