Long time ago when FFXI was announced. I was excited to hear they were putting Tetra Master in the game. Sadely thought it was a seperate entity to FFXI world.

I want to discuss the possibility of them implementing a card game into FFXIV. CoMpLeTe SpEcUlAtIoN!

I would love it if they added a card game system like FFVIII. Not necessarily the way the game is played, but the benefits associated with it. For example: Every monster has a chance of dropping a game card when you kill it. You could choose to challenge NPC's or players at the card game for a chance of winning a number of cards used in the game by your opponent. In addition to this, like in FFVIII, you could redeem X-amount of a specific card toward an item, weather it be an npc given item like an "item mall"(to use a negative term) or a skill to procure an item from the magic in the card.

A minigame like this would be something not done before in an MMORPG that i'm aware of, and would give players something to do beyond the normal grinding to max level.

Anybody else's input or ideas for other minigames? Keep to the final fantasy franchise of what's been done and elaborate on it.

Like a DECADE ago I drew up a concept for a Final Fantasy trading card game, not unlike Magic: The Gathering or Pokemon TCG. Frankly if they made one of those with actual cards, I'd be all over it. So if they made one in the game where I didn't have to pay hundreds of dollars for little pieces of cardboard, that would just be amazing. Card games like those are fun all on their own.

I wouldn't be nearly as happy about a Tetra Master or Triple Triad type game, though honestly they should just at least put some kind of card game in. I'll really be disappointed if they don't even make an effort.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

I'd love to see a gold saucer type area in the game, where players gather to do things like bet on/be in chocobo races, challenge each other to various arcade games (snowboarding a la FFVII, anyone?!), and spend time just doing silly things like popping balloons and what not. A quick run down of possibilities:

- The "boxing" minigame (players choose high/middle/low, game works like rock/paper/scissors)
- The submarine minigame (players hunt each other down in subs and attack!)
- The snowboarding minigame (a race to the bottom of a hill)
- The motorcycle minigame (a race to the end of a road while dodging/hitting enemies for points)

I'd ALSO love to see an in-game card game like mentioned above. Every monster - even bosses - has a chance to drop a card in its likeness which players can use to play against each other. They can choose whether or not they want to play "for keeps". ****, you can make tournaments out of that for gil, quests that reward players with cards, etc.

Talk about a whole new, cool aspect of the game that's not centered around grinding, huh?

the golden saucer idea is good too. Every offline Final Fantasy Since FF7 has had some sort of minigame events to participate in or not. Now most MMORPG's only have crafting systems which could be considered mini-game-esque.

X had blitzball which was interresting, but I don't htink it would be implimentable in an mmorpg as easily as a card game.

But what other games can u think of.

I actually really enjoyed the Chocobo Digging game in FF9. I think XI has something similar with Chocobo Hot and Cold but I never played it.

I think duels should be added, which would be minigame-ish. Basically you just issue a challenge to a player, they accept, and you fight. You don't necessarily win anything and you don't lose anything, but it's just a fun way to kill time.

Chocobo jousting might be fun. I'm also really looking forward to the prospect of airships playing a bigger role in this game than hands-off transportation. Airship races and battles would be great.

Those are just more along the lines of the obvious things. To actually come up with unique minigames, the possibilities are endless.

For example, a hide and seek type game. You try to find a Cactaur who's trying to hide from you, but in the mean time you're trying to avoid a Tonberry who is chasing you.

I mean, there are so many possibilities, I really wouldn't know where to start.

lol chocobo jousting sounds awesome!!!

oh i got one better.
TaruTaru Jousting!

Any Tarutaru can utilize a taller player to be on their shoulders and joust.
Or better yet.. any other player can sit on a tarutaru's shoulder to joust!!

I always enjoyed Tetra Master in FF9, it would have been fun to play in FFXI but it sucked that you had to log out in order to do so. At any rate I think some kind of mini-game would be great in FFXIV for those times you are sitting around waiting for a group to get together, or for the airship to arrive, or to pop a NM or whatever.

On another note, how about an ACTUAL Coliseum this time around? I was never big into PvP at all, but it would be cool to have tournaments set up around an arena that enables 1 on 1 or 3 vs 3 or whatever. At the end there could be a purse that paid out the total of the entry fees to the winner or consumables etc. Even just quick duels could be done. SE could probably even make such an event the focus of an entire town.

forgot about the coliseum.

Wouldn't mind that... but like FFVI style! I have to donate or use an item to wager on a fight w/ an unspecified NPC. I have of chance of winning "XXXXX" if I defeat him. have it a 1 v 1 battle like it was in FFVI!

I also want to see an updated "Spinich Rag" song make it way to FFXIV! one of my fav. songs from Uematsu!
