I have a theory on the XP/Leveling/Job system.

The artwork shows what appear to be several children.

I think instead of levels gained from XP there will be some system where your character ages as they progress. So when you begin, you are a child and as you level you get older. If we get subjobs I would guess that there is some system that takes into account your experience for all jobs when playing a job. Such as, if you are playing your main job and it is capped, you may appear to be near end of adolescence. As you play other jobs, you would get older again. So ever job you capped, the affects of aging would slow down a little more because they wouldn't want a bunch of dragoon's trying to <Jump> with their walkers. Or of no subjobs, maybe every job starts as a child? The subjob theory seems more appealling though.

Anyway, that is my theory.

Remember, you heard it hear first.

Very unlikely.

I don't think they would implement something like that because casual players will be stuck as kids and hardcore players will be playing with an old man. SE said they are gonna make it balanced for both.

you would level up from child to young adult very fast. In the art there isn't any older people. Only children and young adults.

i do like this theory , @ E3 Devs said something abouts "growth" (this is the word they used) when talking about the leveling system they put.

An interesting theory, but it’s not going to be implemented.

Haha, no but you have people that have played MMO's for 15 years and know from experience what works and what won't.

Maybe it just hasn't been implemented correctly and the FFXIV team feels that they can do it right.

I would maybe hold back on labeling yourself a pre-cognitive expert on anything about FFXIV at this point. You've been wrong about most things to do with it so far ;D

That having been said, "growth" is not synonymous with "aging" and while we can't rule it out, I can't personally see a system like that being put into place. It helps to remember that this is an SE game and character age in concept art means approximately jack.

I didn’t say _I_ was one of those experts. Also I have not been wrong with anything regarding FF14 since we have 0 information about the game and it can go either way.

I wouldn't say "0 information". With regards to leveling systems, job systems, audience appeal, and combat systems we've been given enough information to speculate to a certain extent. How relevant that speculation might be tends to revolve around how much of the information that has been released has been read by a given individual and how much of what was read was properly comprehended.

I'm expecting to see a much more diverse character development system than what has been offered in previous MMOs and there's any number of different directions that could go, but at the same time I think rejecting ideas when no information has been released to substantiate the rejection is maybe not the best idea (and not the least bit fun :P).

I make a character the way I want it to look, I'd be a little ****** if it sprouted a beard or lost an eye because I logged on wasted. And playing as a child until I reach a high level... My roommates would call the cops if I changed jobs.

I can't see them adding systems like that simply because these games are meant to be played for years, and auto-save is unavoidable.

Initially WAR had this as their meathod, it didn't work out so I don't even think that system got to Beta. I'm sure no matter what happens the majority will be surprised or happy with SEs decision, and then gripe about it weeks later ^.~

I fully expect that once FFXIV goes live, it will be at most a month or two before we are graced with yet another, "NEW RACE IN NEXT EXPANSION?!?!?!" thread, with another nearly identical thread at least once every three months, followed by speculation over whether or not you will be allowed to change races with your current characters.

I didn’t want to get into the details as to why I don’t think that would not happen since the idea presents a lot of difficulties and other complications that is really pointless to discuss and would expand over several pages. I rather concentrate my time to argue about things that has a _high_ probably of being implemented then something that has a _low_ probability.

That being said I’m not saying don’t post your ideas however crazy they seem to be, that is up to each of us.
