Let say that SE will add SMN in FFXIV, if they do would you prefer them to add the old FF summons or make completely new ones how they tried with FFXII? also list the ones you would like them to be replaced with.

I would like the the current ones to be replaced by the zodiac ones again.

I'd rather see the old ones.

Titan
Ifrit
Shiva
Carbuncle
Ramuh
Odin
Leviathan
Bahamut
Phoenix
Alexander
Siren
Cactuar (half kidding)
Diabolos
Kjata
Typhoon
Quezacotl
Twin Brothers
Pandemona
Doomtrain
Fenrir
Valefor (replacing Quezacotl maybe?)
Anima

plenty of great oldies to choose from. no need to reinvent them. just throw them in there!

I totally disagree with you and I think that they should stick with the originals like Ifirit, Shiva, Garuda, Carbuncle, Diablos etc. and also add some of those who werent there like Quetzalcoatl, Brothers, an Siren who werent included in FFXI. They espers in FFXII arent even that well known and will probaly take away from the people who know the original summonings.

Old one, such as:

Pheonix: Casts Life/rebirth on party.

Asura (queen of summons/wife to leviathan): Casts Curaga II on party; random buffs and cure goodies.

The Espers in FFXII were actually pretty cool, IMO, however, they wouldn't fit in this game. They fit for the Ivalice games, but not anything else, so I would personally prefer the old, traditional summons. Here's hoping that Alexander is playable!!

the summons in FF12 are old.

they ALL come from FFT on the ps1 but with slight name changes.

these espers im talking about are the bad guys in FFT who got transformed thru the zodiac stones.

the big sheep dude in FFT, is the first summon u get in FF12. etc etc etc

Like Kharmageddon said, I hope they stick to the well known summons from the FF series.

And from what we've seen so far on FFXIII they have confirmed Shiva, Odin and Carbuncle.

Let's hope it's the same in FFXIV, as it was in FFXI.

The Zodiac summons in FFXII were okay. But I love the originals. ;)

(edit)

I know some love it, some won't, but maybe a return of "Knights of the Round", but as it's an MMO, the summon would be a random summon of 1 of the 13 knights, each with slighlty different skills.

Weren't the Espers in part 3/6 too? I'm thinking it's actually part 6, but was originally released in NA as part 3. Something like that anyway.

That is correct. Due to the fact that Final Fantasy 2 and 3 (in Japan) were not released here in the US until much later (on a different system)

As for summons I want to see. I actually want to see Ark hit the field and just be amazing. I mean it was a boat that turned into a gundam. You can't get cooler than that... ok maybe you can but I mean come on.

Summoner 1: I summon Carbuncle!
Summoner 2: I summon Fenrir!
Summoner 3: I summon this friggen Boat that turns into a Killer Robot!! Now go GIGA DRILL BREAKERRRRR!!!

i dont care what they do for summons so long as bahamut is an option. **** they could make the other summons my little ponies for all i care so long as i can summon bahamut as well

bahamut > all

summons

non elemental = bahamut

wind = garuda

ice = shiva

fire = ifrit and/or phoenix

lightning = ramuh is fine but i became quite fond of ixion when playing X

earth = titan

dark = fenrir and/or odin and/or anima

light = carbuncle and/or valefore...but carbuncle has priority. in XI theres like 2-3 dark summons, but one light...what up with that <not counting the elementals, only avatars> we're heros arent we? lets get some light in there lol

There can be more than one summon per element. For example, I'd love to see ifrit AND phoenix. Ifrit would have strong single target attacks and his limit might be a big meteor or something. Phoenix would be more of an AoE casting summon and its limit would revive the entire party and do AoE damage to foes. There's never a reason to leave anything out.

edit - i hope you can control summons to at least the same extent as in XI

edit 2 - it would be really cool to get Knights of the Round. Someone above had the idea that only one (random) knight gets summoned every time it gets used. I think that'd be awesome, especially if they all had totally different effects. Maybe one casts wall and shell on the whole party. Another one casts haste and a random elemental buff on the party and slow on the enemies. A third does massive AoE damage. All luck of the draw, and on a cool down that prevents you from spamming them back to back.

That's the other thing I'd love to see. You can summon EACH summon once every X minutes. Make them more powerful at the cost of the summoner really having to decide how to play each one and when to save it.

They specifically put this in the FF universe, therefore I want/hope they stick to the FF summons. Just re-invent them like they always do.

Classic summons (Ifrit, Titan, Ramuh, Shiva, etc.) are as integral to the Final Fantasy name as chocobos, moogles, crystals, and airships. Even in FFXII they appeared in name. They will make an appearance one way or another, though not necessarily as player-summonable.

EDIT: I would rather see new summons for the players to use, and have the Original summons used as Story line mobs.. or end game

Keeping with SE's goal of more character development, I think that they should have all the summons in the game. The wrinkle would be that a summoner can only control five of them. That would make the summoner job way more interesting and also way more strategic. Better yet, assign values to each summon and a summoner would have to choose weather to get five less powerful avatars of different elements or choose one or two stronger avatars of an element. Better yet trade in all your avatars for one super strong Bahamut. Thinking about this is driving me crazy. C'mon 2010

Honestly, this keeps getting brought up and I think it would be totally awesome. Having a certain amount of points associated with every ability or school of magic and letting people unlock new skills and add them to their character sounds awesome. Having 80 points and deciding whether taking 10 8-point summons or 2 40-point summons would be totally awesome. I love the whole point system idea and hope that this is the way the game is going to go. Talk about customization!

I agree! I would like to see new summons. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind having the originals in the game, but not if it contradicts with the lore they are trying to establish. If that happens, I would rather see some new creatures. I just hope they make them **** and cool. ^^

There are some summons that are ubiquitous to FF games in general. Ifrit, Shiva and Leviathan are 3 that come to mind as being ever present. Similarly, there always seem to be new summons as well. The three mentioned previously are almost guaranteed, though.

I think it would be interesting if they created a ton of new summons as well as bringing back the old ones. And to make it interesting, i'd say go with only being able to select 1 of each element type as you progress for your collection, but have at least 3-5 of each element to choose from. Then have it customizable to where the summons you choose can have different strengths and abilities, just to make it even more unique. (also weapon and armor selectable for each summon if possible)

its almost always a new world and we always, except for XII, have had more or less the same summons. at the very least we've had a mix of new and old, again the exception being XII...

whether they make new ones or not isnt the point, im fine with either <so long as they put bahamut as summonable> but it being a new world certainly doesnt support them making new ones

I highly doubt they will introduce a brand new group of summons in the online game, especially since it is so rare for SE to create a new summon in ANY game.

The ones in FFXII came from the totems in tactics.

The only question is WHAT summons will there be? Obviously Bahamut will be in game, but will he be a summon? I HOPE SO! And I hope he takes all my mp and most my hp to summon, only lasts 10 secs, and doesn't let me recast for an hour. BUT WHEN SUMMONED HE OWNS THE SCREEN.

I would easily give my online life (once an hour) for a bahamut summon that actually was a huge deal, as opposed to the wussy way summoner was dealt with in FFXI. ****, I can buy more reraises.

I like the way you think. As long as Bahamut isn't like the "only" ability you can have (e.g. you choose being able to summon him OR every other summon) I think that's a great cost for a great reward. I would gladly put my character at the brink of destruction, pretty much as often as I could, to use Bahamut. Besides, you know if you're in a party and about to use that ability, healers have your back -- if only to see Bahamut for a little longer.

I hope the Summoning abilities are awesome this time around. Summons are one of the aspects of FF that really keep me interested.

I like the classic summons myself. Also I wouldn't mind seeing some gag-summons like morbidly-obese chocobo and perhaps cait sith. He'd have the ability to inflict depression on mob by yelling obscenities through his mega-phone and that would cause them to hurt themselves. I'm a dreamer man.

I found this funny:

If I never have to read "doomtrain" again on these forums it will be too soon

Maybe the system will be a little like FFXII:RW where there are different tiers of a summon... several little imps going to a couple beasts and then finally the summon itself. I would like to see a system like that regardless of what summons they put in the game, but it probably won't happen that way

The old ones may return in new forms, but you be guaranteed that Bahamut, Odin, Pheonix, etc will be in FFXIV. SE didn't put them in FFXI for either "they were very, very lazy" or "they're holding off to make them 14 only". Odin and Bahamut would have been very easy to put into FFXI. Graphics were already there, they could have just shrunk them a little, added some spells, and that's it.

That said, if FFXIV is supposed to be the ultimate FF, all of the smns better be in there and who cares about the elementals.

All I really want is Shiva.
I'm a Shiva fanboy, anything with Shiva is good.
We know next to nothing about the world of FFXIV so I don't know what to expect when it comes to Summons; but really just give me Shiva. And make her look good, with long hairs and an elaborate outfit.

Other than that, I'd love to see classic Summons return. Shiva, Ifrit, Titan, Ramuh, Siren, Carbuncle, Leviathan, Diabolos. And maybe a Moogle summon, a Chocobo summon or a Cactuar summon!
