Meriting was a key part of FFXI and something that made this game unique because you dont have access to it til the level cap. Does anyone else think that they should go towards a skill tree or meriting or something else?

Personally I would like to see something new, but if they have to pick one go with the merit system because it gives you more freedom to what you are able to select then a skill tree(at least the standard skill trees you see in most RPGs)

I agree that way you can seperate the noobs from the real gamers. The ones who merit one something stupid have just lost an hour of leveling HAHAHA. I think you should earn it so there is more of a challenge.

Can you elaborate on the skill tree? What exactly do you mean? Like in WoW ?

Yea exactly like in WOW. I like FFXI's system because its more universal making your job of choice better all-around while in Skill Trees you can choose one in 3 choices. Ive played WOW before as a priest and if I was Shadow they wanted Holy and if I was holy they wanted Disc. Instead you can be a WHM who had better healing and you can have a BLM who has boosted up his spells.

But you want this talent tree to be available at the start when you level up or at the end when you have reached max level?

Meriting was an add-on to allow for more character customization and to add more end-game activities. Hopefully SE will have years of character customization available so there will be no need for meriting.

Thats what I'm hoping for but all MMO's have a skill tree which completely changes the job and makes it worse. I hope that they bring something that is not only original but something awesome maybe something from FFX or FFXII.
