I felt like typing a few things we've heard about the game, along with my interpretations. This has all probably been covered somewhere but rather than doing actual work, I'm summarizing. Deal.

FFXIV is Project Rapture. Surprise!

Crystals are back! For what? They look to be tied somehow to gameplay battle mechanics now.

The game is set to release in 2010. Beta will be longer than FFXI's. This means at latest, Beta should begin in early-mid 2010, potentially sooner.

Eorzea is the region of the world Haiderin that the game will be set in. No relation to other FF worlds has been revealed.

PlayOnline will be gone... not that I care. Not sure why people hated it so much. Just some crappy interface to log on.

PvP will not be an integral part of FFXIV. FFA PvP is out of the question. Most likely there will be something similar to Ballista (ala mini-games). If you want hardcore PvP, this is not the game for you. Might I suggest... uhhh... Tekken?

Developers have stated that they wanted to make the best Final Fantasy game they could. Some haters disagree but they felt this would be best accomplished in a multi-player online environment.
- WHAT THIS MEANS! --- This is entirely my interpretation, but I do not believe that words like those are thrown around casually by the SE folks. FFXI was an opportunity to get their feet wet but FFXIV, I'm expecting something solid.

Developers have stated that content is on the way for FFXI for the next year and they will continue to work on the game after that if players are interested.
- What this means --- Again, my interpretation. They are building a full-replace experience in FFXIV. FFXI will likely not last long once FFXIV is released, and if it does, it will be with a very small player-base. Not happy about it, just the way it is.

There are no levels or experience points, and weapons will be important in player development. There will be a replacement of "experience points" with some other skill/experience system that weapons will be an integral part of. You will not level but there will be another way to identify a player's strength and abilities.

Developers are expanding and potentially changing the job system. This is very ambiguous, but I will work under the assumption that there will be a job or something like a job that will allow a player to identify with specific abilities (healing, defending, attacking etc) that I will refer to as a job from here on out.

There is a high probability (not 100% verified) that a player will be able to switch "jobs" on the same character akin to FFXI.

Only races confirmed so far are those from FFXI, though others are being speculated upon. I would think there is a high probability that at least male mithra will now be playable (maybe Gria based on concept art). Races will have entirely different backstories and will only be similar in appearance to FFXI.

This game will very likely be a different game than WoW despite how much we compare the two. In fact, my opinion, it would be awesome if the term WoW was now replaced on the FFXIV forum entirely with "poopy diapers."

FFXIV will most likely not be FTP... Thank God... we want them to care about our opinion down the road. I suggest switching to Netflix, cutting the cable plan and putting your savings towards a subscription if times are tight. If you still can't manage, try spending some time at monster.com before logging onto FFXIV for too long.

FFXIV will have solo content and group content, though how much of each we're not sure yet. Personally, I'd like to be able to go out and solo if I can't find a party but not at the speed that I could in a group, just because it's challenging to organize a group of people successfully, and the more challenging, the better the reward should be in a fair world... again, my opinion.

Chocobos and moogles will return for FFXIV... though we're not sure how. My suggestion, battle-moogle-chocobo-knights.

The game will be more sci-fi than FFXI, however, it will still maintain some classical elements and a bit of that charm.

You can transfer your name from FFXI if you really want to... whippee. SquallCloudXXKnight will probably already be taken otherwise.

Uematsu returns.

Mobs may work in packs to fight your party in some cases, which leads us to the high possibility that controlling links will be essential, either that or everyone will be able to take a beating from mobs (or they will die pretty quickly).

Standing in a circle may be an important part of battle mechanics... well... uhh... at least a circle seems to be important, for some unexplained reason (See, FFXIV Logo).

Voice chat is unconfirmed, so is voiced-NPCs. If they make give me a voice like Tidus from FFX, I will be very upset. It worked for him, not for me.

Seasons may be a part of FFXIV, but how much this will impact gameplay is unknown. Some of us would like to see different mobs in different areas depending on the weather... or even better, mob migration!

360 not confirmed...Sorry. Might I suggest building a decent computer sometime next year. Pretty dummy-proof (I did it) and not too expensive.

Well, that's all I feel like typing for now. Maybe I'll add more later.

I actually expected this. Why not brand you game with one of the most know IP? It will help you tremendously in marketing your game.

I would love the idea ;D And it might be accurate ^^

Agreed.

Indeed.

I think that chance _is_ 100%.

I’m leaning towards that they will make the partying so much easier that people won’t care about solo. For example as a lot of other has posted, make the LFG tool 100x better then in FFXI. This you can steal from WoW actually since they have a superb LFG tool (you can also check many other MMO’s that have a lot better LFG tool then FFXI). Also solve the travelling issue please, so it doesn’t take 2 hours to reach our group destination. And also make the group of classes equally viable to invite, meaning dps classes should dash out roughly same dps, buff classes should give equally strong/beneficial buffs and healer healing roughly the same. Also add a bit more of the class groups that we always run low on, example tanks and healers.

The last part to improve grouping is to implement a level sync from FFXI, but with a limitation. Instead of have from level 1-75, you should limit it to 15 levels from the highest to the lowest in the party. This will help tremendously to find the player that you need, but at the same time remove the problem with people leveling only in low level areas and never move onto higher areas. There are many other factors that I have not though of how to form parties more easier and better, but these are the ones that popped out of my head ^^

Making grouping ideal would be great in my opinion. Some good ideas worked in there.
