Who else here is really really really excited to have nobuo uematsu on the sound track? I just love his music. Every game he writes music for always has an epic and unforgetable sound track. A big portion of my excitement for this game is for the soundtrack!

I'm pretty much the same way. About half the time when I'm listening to music around the house, I'm playing some FF music through the computer rather than listening to CDs. I tend to learn songs on the piano in pairs, and I'm pretty much always teaching myself at least one FF song at any time (on the last page of Distant Worlds right now... Jeweled Boughs is probably up next).

Here's a song I came across the other day that seems like it would fit in well in a FF game. But nah... I'd rather have some new original stuff from Uematsu.

I was very excited to hear that Uematsu is back. His music adds a feel to a game that I can't really describe. Even the pieces he did for FFXI, even though he wasn't the only composer, were still the best on the soundtrack IMO. I hope he is the only composer on this soundtrack. No offense to the other composers, their music was enjoyable too, but Uematsu is the best.

I agree ^_^ I love his music. I still listen to the FFXI piano collections sometimes.

I wouldn't go that far... they've got a really good composer in Mizuta as well. As far as XI goes, I'd say my favorites are about 50/50 Uematsu/Mizuta.

Now the XII soundtrack... I did not really care for that one. Hopefully, they'll be keeping Sakimoto away from this one.

Which Final Fantasy had the best soundtrack, in your opinion?

My personal favorite is FFIV, by none other than Nobio Uematsu. WoOt!!!
I cannot wait.

Kind of a toss up between VI and IX for me... I am, unfortunately, unfamiliar with IV.

Speaking of game music, check out what popped up on my recommendation list. That's just ******* awesome.

I was also excited to see that Uematsu was returning, especially since I had heard somewhere that he was more or less retiring. Anybody else a fan of The Black Mages?

Anyway, I really hope they do longer tracks for FFXIV. A 3 minute track in a zone that you're going to spend 300 hours in just doesn't cut it! Especially when that track is itself not musically intricate or complex. Not that there's anything wrong with simplicity normally, but when you're going to be listening to a track for that long, simplicity is going to translate pretty quickly into monotony.

I also think it'd be really cool if the boss/big fight tracks were more rock/metal than orchestral.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

Intricate pieces would be very welcome indeed. Given that XIV is an MMO, I think SE will keep in mind that it is meant to have a certain enduring quality about it, and hopefully the music will truly reflect this.

I dunno, I didn't think FFXI's music was too boring. It had charming melodies and helped set the tone quite nicely for diverse areas, especially if you paid particular attention to it. I just...don't know if I want any more electric bagpipes.

YES. FFVII: Advent Children's climactic battle scene with the metal-ized One Winged Angel. /fanboy. Anywho, given that FFXIV's setting will be more futuristic than FFXI's somewhat medieval setting, I think we can certainly expect the music to be more rockin' when appropriate. It would definitely be a nice change of pace from the overused chorus singing in Latin we see in too many games today. (True, FF has been doing that for a while, and they do it well. I just want to see other stuff too.)

Oh, I don't think the music in FFXI was boring in a musical way (for the most part), but just in the sense that most tracks really were quite short and replayed over and over. I loved the tracks for Whitegate and Nashmau for example, but they were still pretty repetitive.

I actually liked Sandoria's bagpipes too... for a little while.

Of course there were many zones with no music at all. Not really sure how crazy I am about that either.

FF6. I love this games soundtrack. The theme for each of the characters helps build the emotion in the game so superbly it really does tell half the characters story. It has such memorable music. Especially the operah house. I could rave about this games music for days.

Yes, I am looking forward to the soundtrack very much. I especially want to hear some nice piano pieces.

And I agree that it would be nice if the boss fights were more rock/metal than orchestral.

If XIV has a Collector's Edition, a soundtrack alone would sell me on it.

I LOVE the music Uematsu did in XI.
