Probably something that might of been brought up, but I could not find an actual topic on it so...

Do you think FFXI should keep it's system of having a lot of gear, even high end gear, buyable/tradeable in someway (weather it be material, or the item itself) or should it bind to you in some way.

in FFXI you have two types of gear. Normal gear you can pass around like a cheap *****, and Rare/ex gear that you are forced to hold onto like when you promised that girl you'd take her to the prom. While there would eventually be a pretty good amount of gear in FFXI higher up that was only gotten my HNMs and God monsters, it was not really enough. (quite honestly there were not enough bosses in FFXI)

in WoW you have Normal gear, bind on equip where you can pass the item around but once you marry it you need to keep it. And Bind on pick up. (Rare/ex in FFXI)

I'd like to hear some opinions

I think XI has a pretty good balance already on rare/ex and AH-able gear. More rare/ex stuff wouldn't hurt though, especially if RMT get their claws into the game. But a very large selection of AH-able gear supports the game economy, as well.

So, yeah. Pretty much the same balance XI had, give or take. (Although I'm sure crafters would enjoy much more worthwhile AH-able gear. Maybe crafting rare-ex gear would be an interesting fix?)

I'm not a fan of buy on equip. I don't think that system has ever been used in a Final Fantasy either. I hate getting a nice drop that I'd like to use, but may end up selling because I'm a cheap ******* and don't want it to bind to me.

I think ffxi had a good balance of rare/ex and sellable gear. I do agree that SE should of had more Hnms and i'm hoping ffxiv has more. I believe there should be a balance, all gear should not be sellable and all gear should not be rare/ex.

The only reason FFXI let you sell gear you have previously used is because most of the gear you get you make yourself (or someone makes it), hardly anything drops off mobs. This way the economy wasn't starving for gear. On the other hand in WoW mobs dropped gear left and right, you got gear from quests, you made mass quantities of gear to level your crafting and as such they made it so once you wore it you can't give it away. This way the economy wasn't flooded with mass amounts of gear.

I personally liked the fact that you could sell your old gear in FFXI but I also liked the wide variety of gear you could get in WoW. If somehow they find a middle ground between the two styles I'd be happy.

Gear should bind on equip, that way, there would never be an overload of crafted equipment, therefore making crafting more profitable since pieces of gear cannot be recycled and resold.

I'm hoping that SE makes more use of binding in FFXIV. Binding on pickup and/or equip levels the playing field to an extent and reduces the impact the game's economy has on developing your character(s). I don't think everything should be bound, but if the majority of gear can be cycled back into the economy it tends to put the best gear in the hands of the wealthiest players. Personally, I think that the extent to which a player involves themselves in the economy should be largely voluntary without having a significant impact on their ability to progress. If they want to accumulate wealth, there would be perks and rewards for doing so, but I don't think that feeling compelled to take time out to grind for currency at regular intervals throughout the leveling process should be something that is considered mandatory.

The only changed i'd like to see is that when equipping an item, it takes it out of your inventory and places it on yourself so to speak.

I'd rather add more NM's on a reasonable timer or / popped and having more choices of gear and keeping them sellable and using them as possible investments down the line rather than them becoming obsolete.
