Since hearing about and also seeing the various tit-bits of information on FFXIV all I want is to play the game right now! There is not a moment of my day that I don't sit and contemplate what the game might bring, and how much I'm looking forward to creating my character and starting again in the wonderful FF-verse!

I feel like I'm in limbo! The games I play now all feel so insignificant to the splender that will be FFXIV! Every time I try to emerse myself in LOTRO I fail because, it's not FFXIV. This character in the silly hat is not MY character. It is a weak substitute until she and I are reunited and begin our journey all over again!

I really really...CAN'T WAIT!

Eh, I have other games to play, and anime to watch. I'm especially driven to finish a few of them before XIII and XIV release, because after that I doubt they'll get much attention.

Clearly I'm pretty preoccupied with the game because I keep talking about it, but mostly because I have a fascination with game design. I'm wary of having too much faith in SE, although I think XIV will be much better than XI.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

I have tempered myself, personally. Truth be told I am more excited about STO than FF14 right now while I occupy myself with playing Street Fighter 4. You might want to try Aion (I played that for a few months), it was pretty good fun and was very pleasant to look at. Although I am not sure when the beta will end in America.

I also liked WAR a lot, have you tried that?

Yeah...

WL40 and WP35.

Its okay but not my cup of tea in all honesty. I like a game that can hold my attention and for that I need a good solid story and I just didn't get the same kind of grounding in WAR. I might be totally bias but FFXI for me felt like a second life. I had a home and friends and I even met my partner in the game.

We both left because a lot of our friends left and moved on and the game didn't feel right without them. Plus WAR was on the horizon and because it took so long to do anything, we figured we needed a more casual game. I started work and the other half was now in uni so our game time was limited and we couldn't contribute the hours FFXI needed. We came back breifly to it after a brief run on LOTRO and AoC but it looked so dated. Then WAR came out and we've been there for a while, now FFXIV has been announced I just have ichy feet again! LOL!

Anxious here also..very surprised at how many people have jumped back on FFXI since the announcement.

I know 3 people that have sold their accounts so far for over 500 bucks, and bought a PS3 with it, lol.

I'm totally Going crazy cause of the lack of information, and I've already run through 5/8 PS3 games I own at the moment. Good thing I have BlazBlue comming the end of this month along with a long list of anime and manga to watch/read. But for the love of the Unholy Gamming Gods SE give us some more info ; ;. Please? We're starting to die of speculation poisoning.

Ohhh, seems like the same story for me. Went from FF11 to WAR, which is a fun game but it just wasn't as... grounded as FF11. Left it some time ago (38 WH) and have been in limbo since.

I hope FF14 does keep battles and all around PvP like WAR... I loved it.

WAR was made primarily as a PvP RvR game (PvE and other elements were added much later as an after thought) - however I don't think they've pulled the RvR thing off just yet. Its fun, but its so unorganised with unclear objectives if you don't have someone there leading the way and directing forces other wise one persons actions count for very little in the grand scheme of things. I think that's what put me off in the end...

Not the lag (caused by over 200 players in the one area!)
Not the CTD (Caused by the 200 people in the one area)
Not the imbalance in AoE vrs Single target damage/heals (dont get me started...)

It was the fact that when it all came down to it, we were all basically cannon-fodder, winning or loosing depended mostly on who had the most people. You either win all the time, or loose all the time. Zerg zerg zerg!

FFXi for me has more class than that. The simple little cut scenes which dipicted your character talking to one of the NPCs involved in this quest or that mission... you were actually a part of the story. WAR has none and all it is? A point scoring battle. That gets really old after a while.

Thats what was fun about it! The fighting, when in RvR, was relentless, exciting, and tactical (depending on what class you played). I know you probably don't think it was overly "tactical" but I played a WH and SH - both could turn the tide of a battle (unless there were TOO many tanks) from thinking about what needed doing rather than zerging.

However, I do agree with you that the other elements were shallow at best. In fact, no other game has been so involving as FF11. But as nice as that is, there are times you want to do something that isn't so deep, exciting and ultimately self serving on a level that is for pure thrill rather than an item or gil. Balaista and such was just God aweful...

So again, this is why I hope they have something such as WAR (in that ONE aspect), fighting another person was actually like fighting another person. Holding turf actually meant something, and combat was just sweeeeetly aggressive.

WAR definitely did a few things right, but too many things were bleh to keep me addicted. For one thing, it's amazingly frustrating that a game that spent so long in beta and has been out almost a year can still have so many glitches and inconsistencies. I've seriously never seen such sloppy programming from a professional studio. Probably the biggest facet of WAR I really enjoyed was that the career archtypes were all extremely specialized. (eg. tanks were really awesome at tanking and necessary to really take down anything big) In contrast was WoW imo, where every class could do a little bit of everything.

Well, I'm almost in the same boat as you but I'm a bit pessimistic about ffxiv. I was excited when I saw the trailer but I wasn't very impressed with the actual ingame footage. Just the overall lack of detail got to me. You can obviously see the same exact character models from ffxi but with few modifications like mithra tail and no galka tail. I don't expect extreme major changes if the game is coming out next year, except minor enhancements and small additions. It might be just me though, and hopefully they didn't just recycle ffxi and throw some new graphics on it with a new battle system.

But then again, that can be footage shot from a year or 2 ago and it currently looks a lot better than what we saw. Regardless, I'm looking forward to it heavily and if it doesn't live up to the hype, hopefully blade & soul will.

As for what games to play until then, I suggest to import demon's souls. I'm having a good time playing this game and it's pretty challenging and boy do I love challenges. That was one of the best things about ffxi, the challenge was great. But yeah, sf4 and demon's souls ftw. Can't find any mmos worthy of playing after quitting ffxi, imo.

It could be that I watched the video through my phone but that kind of proves my point. And we never saw a goobue eating a mandragora which is interesting.

I'm not to worried that the FFXIV trailer shows a lot of similarities to FFXI design. In fact I'm quite relieved! Since leaving I've been looking for a better version of FFXI so far, FFXIV quite rightly (and hardly surprisingly) has done this.

When I'm playing a new game, the first thing I notice is how the characters move. It takes a loving hand to animate well. To capture every single movement, no matter how small and make it look and feel like you're really running through a grassy feild. As dated as FFXI the movement in every action performed by the characters is fluid, graceful and convincing!

Each time my girl swung her weapon, I could almost feel the arc of the swing and the impact in the final thrust. Every spell was started with utter concentration and at the moment of release, I could see that in her body language. I felt every bump in the road when she rode her Chocobo and I smiled when she would /laugh.

They poured everything into those simple movements, they'd be mad not to use them again because for me they were perfect.

I've watched other toons. In LOTRO the running would be more convincing if their upper bodies moved with the motion. So far its just the arms, and the legs and don't get me started on the horses. For one their feet seem to close together the further towards the hoof you look. It's very basic, there is no sadle, no bridle and no personality. I can literally see the places frames have been skipped to perhaps... I dunno how it works but, save space? Maybe they just got board of animating it.

WAR to, while it's not as bad as LOTRO. When you turn while mounted, its literally like you're on a turn table. It seems the only motion the horse is capable of is running and the few idle stances thrown in for good measure. (Yes I am aware Chocobos done this to, but the convincing way in which they moved over all more than made up for it. The Chocobo's blinking was more convincing than some other MMO's actual movement.)

WAR have something good to work with but it seems to me (and my BF has said this, which I happen to agree with) is they've got one of the BEST fantasy universes right there to play with...and they're doing nothing with it at all. Almost every piece of story is tied up in the rather boring Public Quests which you grind over and over again for Influence to then purchase Equipment. There's no progression of story here at all, no sense that you're getting anywhere. I agree, its mad fun in RvR but a MMO, for me, needs a lot more than mindless killing and depending on the time of day sometimes you couldn't even do that. Depending on circumstances, people work or school, the game was dead. You could walk into a Battle Objective take it with no resistence. Boring.

I do like WAR and I hope they at least look at the PvE side and realise they have a whole world of things they can do with that. It's not been out long at all, its still a new-born in the life of MMO. I wish it well. But FFXI held me for three years, so far, its the only game in history that's been able to do that to me, which is why I'm so excited about FFXIV!

I know what you're thinking, but don't do it.

If you freeze yourself you'll end up 500 years in the future, FFXIV will be long canceled, and you have to deal with a bunch of atheist otters. You have to be patient.

I know, because I'm you posting from the future.

I was relieved too but I was hoping for a bigger graphical and technical jump, more or so technical jump than graphics since I didn't see too much detail in the trailer. The only thing that was truly impressive was the leviathan.

Sure gameplay > graphics anyday but I guess i've been going to the gametrailers forum too much.

WoW you and I are on a very similair page here. I am also anxiously awaiting the release of sto! But I am also anxiously awaiting the launch of FFXIV they are gonna be my two next mmos. They both seem to be the only mmos on the horizon thats trying to really break from mmo tradition.

Oh.... and yea I'm hadokening up SF4 what... a great... game... I've waited around ten years for a new Street fighter and I must say capcom has not dissapointed with this new entry. I just hope they dont rekindle their old Sf habits.... as in launch a nearly identical game with 2 new characters in it and call it super street fighter 4 championship hyper fighting edition!

I was waiting for AION for about 2 years and pretty much lost interest all together when I heard about FFXIV.

I know it's still going to take a while until it gets out but, I’m just so exited about it that there is not much room left for excitement for another game.

Anyway I will still play AION but I was playing on the Chinese server and pretty much stopped as soon as I heard about FFXIV, and I am now playing FFVII.

I just hope that we won't get disappointed though.

Yeah, it's hard to enjoy anything else when you're excited about a game. :) I'm having a hard time trying to motivate myself to log on WoW after the XIV announcement, as your said, it feels so meaningless. So instead I'm trying to spend the time getting back in to some singleplayer games(finally bought a ps3!.) Also, me and a friend gave XI a try for the first time with the free trial, unfortunately we almost never had time to properly play it before the trial went out. :x

One tip I'd like to give you though, don't get too enthusiastic and certainly do not set your hopes too high -- high expectations in the MMO genre is baad...

Yeah - I've been disappointed three times now. First with AoC, then with LOTRO and now with WAR. I tried WoW for five minutes and just couldn't get into it. I think the thing each of those have in common is the quest system. Any random NPC will have a quest for you which you can complete to hand in for a Exp bonus. As tedious as FFXI leveling system was, I enjoyed the grinding. I made new friends every time I played because the requirement to party and there was some good banter half the time.

I think (for me anyway) the fact that a lot of the other MMO game play can be done mostly solo is a bit pointless. For an MMO anyway. But then you do need activities in an MMO which can appeal to a solo player and lets face it, there are times when you only want to play for a few minutes and commiting yourself to any group is not fair on them or you.

I hope FFXIV can strike up an interesting balance between the two.

I agree it's hard to get into anything when FFXIV is on the mind. I find it hard to log on to FFXI now... I can't wait to start fresh and be on the same playing field as the rest of the world and no one having a year or so head start over the rest like the japanese did with FFXI. Unless FFXIV is a flop I wont be returning to FFXI. Look forward to meeting everyone in FFXIV!

Id rather wait on Square to put out a finished polished game with good content then see a rushed bugged disaster at launch. I'll wait as long it takes for a quality game at launch.
