EU servers?Follow

As all people living in Europe who play/ed FFXI know, we got screwed over when it came to being able to participate on a level playing field with our US chums. The reasons for this are simple we have a small player base living in the wrong time zone.
Many were the times I had to stay awake until 6-8am to level, even later if I had wanted to get any of the CoP storyline done, things have improved on some servers I believe now server transfers are available.
EU servers in FFXIV would solve this, but I don't want EU servers as in WoW, I loved the feeling of playing on a global server, meeting people from all over the world, getting picked for JP parties who did things differently.
I have friends from FFXI in the US I want to stay in touch with and be able to explore the new FFXIV world with occasionally.
If I am stuck with the choice of "you are in the EU so you play on a EU server" that would be such a shame.

So I propose that all we need to do is get all the EU players together starting now so we can be on the same server/s
I would not want to be the only EU player on a predominatly JP server as has seemed the case for one guy I met online.
I do not want to be on a server that is "dead" between 4pm and 12am and therfore spend twice as long to get anything done as my US and JP counterparts.
What do you guys from the EU think, do you just want EU servers or what?

I agree with you completely. I myself and a few friends are from EU and would really love to play on a server that have a lot of EU players, that does not necessary mean that JP and NA are not welcomed, but to able to play on similar time zone with most of the players is a huge +. The majority of people that play have work, school and other commitment so they can’t play 24/7.

I disagree, I like the worldwide servers. I'm from the UK and haven't had a problem keeping up, at least caused by a timezone difference. A bunch of the EU players on the server banded together to form an EU linkshell and we're more than capable of holding our own against against any US or JP competition. As well as end game events we're also there to help each other out with other quests, missions or even just exp parties. You don't need to change the world system to get along in the game, you just need to befriend the right people.

Since all regions are getting FFXIV at the same time there should be a much more even spread of people than there were in FFXI, maybe that will help you form the alliances you seek.

As cool as it would be, as far as I'm aware most of WoWs EU servers dip down to like 200 or less early morning 3AMish, now say I just felt like playing late at night for a while, it would realllly suck

We are not saying that _everybody_ on the servers should be EU, just saying that people should at least get an idea how much EU/US/JP there will be. An ideal situation is 1:1:1 on each server, but I guess that’s really hard to balance.

Especially since the ratio of total players across all servers won't likely be 1:1:1

And with that, what do you guys think about SE letting us be able to see that ratio of players before deciding which server to join?

Well I know it's early on... but if you really want a lot of EU's togther why don't you wait till we have a release day... Then you can make a thread about an EU base server, that way all the EU's who want a EU heavy server (or atleats one with a lot on it) can orginize to get on the same one. Maybe pick one person on the thread who will log on first, then tell everyone else what server they are on? Just an idea, thats what my friends and I are gonna do so we can stay togther on the same server. =D

Yes thats good, and we can do that, but I want to get in early and try to get people to prevent SE implementing EU only servers, as I believe they are still undecided as to which way they will do things.
The more I think about it the more I dislike the idea of EU servers, hope we can prevent them.
Does anyone particularly want EU only servers?

As long as there are no HNM timers or anything else that would force an EUite to be awake at 3am I dont mind what there is server wise.

What I do want, is a server LOCATED in Europe though.

I like pretty much like the world system the way it is. sure it has it's problems. Maintenence is ALWAYS EU prime time. and can be tricky finding a linkshell for stuff on some servers. most ls seems to start events at the same time i typically log off for sleep. it's a pain yes i admit but i'm in some **** good linkshells that are sociable times for me.

the biggest thing that impacts the EU playerbase is the availability and publicity of the game here. (well the UK at least) there's no publicitiy for it its harder to find in the shops than its rivals like WOW and LOTR and as such alot of people dont know about it.

on the plus side though. EU ppl get some good advantages. Maintenance is ALWAYS EU primetime giving EU HNM a nice advantage. nm windows are reset thus when maintence finishes at 8pm the EU are usually the first one back on the servers and at camps.

I like the world system as it is and hope it doesnt change much for 14. I also hope 14 gets more EU publicity and press coverage that itself could dramatically increase the EU playerbase. maybe even get the guys who made this to do the publicity. i've gotten 5 or 6 of my friends hooked on ff just sending that to them lol :D
