Just want to comment on a few things here:
#1 as the OP.. No, the OP isn't someone who has never played WOW, I currently am running my guild through naxx over and over again just so they get geared enough to play through Ulduar. Which is a pain in the *** because everyone keeps switching servers because we happen to be Horde on a server that has one of the lowest Horde populations and lowest Horde progress. I am pretty sure this is an aspect of WoW that is almost as broken as the 'lockout period' that happens if you try to enter and reset a raid 5 times or more..... yeah farming for AQ mounts without having feign death is a crap shoot now.
#2 I play WoW, but FFXI was my first love, and I still think it was my favorite MMO when it came to content that spanned more than just endgame and waiting for the next endgame to come around. In FFXI you could go pick a new job and still have the enjoyment you had when you were level 1 without having to switch characters.
#3 My point in making the thread title 'WoW is too easy' was to point out the flaws in many other MMOs that would not work with the things that made FFXI unique. Can you really blame me for picking the most popular MMO in the world (one that the developers themselves said would be an influence in FFXIV) as the main focus?
#4 I really don't know why I am numbering these, but it makes it more coherent I think. Well.. not anymore I guess.
#5 In my post saying WoW was too easy, I didn't point out that the game itself was devoid of difficulty as so many took it. If they had read the post they would have realized that my statement was aimed at how the mechanics of WoW (and indeed most MMOs, but WoW is of course the standard bearer) would make a game where a single character system entirely too easy and unrewarding.
#6 My post was also a condemnation of the multiple character system in a MMO. Personal opinion, but I preferred the FFXI model where your character was your presence in the online world, and your actions would actually follow you around. So that you can't just be a nice guildie on one character, and the ninja loot ***** on another. Again, personal opinion, and... I bet if you disagree you are an online *******. (Personal opinion) (also for humor) (Personal opinion)
So 2% of all WoW players actually get to experience the REAL GAME, the ENDGAME... provided they know enough well geared players and have a guild on the right server that isn't unbalanced that actually wants to play the Endgame. The rest get to play through quests and do w/e to have fun.
I am betting far more than 2% really want to be at the cusp of the game and playing through it, but get frustrated by looking for a group and trying to get the epics they need to join in the fun.... to a degree that was far worse than FFXI ever had. I like being able to go back and really enjoy old content that I missed...
#7 Why did I post about WoW? Because it is the most popular **** game in the world, and it happens to be the model that any smart business would want to topple and/or mimic. Every other post on this entire site is about comparing WoW to what could be in FFXIV. (another made up statistic there)
"Quote it correctly or don't quote it. That's called "how people get banned"..."
Actually it's called "Libel"... and only if it is fabricated, but hey, you are the admin.
