I'd go as far to say that WoW is pretty disliked outside of any game forum that is not WoW. Even people who played it will probably agree to the fact it "could of been better" or something like that.

I'd say that applies to most every MMO, wouldn't you?

Now that said, I hate WoW. It has a terrible community, a horrible art style, just plain ugly graphics, and I can't stand point and click interface.

The community is almost identicial to FFXI in it's makeup. The problem is, there are simply too many universal channels to speak through, allowing the trolls to sorta gravitate towards each other into some sorta superdense trolling entity. Like a trolling black hole, except unfortunately, the trolling escapes it. Just mute universal channels, and voila.

I guess you aren't a fan of American action cartoons and comic art? To each their own, it's just another art style. I'm not a huge fan of the art genre either. But I recognize it's merits, and the very high skill level that Blizzard's artists have that rival the best in the field of videogame art.

I'm confused how you can say it has ugly graphics though; the graphics in WoW utterly destroy FFXI's graphics (albiet on the cartoony side, not on the realistic side). More of an age issue as opposed to an artist skill issue though.

And it's a good thing that Blizzard doesn't use a point and click interface; it uses a hotkey interface! Isn't misrepresentation awesome?

EDIT: This is what really annoys me. People who insult a game based on aspects that aren't even a part of the game. If you hate a game, that's fine. There are lots of legitimate critisisms of Wow, and I've seen some people say legitimate complaints. But most of the time, people are ******** about WoW doing exactly what it's supposed to do.

What bugs me most is that a lot of times someone says something like "I hate aspect xxx in WoW and that's why FFXI is better" eventhough aspect xxx is even worse in FFXI but not discussed.

Ive played both FFXI and WoW and i can say alot of things people whine about is purely based on personal taste however both games have things that could use ALOT of improvement theres no difference in that between WoW or FFXI.
So pretty much every1 needs to stop with the FFXI is better or WoW is better bullcrap.. its all about taste.
Personally i like FFXI better while others like WoW better, to each his own.
We should be able to adress cons of both of the games without people starting to ***** around and instead think of ways how it could be done better.

'd go as far to say that WoW is pretty disliked outside of any game forum that is not WoW. Even people who played it will probably agree to the fact it "could of been better" or something like that. There is an undeniable anti-WoW vibe here in a lot of topics. I also see a lot of "I like the way FFXI did this" type posts, even if half the community disagrees with it, it's not met with the hostility a topic that uses a WoW mechanic might meet.

I also see a LOT of "will FFXIV have an armory" or "Will there be durability" posts. A LOT of players liked the ways certain things were done in WoW.

We ALL have issues with other MMOs, or we wouldn't entertain the thought of moving on to this one, that is nature.

I don't care if the reason you hate WoW/FFXI has to do with gameplay, the community, jealousy, logical or illogical reasons. This isn't a forum for those games. We can discuss them in terms of FFXIV (like, as aboce, the question of the armory). But, there shouldn't be any posts here that don't.

And, as a player that did enjoy WoW for several years, I have not noticed much anti-WoW sentiment here. I've noticed SOME, sure. And some anti-XI feelings. But I really think a lot of people are seeing more of each based on their own feelings. Which is normal, and I'm not blaming anyone for it. I hate Miley Cyrus. I notice a LOT more of her music on the radio as a result. That doesn't mean she is played more (especially where that goddamned Halo song is concerned). I just react more strongly to it, and thus it gives a greater impression.

I think SE has the power, ability and resources to make a game that takes the best features of existing MMOs, mix them in with their own new concepts and give us a game that resembles none of them, even if many of the components are similar.

(Like, for example, how the talent trees in WoW came from DIILoD but felt nothing like it).

That is what I'm gonna put my hope in. Along the way, I'll try and see the pros and cons of all systems, so as to try and figure out my opinion of what is best. I may be wrong, I may be right. But that is why this is a General DISCUSSION forum.

Maybe, but it applies the most to WoW by far. Most Korean MMOs are fairly similar. Most fan groups of one of the good games they make will probably not have a lot of bashing of another one. The Rising Force community (or lack thereof since the game is no longer with us) is most likely pretty kind to the Cabal or Perfect World community.

However, they are probably more hostile to WoW. I remember I was playing FFXI when WoW came out and a huge "Don't fall to the dark side" type of thing swept over the game. It had an instant effect unlike any other game that came out. Granted there has not been too many MMOs with big tags to hit during the time, but the difference in the effects of the game compared to others even before the launch were obvious.

Think of the hearthstone topic. It got to the warp cudgel everyone was like "that's a pretty good idea" when in reality it's virtually the same thing as the hearthstone. However, before that a lot of people were bashing the idea of "A free warp".

I've seen quite a few posts saying how they were impressed with Aion and everything. Some negative ones too, but a lot of them claim "It's too much like WoW". Granted FFXI is a unique game and unlike every other MMO, but unique is not always good.
