Windowed mode/dual screen supportFollow

This was a major issue for me with FFXI - and I'd like to take the opportunity to say on PC I am dead against a ban on windowed mode. It was a silly so-called security precaution that simply annoyed the crap out of most of the players, and forced many to download apps that violated the T&C of the game so they could claim back their PCs ability to multitask.

A PC is a multitasking machine, it's designed not just to play games, but so you can browse the web and check your emails, chat to friends, put music on, all sorts. I think it unfair that SE limited those abilities while playing FFXI and I hope they see sense and allow windowed mode in FFXIV.

Additionally I'd love to see multiscreen support, in two modes - one where the game runs in one screen and your normal desktop occupies another, a second where you can have an in-game 'canvas' on the second screen to put UI elements, quest logs, notes, maps etc. I think someone else mentioned this on here a while ago and I think it'd be a pretty unique feature that'd really clear up the screen on the gameplay window (assuming it's totally customizeable and you can leave original elements on the first screen if you so wish).

They especially need to allow PC windowed mode if we are still going to have to look things up as frequently. I know people who actually went out and bought laptops and such just to be able to look things up while playing. Madness, I say.

FFXI has official windowed mode.. so there's no way FFXIV won't have one >_>

We really want to compete against World of Warcraft and for example the new Star Wars MMO.

Does it? I don't know, last time I played it on PC alt-tabbing or otherwise taking the focus off FFXI killed it and you had to download a windower, which of course was considered cheating and got your *** banned. I've been playing with 360 this time instead and using my laptop to look stuff up.

I was thinking this may have console users with no laptop at a disadvantage but then just remembered PS3's got a web browser dosen't it? They should also allow that to be used without logging out, just for convenience. I'm yet to hear of an MMO that didn't at some point involve looking something up online.

It has a "windowed mode" but you still can't minimize it. It was kind of a "***** you" from SE in response to their player bases constant requests for a windowed mode.

The ironic part, is that PS2 users didn't have to give up access to the internet in order to play, unlike PC users.

Yeah, after something like five years of complaining they finally added support. I really hope we don't have to go through that all again. There were a number of things, really basic common sense things, that SE had to be dragged kicking and screaming to change. Another was auto inventory sort.

But I don't see any reason they'd go back now. I'm pretty optimistic (though I wouldn't count on dual screen support).

I'm pretty sure auto-inventory sort was in the game right off the bat, as I played during that time, was it not?

You had to hit the autosort button, people are lazy.
