Who else feels this way? Even a small trickle of information from SE would be as filling as a feast. Job info, mob info, anything... I'm sick of all this baseless speculation =/ When is TGS ?

How is this shocking? This is the same company that gives half *** update details for FFXI. I wouldn't be surprised if beta testers provide more information about FFXIV than SE does with their newsletters and interviews. They could have given more info at E3, but they continue to remain secretive with their games. It'll be a very long year for you folks if you think SE is gonna provide all the info you want.

Yeah, I've progressed from having dreams about participating in the beta to seeing news stories on the front page of Zam with new information and screenshots.

Unfortunately, I think SE is going to hold off on any major info until FF13 is released. And seeing as I don't own a PS3, I don't really give a **** about it. Once 13 is released then SE can start giving the media info for 14.

That said, I've been passing the time playing single player RPGs. I just beat Mass Effect, working on FFIX now. I'm cautiously optimistic about FF14. I waited with bated breath for Warhammer Online for two years and look how that turned out.

If ffxiv, is scheduled for release in 2010, and ff13 is suppose to come out june of 2010, then they have to give details way before then. Don't forget they said they wanted a longer beta time (so probally what 6-8months? long), plus details come out before beta. So there is no way they wont give details before ff13 is released, unless ffxiv gets pushed back a long while.

They announced next year...doesn't mean it's 100%.

Also, FFXIII is coming out in the spring, they don't want XIV to impact XIII sales at all so they'll release XIV towards the the later fall.

Beta probably won't start until the end of the year thus announcing it @ TGS is fine.

I want more info too, but SE isn't doing anything horrible by announcing the game @ E3 and then waiting until TGS...the game is over a year from releasing at least.

What do you guys really want?

A) Lots of info about things not yet implemented, that may or may not even make it to the real game or are severely adjusted from what the dev's envisioned due to lack of time or money

or

B) Info only about things that are sure to be in the game at start, without exaggerations

If it's B that you want, you'll have to get used to not getting any if at all info before close to release date. If it's A, the game will end up as a disappointment with all the 'broken promises' and hype.

I'd love to have concrete facts about the game, but there is nothing I can do to speed up the process.

I enjoy discussing game design, but I don't care much for the speculation. Still you have information starved fans who have nothing else to go on. So speculation is the best we can expect and the best we can get. A pea is a a feast for the hungry.

I kid you not. I just had a dream that I was sent a demo of FFXIV by SE, along with a few other select speculators. I started it up, watched the trailer we've already seen and then was transported into a fight, completely on the edge of my seat. I was thinking to myself, "the boards are finally going to be teeming with valuable information."

Unfortunately, my brain wasn't creative enough to produce anything more than a copy of the FFXIII tech demo fight scenes I was just watching a few days ago with those characters replaced by my FFXI one >_<.

Thus this game wasn't announced any sooner. I really wish the announcement was closer to the release date or the beta date. Because the wait and the speculation is killing me. I just want to know more and I'll be happy to move on in excitement.

Concrete info would be nice, newer screen shots or video of areas and characters, gameplay and user interface info at the bare minimum. Shoot, I still watch the Rapture video from time to time.

September's TGS is near three months away from now, so all we can do is bide our time with other activities.

Also, not trying to be negative, but game companies have a tendency of delaying stuff too. FFXIV may not even be out next year at all, but on the bright side we will have the beta to tide us all over until then.

In general, beta testers DO give far more info about the game than the company. This is true of every beta I have seen.

They write the guides. They give info to websites (or the authors are in the beta themselves). They report what works well and what doesn't. They label the maps with details, etc.

All most companies do is give you the story and basic game play info. Everything else comes from players.

And, honestly, I like it that way. Players tend to try more things. They are the ones that number crunch and report back. You know what you are getting from player data. And, it leaves things to evolve, letting the game move forward between updates.

This is SE we are talking about.
Every FF game I can remember they have done the same..... just released a few lines of info with long delays between each. We hate it because we love the games, but as you can tell from the amount of speculation on these boards, it drives us to fever pitch with excitement.
They must sit in the office reading it all, laughing their heads off.

At least this time it is worldwide release. We always get shafted in europe as they have to translate into several languages. Every FF game over here has been delayed for that.

Long as they've been working on this alongside XI, progress really shouldn't be in a bare bones phase. Things have been set in stone, just fine tuning stuff like the power of job abilities and such should be what they stuck on along with aesthetics like music or environmental animations.

Off the top of my head, a few things they should be able to tell us about:
1) Jobs.
2) What did they mean about the weapon stuff?
3) How many equipment slots will be working with?
4) Will we be looking at inventory issues similar to XI?
5) Will there be emphasis on instancing or world spawns?
6) What kind of crafts will be available?
7) Will Linkshells (or their equivalent) be more than glorified chat rooms?
8) Anything about the UI? (And please let keyboard only play be an option~)
9) Possible bundle pricing for XI and XIV subscriptions?

Just off the top of my head, really, and a lot of those can be milked with daily tidbits. "Today we introduce the Warrior class, and here are a few things they can learn..." "Do you love entertaining your friends with good food? Well, Cooking might be for you!" So on, blah blah, is it next year yet?

Remember, the question isn't always whether or not they CAN release info, it is WHEN they'll release it for the greatest effect.

I mean, do they give us everything now, so we can discuss it to death and wait a year before we actually get to see what happens. They'll lose interest over the way.

All they did was give us a few interviews worth of stuff and we have a discussion forum here full of topics. I think there is a certain kind of genius behind what they are doing. Because us wanting more is EXACTLY what they want to happen.

I wouldn't be so sure about it... they don't even know what to do with chocobos, only that they won't be the mounts this time around!

edit: and also, the above post. If info is released too early, players will overhype themselves to think that those features will be teh best things evar and will be available at start.. the devs might not know what kind of things they can include at the start of the game yet.

Show me the lvl of character creation we are gonna be offered and I will be happy. I can be patient for gameplay, story, view of the world. I just want to know that the bar on character creation is set high enough so I won't be running into my look-a-like every 2-3 minutes.

What irks me is that they released a website, and haven't updated it in about a month now.

How hard is it to pop like 2 Screenshots every week? I'm sure it won't make the game interally implode...

That's how SE works. The game wouldn't implode, but they still won't be releasing anything before Gamescom/TGS, lol.

Not even a newsletter yet. But yea I expect this from Square how tight lipped have they been about 13? I mean we still know very little about that game and thats due out sooner then 14. We have a long wait before they tell us much. I wouldnt be surprised if we dont get anything more about 14 until 13 is out....

Its actually really easy to understand why they do it this way these days. Just have to look at their history. They have dramatically changed their practice for promoting games on two different occurences...

1. The merger of Squaresoft and Enix and the change to next-gen consoles (before than they would announce a game and have it come out 6-8 months later, thus they could give out info fairly quickly in trickles without having the side affect of overhyping a release). problem is since than their internal development production costs have sky rocketed and games take longer to come out. To combat this they announce a string of games each year that are coming out in the near/far future, they also gave a trickle of info out as time went along, like you wanted, until they hit occurence #2...

2. The huge delay of FFXII from internal management and development issues. They announced FFXII several years before it ended up releasing and still did the trickle out method... consequently they ended up giving away ALL the info the game before it ever released and than there was the major set back garnered by fans who were expecting something more than they showed off.

Because of both these occurences they now announce games well ahead of time, but don't release much info at all on the games till a couple of months before the games release, and maybe a little trickle here and there at game conferences. Blame those two occurences for their PR move on FFXIII games and likely FFXIV. From a PR standpoint it makes sense, keeps us hyped up because we don't know anything about the production other than its 'potential' and they can shower us with info right before the release to really accelerate our hype during the time its neccesary (right before buying the game). It sucks from a fan perspective but it works nicely in the end for them. And thats all they really care about after all.
