Is FFXIV going to be FFXI Lite?Follow

Hey,

With all the moaning I saw over the last few years in XI (CoP was to hard, lvl to 75 takes to long, End game drops to difficult to get, etc, etc), and with the limited amount of info given by the FFXIV Devs do you think that the depth of FFXI will be scaled back to make it more new player friendly experience and a game for the less hardcore. If this happens do you think it wil be a good or a bad thing?

I for one would not like to see a FFXI lite, or a game that I find it so much easier to get everything I want. When I look back at my FFXI experience I remember complaining that it took so long to get anywhere, but when I did finally complete everything I wanted and got all those drops I desperately wanted I found that I lost interest in the game.... whats the point in playing when you have everything you needed and completed all the quests/storylines?

I also find that in returning with the same races and with a stated intent to make the game more accessible that SE are going to release an MMO that will have my attention for maybe a few months and after that I will not have a reason to continue playing..... So I say make it hard, add in the time sinks, id rather spend 4 years playing a game that I really enjoy but find myself complaining that progress is so slow than getting everything I want easily and playing it for 6 months.

What do all of you think? Are we going to end up with FFXI lite and if we did would that be a good or a bad thing?

I'll be playing the game by their rules. If it's FFXI-lite, I'll play it as such. I think I can balance my progression to last me for at least a year 'till I hit the cap. I also might 'artificially' lengthen it by leveling many jobs at once, and once they get high enough I'll make my decision as to what I want to take to the cap first.

I only leveled 3 jobs to 75 in FFXI. I've been thinking about taking 5+ this time instead depending on the number of the jobs.. FFXI's hardcore nature stopped me from achieving this, this time things might be different. Maybe even maat's cap? Who knows... ;)

EDIT: It could be... it's PvE oriented and has job system similar to FFXI in it. Those already make it seem like FFXI to me, even though everything else might be different.

Hey Hyan,

Its Azh, good to see your still playing XI. I would come in game to say hi but I deleted my content I.D. a while back and I don't think I could get it back until they have one of those adventure appreciation campaigns again.

Anyways in case I never make it back in game, I hope to see you in FFXIV although if its all "hit cap in a week" then I might not go down that road despite what you might say I think if its too lite or easy then I will get bored pretty darn fast.

If by "depth of FFXI" you mean "time wasted bored to tears waiting to experience the depth of FFXI" yes, I think they're going to scale back the unproductive time sinks. I think they realize that they have no choice but to do so if they want FFXIV to be a success. They can work whatever magic they have in store for FFXIV however they see fit, and I do not in any way expect that they will be able to fully eliminate the wait for/occasional difficulty in finding groups for group content.

I do, however, expect that the game will be presented in such a way that you have a great many other things you can do to progress your character so that if it takes you even a week to find a group for that next mission/group quest/whatever, you're still happily occupied and feeling like your monthly fees are being put to good use.

Oh wow haha, hey man. I actually quit the game a week ago, so yeah we'll see in XIV I hope.

I'll be on Fairy again if possible.

I certainly hope it doesn't take just a week to make it to the level cap @_@ since I'm planning to play it as long as XI...

I doubt it'll take as long as XI did though. Lots of that time was used lfping or doing nothing.. don't think SE will take the same approach this time :D.

I don't think that everything will necessarily be easier to get...

This is what I think a good possibility is.

the general theme "in terms of this discussion" will be you WILL get what you work for instead of xi's you MIGHT get what you work for.

Lets face it... i know people getting uber hard drops in xi w/ like a 1/3 ratio... i know others that get 0/25 on same mob/item.

you can't possibly say that someone getting 1/3 puts in the same amount of work as someone getting 0/25. it is really unfair to someone getting 0/25 because apparently he is just... unlucky.

In ffXIV things will be harder but things such as raredrops will be 95% if not 100% drop rate, the catch is you have to actually pull it off... placing more on skill and less on chance. this is just what I think.

or maybe in order to get the rare drop you have to kill an NM 4 times... but on the 4th you WILL get the drop. who knows, either way i think the game itself will be more difficult, but a lot more rewarding in both the player's gratification and also in game gil/items

I hope that's the case, but SE is all about the cryptic + random. Maybe it's a cultural thing or just a corporate quirk, but I'd be surprised if things in FFXIV were as straightforward as they are in most other MMOs. I'd prefer to have less of a random component to the game (for both drops as well as boss mechanics), but I'm not holding my breath.
