I think I can swing a week pretty easily. The real question is, do I take off the first week that it's out or do I take off the SECOND week it's out, so I don't have half my week taken up with the server issues common in new MMOs? What to do? Luckily, I've got more than a year to mull this over.

You call in sick like any other person out there...that way after day 2 and the servers are still down - you can go back to work and just call it a 48hour bug thing....if after day 5 and the servers are up - call it swine flu - some companies are telling people to stay off for 10 days if a family member has it!

Win!
and err... Profit?

I'll take a day off for sure. Probably after the initial rush. I may have to spend a day upgrading my computer too!

Ill save my time off for something a little more important then an MMO launch. Dont get me wrong im excited about this but i can think of better things to do with my saved off time.

I will take 0 time off. I will have plenty of time after work to get the new addiction to this game rolling.

Call in sick the day it comes out. Hopefully they have a set release date a few months before it comes out, then I'll take a week off for the 2nd or 3rd week it's out. The first week will probably be constant disconnects. Having 5 weeks of vacation in a year is awesome.

I agree, one week off is nothing when you can still take about a month the rest of the year.

Be careful though, FF games are always delayed. Book time off as close as possible to release day.
I get 10.5 weeks a year so can easily spare a couple :)

None, unfortunately.

If I had available vacation time or personal time, this is when I would be using it.

Unfortunately, I do not. I am a Temp worker. Even though I have the same responsibilities and, well, everything else as the other employees here, I am not considered a "full time employee" despite working 40 hour weeks.

The reason is that THIS department doesn't have the money to pay me, so it has to come from somewhere else. So I work for the department and do the same stuff everyone else does but I get absolutely zero benefits.

Everyone else gets great insurance, tons of time off, paid holidays...etc. I get nothing.

I've already had to renew my temp service once, and I'll probably have to do it again because even though they need me to work here, they can't afford to give me benefits.

If anything I'll be working more the days after it comes out, because everyone else will be taking their time off then, so I'll have to cover for them...

Yea, it sucks.

I think I might invest time in playing it alot when I can but not to the extent of missing work, prolly only when I do not have my son (when his mother has visitation), not working, hanging out with my friends, and stuff. I love playing games that require hardcore players to invest time..only thing is that I will progress slower but in the end, I feel I didn't waste my time. =)

If I had a job, and was planning to play FFXIV I would Take the day off, wake up early and go buy the game and then install the game.

However, I would not take a week off.
When FFXIV comes out there will be THOUSANDS of people installing it and getting on the servers. If they hold, awesome. If not, then there will be some crashes...
And a new game, even thow tested to try and stop it from happening, will have bugs.
Bugs mean that there will be patches and updates.

The 1st few weeks of this (if SE does it "right") means people won't really be playing, or playing much.

The last big MMO I played was WoW. I'm on extended "away" time. But when the newest x-pack came out, I was lucky if I could even log in, and every week there seemed to be a new patch to download and install.

. . .And a month later, I was still lucky if I could log in (I play on one of the packed realms).

I would wait a few weeks, then take a some days off from work when you could then really get some game time in. And by then, all the crack head players will have found out how to "do things", posted info online..and be KOed due to no sleep, and there won't be as much lag.

I'll almost certainly take off some time around the release of the game to really get a feel for the game. After all, this is a game I've been literally waiting years to get started on. But I won't be taking time off right at launch, and it won't likely be a week. More likely I'll extend a weekend by a couple days after things have settled down and I can coordinate with old friends I hope will rejoin me from XI.

I won't be taking any time off, hopefully by then I will have a full time job, but I have plenty of free time after work and on days off to play. I see work as more important like a few others on here nyaha.

Not planning on taking any time off expressly for XIV... the game won't be going anywhere anytime soon once things get rolling. Once I get rolling, I might take off a Friday or Monday here and there to just sit around in my underwear drinking coffee and playing XIV all day though.

Not planning any big break from work early on though.

I don't have that luxory lol

My mom is terminally ill with cancer and I'm her full time care :)

What's sweet though is she knows how much I loved FFXI, she's going to buy me FFXIV when it comes out. So I hope I'll be showing her how it works ^.^

That's sweet.

Hopefully you can get hold of two copies and spend some time together enjoying the game...

0, though SE had a pretty seamless NA launch, I have come to trust there will be issues for the first few days. I might take a day or two in the second week.

I can take a month off work just about anytime I want. Even better, I work a full-time job which requires me to be there 6 months per year. Wait, is that better or..
