Just got an email from square enix, I know it doesn't say much, but there's very little official info as it is, and this could be means to speculate a little more;

In future we can perhaps refer to this if someone else tries another Beta fake too?

Also, this little blurb is written about the game
Quote:
Eorzea... A vast realm beloved by the Gods since time emmemorial. All save its name stands lost to the ages. Now, as a menacing shadow is cast over the land heroes must once again take up an epic call to arms

Anyways, the description there gives us a little idea of what the game is about, unlike anything else before.
It gives me the impression that Eorzea is actually like the "holy land" in the bigger world, and someone else is trying to steal this essence...

Thoughts and Speculations?

Sounds like pretty generic flavor text.

Yeah. And believe me, the German version of it sounds even dumber than the English one. Just generic "hi-ho, dark shadow, ancient land, mickey mouse and knights in shining armour stuff". Sorry, SE. You didn't have to send me that email to remind me there is a trailer I've seen about 20 times now.

P.S.: Why should all but it's name be missing since time immemorial, if it is the very continent we are all playing on? Does it mean all PCs mystically forgot the name of the place they live in, or rather that all PCs originally came from another continent? Is there something I am missing?

Like Ditx said, it's possible that this is some sort of "Holy Land" and what they mean is that everything outside of Eorzea has forgotten everything about it except the name.

Sort of like Atlantis, El Dorado, Valhalla, or a similar real world mythological place.

For some reason I've had the impression that Eorzea would be largely unexplored. That our characters would be new to the land and seeing it for the first time.

I'm guessing Eorzea is a type of... Don't know if it will be end game zone? But it will be some kind of special place, maybe with special monsters and magics and stories to beheld. I imagine the cities, main area's, etc might not be in Eorzea. But this is just complete speculation on my part, and I base it on nothing more than imagination from what SE has said. Kind of a neat thought though, right?

Just got this in Italian, this is what it says:

"Eorzea.. a powerful ancient realm, beloved by the Gods but fallen into oblivion. Now, with the threatening of an obscure menace, heroes must once again answer to an epic call to arms.
It is the dawn of a new world and new legends."

Not much different from the original english one, meh.

Oh no! Don't you see?

FFXIV isn't going to be a WoW clone. It's going to be an Oblivion clone!

*horror*

Only the chosen may receive. Eorzea is a holy land, a place once forgotten, only the chosen few will find its hidden discoveries.

Ok speculation time...

Quote:
A vast realm beloved by the gods since time immemorial.

So a vast realm would probably mean this is a/the major continent on the planet. Being beloved by the gods suggests that Eorzea is a place with abundance and general peace. So perhaps other areas have climate/monster/beastmen problems being that they are not blessed?

Quote:
All save its name stands lost to the ages.

This would suggest that the world's inhabitants have forgotten much about this place. We've seen something like this before in FFT. Remember the airship and gun explanation in FFT?

MUSTADIO: Know why my friends and I are called "mechanics"?

[Ramza shakes his head.]

AGRIAS: It's said that a lost civilization lays hidden under the city of
Goug... In St. Ajora's days, countless airships sailed the skies and
fantastic machines walked the streets of men. But time passed, technology was
lost, thus none know whether such wondrous things ever existed.

MUSTADIO: But they must have! Hundreds of airships and exotic machines have
been excavated from under Goug. We mechanics do our best to restore these
legacies from Ajora's time.

So perhaps the people were advanced with a working knowledge of machinery but civilization collapsed, plunging things into a midevil-esque situation where the people attempt to operate and recreate old technology.

Just some speculation. Your thoughts?

The email was sent because I'm signed up to Square enix's mailing list I believe.
I get one everytime a new game comes out, and then a monthly one, which frankly I'm pretty sure it written by a 10 year old...or someone who was very high

See this
