What makes you..Follow

Okay, so this may not be exactly FFXIV content-related but it is kind of related due to the FF content. My question is what makes you a Final Fantasy Fan? What keeps you coming back for more? What makes you love it so much? Take the title away from every FF game, and just be left with the game content.

It's a videogame.

I play a lot of videogames.

I'm not sure why I continue to play them, I haven't enjoyed but a handful of them, and most of the time I am left with a disappointed taste in my mouth, when I think back to better RPGs I've played in the past like Golden Sun.

=D True. For some reason, I think FF games are like a much more fine 'food dish' in a diner among some of the other video games ("food"). Lol. It's a weird way to put it, but kinda goes with what you said. Golden Sun.. Hmm, I am about to go start playing it again! I thought Mia and Garet was cool. (Going off-topic..) I hope FFXIV will provide a good exp. When there is nothing else, you can still hope.

Yeah I know, the DS sequel is coming out soon, can't wait for it.

Also. Garet was freaking useless. He was subpar in like every possible way D:

Lowest attack, lowest mana, lowest agility, weakest magic. I think the only stat he excelled in was HP.

Great, just what I need, a tank in a single player RPG... *eyeroll*

EDIT: That reminds me what Golden Sun got right. Magic was the strongest attacks in the game, from the beginning to the end. "Attack" was only used when you wanted to conserve mana. I always hated that about Final Fantasy games. You spam "Attack" from the first enemy in the tutorial, all the way to the last boss. The only reason to use magic is if there was some gimmick enemy that was designed to be killed by magic; any other time, melee is superior to mages.

For me, it's the memorable characters and plot twists that keep me hooked, as well as getting the player emotionally evolved in the story. SE has very good characters, who each evolve in their own unique way throughout the game. They make it very easy to sympathize with them. Who can honestly say they didn't get emotional during FFX, when it was revealed what will happen to Yuna?

Oh, and the music is beautiful as well. =P

If we take away the "Final Fantasy" in the name, and just went with game content. . .
Most of the game's have a great story line. And a great story line is a must for an RPG.
It also has a Job/Class system that has almost made other games follow in foot.

I also like the game's use of the element table.

I play FF games because they capture my imagination. The Worlds, characters, and adventures are fantastic and you find yourself easily immersed into them.

I'm a sucker for a good story (especially fantasy-esque), and I'm more into role-playing games than any other type (strategy is a runner-up). The FF series has consistently produced satisfactory material (although I didn't get too crazy about FFXII... then again, I'm only about 50% of the way through...).

And yes, the music enhances the whole experience (except XII). Half of the songs I play/learn on the piano are FF tunes... for a very good reason... they're effing awesome.

I think the fact that I own nearly every Final Fantasy game (including remakes/ports) and have figures of characters from the game all over my computer desk sorta makes me a fan ...

...

o_o;

I can't say I'm a fan of every FF game. Some I feel were sub-par while others were pretty good, but in a series this long not every one can be a winner, right?

I feel the familiarity of it all keeps me coming back. Moogles, chocobos, crystals, summons/aeons/espers/whatever-flavour-of-the-day, dipping into real-world mythos. Just because it's (usually) a new world every time doesn't stop all the familiar aspects from being there.

I'm very much someone who enjoys familiarity. I'm not much of a fan of change. Though there is a lot of change between FF games, there's also a lot that stays the same, which is what I enjoy.

What makes you love it so much? Take the title away from every FF game, and just be left with the game content.

Remove Mario from the title, and how many people would have played Super Mario RPG? Remove Sonic from the title and about 3/4ths of the recent releases wouldn't have even been considered. Remove Warcraft from the title, and do you really think WoW would have found it's starting player base? Remove the Star Wars from Phantom Menace, and do you think it would be made?

All that said. FF on NES was one of my favorite games on the NES. FFII(US) was my first favorite game on the SNES. FFIII(US) was perhaps my favorite game of all time. FFVII was a great game on the PS1. FFX was a favorite on the PS2, and because my roomate at the time (and still my best friend) was introduced to FF at the same time with it, and we shared the experience, it became one of my favorites.

Take the Final Fantasy out of any of those titles, and they might not have been produced, or I might not have bought them. But if they had been produced, and I had bought them, they would still stand as some of my favorite games of all time.

Without Final Fantasy as a brand, the RPG game industry would be drastically different, if it would even continue to exist at all. (this has to do with the history of RPGs, not a bias towards FF).

Why do I love it? Well, I don't, I love particular games in the series, but the brand gives me that seal of approval that it might be a game I love. Just like seeing 'Sonic' on a game nowadays makes me think I probably shouldn't try it out.

I sold my soul to SE long ago, and they don't do refunds... believe me I tried.

No really...

I like the story lines in the game, and I actually feel for the characters. Also the graphics are usually very good for the time of release, plus it's a series that I can look at and go 'I really enjoyed the others'. I can't say I've liked all of them as much as others, but I've liked most and FF8 is my favorite. Go Go FF8! XD
