What would you like to see in 14?Follow

#1 Jul 16 2009 at 7:51 PM Rating: Good
I got to thinking about FF14 and things I hope it will have. I used to play EQ2 a while ago and one of the things that it had that I hadn't really seen anywhere else was NPC's with voice. Almost all of them, even the insignificant ones had voice as well as regular text. It felt a little more immersing as far as the quests/stories/etc went, and it was also nice to give your eyes the occasional break.

What types of things is everyone else hoping for?

Oh and I suppose a built in ability to alt-tab out of the game would be nice...

There will probably be lots of overlap with this thread, but I have to say a highly customizable UI is long overdue.

No thanks towards NPC's with voices... more often then not I like to play with volume on mute and my own music playing.

Also even if you say voices with an option to turn them off and have only text. I still say no. That is alot of extra effort, and all the voices will be used over and over, so NPC's will sounds to much like the same. The quality will also be rather poor.

I think a system that detects what jobs are in your party and adjusts mobs so that combination of players and jobs can defeat any mob with the right teamwork. I hate that some fights in FFXI can only be done by certain job combinations.

Not to make killing mobs easy, but don't give us mobs that can't be beaten by the current setup you have in the group.

Most fights can be done with different setups, people just choose not too. People just take the easiest way to beat a fight, that doesn't mean its the only way.

There are still many setups that will not work at all for some harder fights, but work fine for regular mobs. If people knew they had a shot at winning with their current setup, it may make them more adventurous.

Detail, Technical Leaps.

I'm big on detail. The small things are what make me appreciate the game more and more.

Things such as battle damage: blood (nothing crazy like gears of war), slash wounds, broken armor, etc. (gets restored when entering Mog House)

Things that show our characters aren't perfect: randomly tripping while running, Battle animation changes when in red hp (character also slows down >;) ), Sometimes failing casting magic(we melee characters miss, so how come mages can't fail to cast magic sometimes?)

Fun Stuff: Monsters fighting each other randomly, Weather/Seasons, and ... when zoning into your mog house, let's not have it a room, let's have it like a regular zone that leads to your house which you can upgrade, have your own actual garden that you can farm (I know Pikko would love that ;D), crafting room, maybe a pond for fishing?, and perhaps your own pet that'll guard your house besides a moogle?

I might be thinking a bit too much here but i'd love to see all of this stuff in FFXIV. I don't think we'll see blood though, I don't believe SE has ever shown any kind of blood in any FF.

Epedemic, I think your ideas are great. SE needs creative people like you to help them make FFXIV stand out from the crowd.

I also thought about actually having a real house instead of just a 'room'. But i just couldn't figure out what you would 'do' in that house... In FFXI I only went in my mog house to go afk, change jobs, switch out items, and go lfg.

That'd be great, but only only on a cosmetic level. Maybe if you're low on hp your character stumbles every now and then or they clench their stomach or something like that.

Just a couple of things I'd like to see are...

1) The ability to capture and train your own mount.

2) Player only able to Bazzar while stood still displaying a banner/speech bubble which includes a short description of what they're selling loosing the need to 'check' each character for this information.

3) Idle animations for each race/gender.

4) More involved crafting system with less emphasis on the Crafting Guilds and more on the player housing with the relevant furniture/equipment stored there.

5) MORE EMOTES! Lol!

6) Mini games.

7) More variety in equip used for battle but also more widely available 'costumes' for the 'look good' factor. I loved the Fearie Wings in FFXI but I wished they had a more permenant option than a fire-work.

8) A Veteran reward system, like in City of Heroes. Depending how long you have been subscribed, the better the rewards.

Going out on a limb here, without knowing a lick about how equipment will work in XIV...

I'd like to see some diverse and oddball gear, like in XI. For example, the Holy Breastplate and Shield JSE for WHM's. Believe it or not, I had a very nice tanking set for my WHM including those two items. I absolutely loved playing with it at rare opportunities where there was no tank seeking, and the party was laid back enough to let me play WHM/WAR without anyone getting their panties in a twist. It's always fun and challenging to try to break the job-role mold, beginning with customizing your equipment.

Thanks a lot. ;D

I wish SE would hire me, it'd be a dream come true for me. Yeah having your own house that you can go into and have fun in, perhaps play some mini games in there and have some sort of sparring area where you can summon a few friends and maybe a mob to practice on.

That's a good idea to add to that. I probably should have added that "randomly tripping while running wouldn't slow your character down, just a certain animation plays that looks like you are tripping" although if you're low on hp, it could slow your character down. ;)

Personally though, I'm looking to see weather/seasons. I want the season's to affect our characters as well. We shouldn't run as fast when in the snow (maybe 90% run speed when in snow). Maybe in the summer, our characters can get extra aggressive(attack faster, stronger) at random times. (Summer is known for being the killing season since it's so hot it makes people go crazy or be more aggressive.)

This may sound odd to some, but I'd really like to see a good in-depth story. Such as missions that actually make you feel like your accomplishing and really working torwards something. Like seeing your character develop over time, forming what will be your own personal story. Maybe give you more choices that influence where you start and the path you take. The best way I can put it is "You're living your character not playing the game." if that makes much sense.

I like when some quests/missions are specifically about you, the player, rather than help this old woman cross the street and here you get some of milk and cookies. For example, your finally hit a certain point where your ready to venture to you first new region or your making your first big step that is the stepping stone for the start of your adventure, and thus you have a little celebration of NPC's maybe even other players you met along the way, cheering you on as you near the cities gates. Single-Player FF games did this really well because you played the main character and played their story, I'd like see them accomplish this with FFXIV.

i would like to see no jobs, no levels

i would like to see abilities, job traits, merits, ect. quested for and once recieved, equipable much like FF9's ability system (or equiping abilitys from FF7(same thing))

i would like to see customizable weapons much like in FF10's game play that provides a timesink for endgame players who want to get "relic-like" or specified weapons and armor

i would like rare/ex items almost completely taken out (of course there are cases in which that is perfectly needed) or completely rare/ex both provide their own advantages

i would like to see more elemental corrolations to monsters (absorb, strengthen, ect.)

i would like to see similar crafting system but with all of the crafts going to 100(or max)

i would like to see pointless quests for item space in your mog house abolished, outlawed, and thrown in prision because they are retarded.

i would like to see more customization to character models, but i really don't care that much because looks are much more secondary to a game but not on women

i would like the addition of an on screen map in say the corner of the playing screen because the ingame map is a POS

i would like to see the addition of more detailed(or simple for that matter) PvP and large scale PvP with nice and shiny rewards.

i would like a solo option or full man group option even if the quest or fight would be tougher solo

i would like quests to be significantly more descriptive, because only god SE knows what to do for each quest

i would like more auto travel, or instant warps from place to place to get rid of needless timesinking travel.

i would like the continuation of BCNMs and such other instances

i would like for ffvx to contain dynamis-like PvE

i would like there to be no/low penalty for a death

i would like there to be substantial story

I agree with Lechnage on the continuation of BCNM type fights. What I would like to see modified is particularily BSNM/KSNM drop procedure. If I grab two other fellow adventurers to do the Kraken club BSNM for instance and on my orb I set quartermaster to me and we kill Fe'e no prob I should get all the loot, no questions asked. The way it is now there are opportunities for people to disband just as Fe'e is killed, open the treasure and steal what is someone else's.

I like the mentioning of voice in our npc's complimented with subtitles for those of us that like to have the music cranked while playing.

I would like to see a completely different gil system, maybe involving set prices.

I'd like it if XP stayed capped upon reaching the maximum level, I think being weakened is penalty enough for dieing.

One addition I have really enjoyed was the level sync system.

I would also like to see more events like salvage, drop rates aside it's probably the event I have enjoyed the most since I have been playing this game.

Another battle event similar to campaign would be very welcome as well.

Agreed, Salvage is easily the most fun I've had in FFXI. But it does get frustrating after awhile when you get zero luck with drops lol.

hmmm... a realy good crafting system, were crafting is what's fun about it and not selling "phat gears".

A robust (expless) quest system for faction reputations including mutualy exclusive quest lines and npcs that respond acroding to the choices made durring the quests and typs of quests you have done.. City guards might not react as well to you after you've been helping the local mafia hehe.

Events that have an effect on the world, possably changing the world slightly between servers.

but enough about me :P

Good story to follow.
-A crafting system where the items are actually beneficial to you. I did like the style of the FFXI system.
-Maybe a return of item synthesis.
-Would love to see an all out battle area based on levels, where you can just go and play with others without having to join a raid or group. Just mass killing waves of mobs for fun. Slightly strategic with the possibility of mobs just destroying groups of players as well. Would make it challenging and entertaining.

I'm hoping the armor/weapons are nice to look at and distinctive from one another.
Maybe some kind of item 'dissecting' of some sorts... (Tearing down a leather item for scraps?)
Skillchains and MBs would be nice to see return as well.

I would love to see the same kind of multi-LS/guild type thing where you can be in as many as you want, like they had in FFXI. Just because after playing other MMO's where you can only be in one guild at a time, and finding out that it really sucks when you have to choose between joining the guild all your friends are in, or joining the guild that does endgame stuff.

Rattling these off the top of my head...

-Tenzen
-FFVIII's card game (not some similiar variant like tetra master)
-Casinos
-Weekly or Monthly Lotteries
-Summonable Bahamut
-A Carnegie Hall-ish concert venue where players can congregate and listen to SE music (Think Npc's playing music selections; everything from the Star Onions, to the Black Mages, to Orchestral compositions)
-A FF Theatre where you can watch npc plays reenacting scenes from various FF games. (Complete with manufactured set pieces, wires, spotlights, etc.)
-Flying Mounts

I'd like to see that the fifth unnamed city-state is an aerial location... perhaps even with something like an npc-only race of dragons... or gods/goddess (I reckon they have to physically manifest themselves somewhere in Eorzea now and again, right?

I really dunno if this has been suggested somehwre on the forums and apologies in advance if it has... (perhaps I should've started a new thread for this to get the community's views on this)... but SE have been mysteriously cagey about the name, inhabitants and general information regarding the identity of the sixth city-state and it leads me to believe that maybe, just MAYBE, it's location is airborne. Btw, the race of dragons thingy came to me ever since I recently had another look at that rapture concept video... at the end of that video, the flying dragons there seemed somehow "comfortable" flying around the city (which we have all presumed is an early shot of Limsa)

We have to remember, Square Enix typically loves airborne cities and my instinct tells me that somehow, Eorzea won't be complete without some sort of spectacular "aerial" city. For example, we had Ru'Ann "sky" in ffxi, Bhujerba and Lemurés in the ffxii games...and don't forget that it's that same team that's doing the art work for ffxiv... so perhaps ffxiv might have one?

-NO RMT. Seriously, learn from your @#%^ing mistakes SE and think beforehand when designing how the economy and manipulation of it can be dominated by RMT this time around. Everywhere I @#%^ing look there is something that reminds me of SE's absolute failure to circumvent RMT when it became a problem back in 2005. Quests gimped, NMs gimped, BCNMs, account hacking, keyloggers, 50 spams an hour, Gil buying and selling, overcamped areas by RMT, botting, AH price fixing, mass bannings for selling @#%^ing water crystals to NPCs, actual monsters that patrol fishing areas, gardening being a high risk activity... I mean seriously.. the entire @#%^ing game is now sculpted on how to just manage them, it makes me sick.

-A UI API that is customizable and skinable would be great.

-Static Linkshells and not multiple ones that you can pick and choose from at any given time. Many people will disagree with me on this one, but I think being able to have only one Linkshell at a time promotes progression and friendships with a single group of people. I can name a few LSs on my server that do XYZ, but I cannot name a single player that belongs to a single one. Where as in other MMOs there are well known guilds and players lucky enough to belong to those guilds that I can name easily and hope to one day become part of.

-A game that has EndGame as a planned game mechanic rather than an afterthought designed to please bored players. Enough said. (This part actually worries me about FXIV)

-No carebear stares this time around. FFXI took many of the challenging and difficult aspects of jobs and the mechanics behind them and just nerfed them for no apparent reason.

-A sensible and secure account management system that is web based and easy to navigate and use.

-Areas that are dynamic and vast enough that I can not navigate them on autorun while chatting on the phone.

-Mobs that look different from level 5-75. You can call it a Steelshell but it looks exactly like the @#%^ing River Crab I killed 4 years ago to me.

-Dark and Scary not cute and bland. The cutesy aspect of FFXI would be much better served with some very grim and evil areas and encounters.

-Pet classes. Yeah.

-Voiceovers that don't feature Miss Teen South Carolina. I know they are doing Voice overs this time around, I pray to Baby Jesus every night hoping it doesnt follow along the history of past English Dubbed FF titles.

ff14 is supposed to be classed as a next gen mmorpg so it will be interesting to see what a next gen mmorpg will include and what will make it different from all the others. id like hunger to be a part of it and have your character like a virtual pet style where you have to care for your character to keep him performing, not so intense that your caring for it all the time but you know what i mean. Also with teleporting to cities i dont think they should make it that easy, i think traveling should be involved, becomes part of the fun of walking and gettin attacked by mobs on the way even tho it is really annoying but i think they should still keep airships in.

by the looks of some of the screenshots weather and day/night will be included, i saw a screenshot with rain and some screenshots also show a sunset and night time.

with them classing this a next-gen mmorpg i suppose i have high expectations for this game and thinking of things they have never done in any mmorpgs.

And the ability to pick up taru and run around with it while it casts magic at stuff.

Something I'd like to see in 14 is more advanced AI.

In XI there's a creature food chain mainly used for bst when selecting the right pet to use against their target. In 14 I'd like to see mobs actually interacting with each other. Maybe a flock of birds are eating the squishy worms you wanted to exp on. Or maybe a beastmen party has said up camp and are hunting your prey. Now you'll have to decide if you can handle them or move someplace else.

"Weaker" non-aggro mobs will be scared off and run if you get too close. This will make it even more important that you have the appropriate class pulling for you.

Creatures should also roam more instead of having very predictable respawns. Imagine tracking sheep or dodos that move as a herd and are looking for food or being chased by a large predator or another group. Maybe you can track them by the grass they've eaten, their tracks, and using a wide scan ability.

A group of players harvesting or fishing may also be effecting your prey's food supply.

It would be interesting if weather and seasons in ff 14 changed the way you played. Bad weather might slow down your progress as your party would have to find shelter. Creatures would migrate to another area depending on the weather, season, change in food supply. You now have to find where the mobs relocated, it might not be in a convenient area. You might have to fight something else.

Something I always wanted to see in XI since it first came out was something like Ultima Weapon in FF VII. Ultima Weapon or a Dragon randomly attacking cities or highly populated zones. It wouldn't be something that was implemented after everyone on the server had reached lvl cap or like besieged. It would really cause trouble for players and have them running for their lives. And given it's nature it would take a very determined group of high lvl players to defeat it once it was located.

internal reward systems for endgame, (in addition to external ones)

similar mechanics to assaults get points trade points for items/armor. as opposed to external ls point systems.

few reasons for this, firstly peoples situations change and maybe there working hours mean they can no longer do an event with a certain linkshell thus need to find another one losing all the points they've earnt in the process. an internal system would help prevent this, maybe you've spent 6 months doing dynamis but your new job means you cant attend that ls's schedule anymore. you could find a new ls and take your points with you. sure you'd start at zero with the new ls on any "dropped" relic but you'd at least have the option of for trading in your "dynamispoints" for a piece of relic armor with one of the hourglass goblins or something.. and you'd have kept those points from your old shell.

secondly people sometimes feel tied into bad linkshells cos they have substantial numbers of points and dont want to lose them changing to another shell. again while they may lose points from a coinciding external system at least they'd have an alternate means to obtain stuff via the internalpoints.

thirdly with se's plans to make this game ideal for the "casual gamers" an internal points system would benefit casual players who may only do an event now and again. in current ffxi trends these ppl either dont do the events or will never earn enough points to achieve items they desire. an internal system where buy the player could build up there points at a pace that suits them and still achieve the items they desire would be great, i.e if you did assault every day you could probably get a yigit piece in 2-3 weeks. but people who do assault once a week or less would still be able to work towards that same item. thus making content available to everyone.

fourthly it adds some kind of insurance to all players if there group suddenly breaks when the leaders get what they want and leave.

and finally i would make this in additon to current methods, so for example in limbus you earn x amount of for clearing zones and ultima/omega still drop there organs, however also the possibility of being able to obtain those items with points earnt, so say you've cleared 30 zones killed omega 5 or 6 times you didnt win any lots on any of the organs however over the course of those 30 runs you've maybe earnt enough ingame "limbuspoints" to buy an organ off sagheera and thus obtain your homan that way.

or in my origanal example of assaults you could clear an assault get ya 1500 assault points or however many and also stand a chance of finding a piece of ap armor/other item in the lockbox.

while id'd be impossible to implement everywhere, for example things like sky/sea/hnms would be difficult to implement cos of there openess it could be implemented rather well into instanced things like assault/salvage/dynamis/einherjar type stuff.

einherjar id say is a great example. you earn ampoules ingame for taking part but your ls most likely has some kind of points system for the abjurations/odin drops, now if it was extended to allow you to also acquire those abjurations from your ampoules it would allow people alternate ways to obtain things. if odins helm thing drops from odin then can be lotted in the normal manner, but if you have particularly bad luck like you've killed odin a dozen times and not seen it drop or you continously roll low numbers then maybe you've earnt enough ampoules to obtain your helm with those instead :)

also some kind of enhanced AH system, where you can place orders to buy x items at x price, bit like eve-online if anyone plays that. say for example i want ahagun for my sam i can put on the ah that i want to buy one for x amount of cash and then the anyone selling them can either look and accept one of the buyers offers or try to sell at his own price. also visible. adds a great deal of flexibility, like hmmm i can see 5 ppl selling a hagun for 3 million i'll put an offer on for 2.8 and maybe one of those sellers will accept my price.

or the seller can look at the ah and see 5 ppl are offering 3 million for a hagun maybe 1 of them will pay 3.2. which also adds the option of instant cash. cos the seller can see these offers and if he chooses to accept one he'll have his cash immediately rather than having to list it and wait for a buyer, like in ffxi, which with some of the slow selling items can get expensive with multiple listing fees which brings me to.......

also let things stay up on the ah for longer, if you could list stuff on the for a month or even longer would mean alot less ppl leaving there systems on all day everyday with bazaars and help save the enviroment a little bit. and maybe make it so you only pay tax if a sale is successfull. so if i list an item for a month and it doesnt sell then i pay nothing. but if it does sell then i pay my 1% tax or however much
