Wow!
I've waited so long for a new ff mmo! Despite all the other aspects, however, I keep thinking about the races. I really didn't want this game to be an FFXI-2 so i was very happy when they officialy said it wasn't.

But wait... the same races? I know they're going to have different backrounds and fewer tails but... seriously? It got me scared. All through FFXI you see rehashes.

Rehashed armor, rehashed food pictures, rehashed npcs, rehashed areas, and rehased character faces. I couldn't believe that they were porting over these known races from FFXI while trying to pass off the game as it's 'own thing'. It smelled like BS to me. It got me thinking about the trailer, too. You can say what you like but that trailer was not interesting in the least. In fact, on the ship i saw 2 or 3 identical white haired hume boys. Also, their armour was disgustingly familiar...

Just like the yinyang robe and the MNK/NIN/SAM thing... How uncreatively dank. *bleh*
----------------------------
Anyways, I took it upon myself in these uninformed times to go ahead and make a 'what if' character thing. I figure, if FFXIV is going to steal races from Vanadiel it might aswell take some actually interesting races from Ivalice.

The best races for FFXIV, to me, include: Gria, Viera, Moogle, and Seeq.

Where's Bangaa? Nuu Mou?! They aren't needed :) Why? THEY AREN'T NEEDED! *phew* But seriously, we don't need that many races. I picked four because they only ported 4 races from FFXI. Hume is standard.
Soooo we're left with equal races:
Hume (standard. Stop being racist SE. Throw some color in there. It's funny how they're asian and yet they glorify whites so very much... Disgusting, really.)
Elvaan = Viera (Tall, dark, and smexy)
Mithra = Gria (Moe, cute, halfbreeds)
Taru = Moogle (Adorable, smart, magically inclined)
Galka = Seeq (Large, intimidating, rough)

There ya go! Perfect!!! With this match up we're left with 9 races altogether (wow! yay!) providing us with plenty of diversity and depth. We get a story for each race and it also makes more combos for jobs etc. It does seem like a little much but I'm sure it would work out.
Also, I strongly believe in the idea of copulation. No one gendered races. That's just uncreative filth on the developers part. Too lazy to create another side just because the other is... well, there's no reason.
And for the douche's who think that a seeq woman would be to hideous for their dainty constitutions to handle... grow some balls. Not all women have to look like tarts, k? A seeq woman would just be one of those rare oddities that players would get to see from time to time. Just like galka, at least for me.

Lol, I didn't party with a galka till I was level 40whm and i thought he was so cool!
--------------------

NOW FOR THE MAIN PART!
I took the liberty to jot down some made up stats. It's all hypothetical though... and i'm bored :)
Now, the stats are 1(weakest) and 10(strongest).

Stat: -Hume - Mithra - Elvaan - Taru - Galka - Gria - Moogle - Viera - Seeq-
STR: 6______6________7________4______10______8______4________7_______6
DEX: 6______8________6________6______6_______7______7________8_______5
VIT: 6______5________6________3______8_______4______4________6______10
AGL: 6______8________7________7______5_______10_____6________6_______4
INT: 7______6________5________8______5_______4______10_______5_______7
MND: 6______4________8________7______4_______4______5________9_______3
CHR: 6______5________6________6______5_______7______9________4_______3
HP: B______B________A-_______C-_____A+______B+_____C+_______B_______A
MP: B-_____C________B________A______C-______D______B-_______A+______D+

*pant pant pant*
WAIT! I know some of these may seem drastic to those of you who want everyone to look, act, talk, and **** the same as you. Too bad! That's the point of having different races! They excel at DIFFERENT things and are better at CERTAIN jobs. BUT, that's the fun part. I saw a few galka mages and taru plds. Nothing wrong with it. It just means those individual players worked harder to be the best.
In game it'd be a matter of choosing the right items for YOUR race. I have a few explanations though to help... well... explain >_>

(All based off of appearance and previous roles(YES I KNOW THEY'LL BE DIFFERENT, GOD!))
Hume: The basic, standard, common, master of jack guy ^^ Pick him if you're BORING.

Mithra: Lithe cat race. Higher DEX/AGL.

Elvaan: I gave them high mind because of their spirituality. Also stronger than hume obviously ^^.

Taru: I made them weaker in STR and VIT because i think it's bogus that a 2foot taru can tank as well as a 6foot hume. Doesn't add up even in a fantasy world.

Galka: Yeah! 10 strength! Have you seen their arms?! Wooooow. Unfortunately the other part are kind of low... What do you think?

Gria: Small bodied dragon race. They look like 13 year olds even though they might be 100. The perfect moe character. They're very strong and TERRIBLE at magic. I based this off of FFTA2. I don't think they can even be mages in that game, so i gave them more than they deserved. Because of their aerial excellence i gave em a 10 in agl but it evens out because of their low vit right?

Moogle: These moogleswould look like they do in FF12/FFTA2. About 3(1/2) feet tall. I gave them high int because of their engineering background. They're just so smart >.< the 9 chr is for their kuponess. You know it's true. Aesthetically though, it'd be better if they had large, round mouse ears instead of rabbit ones seeing as we have viera...

Viera: I gave them high mnd because of their connection with the wood. And they are very lithe and graceful soo... This is the race that i think needs work. I tried to give it pros and cons like the other races but it needs tweaking.

Seeq: This race would look so cool in game! Woooooow! Because of the weight i gave them perfect vit! Go tank race! Unfortunately they have a lot of lows... But this is what fit with their description and history..

-------

What do you guys think? (this is all for fun..)

GIANT WALL OF TEXT! BWA.. BWAHA... BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Now, for those bored and/or interested please indulge in these questions!

1. What race would you choose in (HYPOTHETICAL)FFXIV based on these stats and appearances (found on google imagey!)?

2. What do you think needs work stat wise?

3. What changes would you make to race/stat/look?

4. Do you think more races would improve the story and depth?

5. Discuss :]

FFXIV will be different in gameplay. Different battle system etc. THIS makes it different from FFXI. some graphical parts might be the same like, same races ... but who cares about that anyway. its just a visual something of your character.

also, i only read the first few lines of your post. sorry about that.

Ohhhh that's okay. I didn't expect most people to read all of it. I just wanted to put my ideas down. It was... therapudic(sp!!!) for me because ever since 6/02/09 i've been constantly wondering about races.

I understand what you're saying, though. Hopefully FFXIV is the best no matter what races they have :).

"This game is terrible! I cant believe SE not only didnt learn from their mistakes but seemingly actively reproduced them! Its terrible, its unaccessable to most people, and a blatant re-skin of FFXI!"

Copper copper copper....

*sigh*
You mised the point. It doesn't matter what your 'cats are too feminine to be male!' view is. In real life cats still have male counterparts. It's about the CHOICE. That's the point of more races as well. More races = MORE CHOICES. You get me?

Do you not know that some boys in the world ARE fem? And MAYBE... just maybe... Some guys like agile type characters. If they want to play a mithra they shouldn't be forced to be girls just so they fit in with YOUR distorted views.

About race... I don't care if they are homogenous. In fact, that would lead one to believe that most of the hume choices would be ASIAN. But they aren't. I'm not sure why the Japanese glorify whites and I don't care. But they need to recognize that other people play their games and WANT to play their games. Don't tell me 'Just be an elvaan!'. YOU BE AN ELVAAN! If I want to be an asian hume I should have more than ONE friggin option. God, that asian dude had the wierd hair and everything.

Also, chocolate mithra would be cool. But, for fantasy races I have no quarrels because they don't necessarily deserve skin tone options. Tarus, for example had two skin tones. It was the only way you could tell the genders apart. Males had this tan sunset color and females had a lighter golden color. I don't think they should be lighter or darker because that's just how their race is.

BUT, for humes, that should not be the case. And if it is, then they shouldn't be humes. Just call them WHITE POWUH race.

Edit: Also, I know that none of these races are in the picture. I looked really hard.. This is all just some boyhood dream. A dream... OF CREATIVITY AND DIVERSITY IN HARMONY! Just because they aren't in the picture doesn't mean a thing, though. There are no female taru in the picture. I guess we won't have female tarus! They be extinct! Frankly, I don't even think that horned thing is a gria for some reason. We'll see.

You have a really big problem with Solipsism

A. Maybe some people would like to order a male stripper for their bachelor party.
B. Maybe some people would like to order a male stripper for their bachelorette party.
C. Some people would like to be the male stripper at the bachelorette party.

I suspect C is the most common reason people want male mithras.

You have now heard of a female with a penchant for cat-boys.

Now you can't say that anymore :P

Nah, it is you who missed the point. Cat girls = *** appeal. Did you not get that memo?

The same doesn't really work reciprocally -- there are different things that appeal to women. Therefore, it really only made sense to have a female mithra.

Rob Pattinson is ugly as ****. He looks like when he was born, that he was beat within an inch of his life with an ugly stick, then tied to the bumper of the ugly bus with an ugly rope, and dragged face-first ten ugly blocks down ugly street.

I will NEVER understand why other women seem to think he's attractive.

Seeq are just too **** ugly to put in the game. Sure in theory they might be great for tanking but 0.001% of the player population would spend months leveling a freaking Seeq.

Seeq, Gria and Viera are supposed to be exclusive to Ivalice-based games, according to SE.

[EDIT]

(As are Nu Mou, Bangaa and a few others. But you didn't mention them).

SE isn't gonna put Ivalice races in a game that doesn't take place in Ivalice. If there is/are new race(s) I have a strong feeling they'll be something we've never seen before.

This is mainly why I don't think that horned child in the concept art is a Gria. I don't think the horns are an accident but i'd sooner bet on it either being a new race different in appearance from Grias or a special NPC that is central to the plot. Maybe there's some legend about a boy born with horns who signals the end of the world or something.

Now I know the 5 returning races are races that SE is essentially taking from another world but they've already said why they're doing that and there would be no reason at all for them to put Ivalice races in FFXIV besides "we couldn't come up with any new ones."

Personally I think there's a good chance we will be able to have hybrid races. It would eliminate the necessity for adding new races and also give us more customization options. It would also create a middle ground for those who, let's say, want the look of a galka but want to be a mage. The only other way to disassociate looks from stats would be to give all races equal stats. . . nothx. For example a galka hume mix could look like a shorter less stocky galka and would have more mana, less hp, etc.. Hmmm maybe the tailless version in the trailer was actually a hybrid. Lol probably not but just sayin.

A few figures in the concept art look a little like hybrids like the short boy with a very taru haircut and elvaan ears. It could just be a young elvaan but why is he hanging out with adventurers in a pub/lounge type area. Also I've heard many say that the female elvaan looks like a hybrid as well due to her ears and facial features.
