Today Windows 7 was RTM:ed (aka gone "gold")

I was wondering if you guys think FFXIV will support the 64-bit Windows 7 or only the 32-bit ?

I don't see why they wouldn't support both.

If by support you mean fix problems you have, most definitely they'll have to support both. If by support you mean will utilize the power capabilities of a 64 bit processor and OS then yes; judging from various interviews, which I'm too lazy to find and quote, 64 bit support will be there.

No I meant if the game will have 100% support for 64 bit OS. As far as I know very little games offer support for 64 bit OS and those that does have been stormed by users claiming all sort of problems.

Well, despite your no that fits you in the first support. It's also rather flawed. At one points game had problems with windows vista 64 bit but now not really. Games actually DID have support for that with many putting out patches specifically for 64 bit users and this wasn't even a problem with the games but a problem with windows (which was eventually fixed).

SE will most definitely support a 64 bit system.

Vista is tolerated by most users (myself included), not celebrated.

By the time FFXIV is released, Windows 7 will have been available for retail for at least seven months...

After ~five years of development, it would be incredibly short-sighted of SE to harness their new MMORPG to a universally criticized OS and an outdated 32 bit platform (32 bit XP and Vista operating systems do not support more than 3 gigs of RAM for @#%!'s sake).

If FFXIV is going to have any kind of longterm lifespan, Windows 7/64 bit systems will definitely be supported.

SE said they would support the latest tech so I would assume that would mean Windows 7 64 and Direct X 11. Windows 7 comes out this Oct. I don't see this game coming out until next August at the earliest so I am sure it will support Windows 7.

You should probably keep in mind, the PS3 is a 64-bit console (I'm guessing), so it would only make sense to have a PC counterpart.

As for Windows 7, as I've said before, it'd be great if they added Games for windows LIVE support, although I can dream right? That said, the requirements set by MS on a GFW game include 64-bit support, 360 controller support and a windowed mode so I'm sure a few people would like this!

the ps3 has a 128-bit 8-core cell cpu
1 core is disabled to get more yields, 1 core is assigned to the ps3 os
so the devs have 6 cores of 128 bit / core available for programming

this is what makes developing for ps3 more difficult then programming for pc

I strongly suspect W7 will be fully supported, as anyone who has beta tested it will tell you it is exactly what Vista should have been. In seven months, in my opinion 7 will be firmly cemented in many PCs, overtaking Vista and finally eating into the XP figures properly.
