Anyone have an idea when/where do we sign up for beta testing. If any? Thanks.

I believe registering at Square-Enix Members marks eligability for Beta testing.

Rumor has it that Beta could start in September of this year. Please remember that this is a Rumor.

That might be Alpha Testing.

The Tokyo Game show isn't until September 24th. They probably wouldn't miss the chance to milk that home-turf hype for all it's worth by throwing out the Beta before or just after.

I wouldn't expect any beta information to come out until TGS. If it doesn't come out there, then the Squenix party in late Fall/Winter would be the next logical place for the news to break. After that, GDC in March, but I highly doubt that we'll have to wait that long to hear anything. For now though, you can submit your email for news and updates at the official FFXIV website.

This "rumor" was never even a rumor to begin with. A mod on another fan site speculated based upon some job postings for SE's European office. Then other sites, desperate for some FF news, linked to it and called it a rumor.

This did not originate from anywhere within SE.

There was a post on these forums that had information as to what the prereq's for beta qualification for SE games were. I signed up for both, and I know Square-Enix Members site was one of them. I haven't been able to locate the post, though...because ZAM hasn't added the FFXIV forum to the search engine yet for the forums.

Technically, I don't think something needs an official source to qualify as a rumor. It just needs to spread.

You're right, though, if this was a rumor it was an awfully crappy one. It was basically one guy reading his hopes and dreams into some vague job postings and no one else bothering to check the source.

The only remotely official comment we've gotten on the beta is "sometime in 2010." September is pretty much out of the question, if you ask me.

I think that is why it is a rumor. If it had actually come from within SE, it would have been called a "Leak" most likely. I'm not betting on a September release date, but i'm just as bad as everyone else that has high hopes for the game.

I registered as well, but all the news we have is a "2010" relsease. Could be anytime, but even if it's around X-mas, that should mean a beta would/should be right around the corner. *crosses fingers*

You have to be related to an Elvaan to Beta Test.

It's most likely going to be soon.
I've recently been trying to get a job at SE so I've been following their NA careers page, and it would seem they just recently took down the job posting for "MMO Community Manager", so it would be safe to assume the job has been filled;

In turn, if they were to start anytime soon, they'd need something to manage.

Well they could always manage the 5 monkeys and a gerbil and a white guy they currently have working on updates for FFXI. I think the monkeys have decided that bells need another big update, that is central to the November Update, and while they are at it, the gerbil proposed a great update to chocobo racing, more enfeebling items purchasable with chocbucks*

Wait what? Isn't that, you know, the definition of a rumor?

n.
A piece of unverified information of uncertain origin usually spread by word of mouth.
Unverified information received from another; hearsay.
tr.v., -mored, -mor·ing, -mors.
To spread or tell by rumor.

[Middle English rumour, from Old French, from Latin rūmor.]

That rumor was indeed proven fake, however for all we know SE could have set something for sept lol.
