I didn't think we'd see this game until TGS, this has me excited that we'll get some new information :D :D

These two quotes just made my day. I hope some substantial information is released at GamesCon, at least some of the basics of the game. Judging by the playable remark, I hope at least some of the battle system is revealed.

Anyone else take a look at that MiniNinjas? I loved the LOZ: Windwaker art style, and that game looks beautiful in the gameplay trailer!

Wow, I would kill to see some gameplay vid of XIV. Well, Versus too, but this is good news.

Was a huge Front Mission fan as well...sounds intreresting that they turned it into a 3rd person shooter (from turn-based strategy), but it would work.

GC has never been big on anouncements, although SE did put alot of effort into hyping German and French localizations of FFXI, and actually had a pretty impressive booth a couple of years back.

I'm glad to see there back in full force after last years abysmal trainreck (They showcased about 4 games, 2 were DS ones...)

Anyways, I wouldn't hold out for any playable demos, keep in mind this is a german expo, and I doubt the german localization is complete just yet. If we're lucky we should get a video though.

I got the feeling that SE is setting a statement here to Europe
Now that they have an office in London (previously Eidos) I really hope they will put alot more interest in Europe, releasing their games here on the same date as everywhere else.
this announcement is a good sign :)

Wonderful news! Really cant wait for more solid information! The possibilities; the "Growth"/weapon system, jobs, heck even a little insight into the battle system!

If there'd be a playable demo avaliable by gamescom, my hopes for FFXIV to be out by Jan 2010 (yeah right. lol) might actually be answered!

Can't even play anything else right now coz i much rather play FFXIV. Save us!

This is a **** of a suprise, I don't think many people thought they would be present at gamescon, well for FFXIV at least. My ONLY fear is that its just the video from E3 with maybe a bit more Q&A, but hopefully they will have something else to show that will hold us over till TGS. Lets keep our fingers crossed!

Whoa, awesome. The press release didn't make it clear, but that sounds pretty definitively like there'll be a live demo of the game there. That list is a pared down version of the full games list from the release, so those must really be the ones they're showing live.

I'm very surprised they will be letting out more info, especially at an event like this. Let me rephrase that actually, I'll be vey surprised if they reveal any new info. I really really really hope so, but it does not seem like the type of move SE would pull. Especially with TGS down the road. Not to mention a live demo. If all this happens I'll be expecting some type of beta announcement at TGS. My calendar is marked.

Im actually not that surprised really. Despite me saying we would be 'lucky' to get any new info till TGS, the FFXI team has done some big things at a similar gamecon two years ago when they showed off the official German/French version of the game. They also gave a new Q&A for FFXI at the last two similar cons (this is a new con, it was called something different the last several years and it was held somewhere else in Germany).

Secondly, unlike FFXIII where its a single player game with simplified gameplay (to make it easier for single player not that it can't be complex :P and only compared to a MMORPG). An MMORPG has too many gameplay systems, territories and other things to show off that its only natural new bits of info would trickle out over time in quick fashion. If they take the same approach they gave with WotG and ToA we will probably see info on new jobs and new areas every 2-3 weeks after TGS leading up to whenever the beta comes out, which I feel will match up with FFXIII's release as that would be a good way to put out beta keys and spark interest from other Final Fantasy fans. A simple gameplay demonstration at this event would fuel more speculation and understanding of just where this game is going to go, than at TGS they hit us with concrete info on where they 'want' to take the game. (I say 'want' because MMORPG are designed to change, and what they want they may find out won't work very well :P)

As for what I hope will become known at this event, if there is a live demonstration I want to see some new places we will visit, maybe just a quick but full battle and maybe show off the first jobs in the game (the main 6 in FFXI; WHM, RDM, WAR, MNK, THF and BLM were known VERY quickly after they made the first formal unveiling of FFXI, the advanced jobs were not really known till shortly before beta and were not even included in the beta till towards its end.) Basically just a simple understanding of what we are getting ourselves into. I don't need crafting information, detailed analysis of the actual job system or story, just something to wet my appetite of what we will 'experience' in the game.

I hope you're right, but the image you linked only confirms that Dissidia Final Fantasy will be playable. According to the image, attendees of the show will be able to "find out more about all the upcoming games from Square Enix" and see these games "live," which could basically mean "in-person" instead of "not previously recorded."

A new trailer/video might be likely, but a live/playable demo is not really "definitive" at this point.

Sounds promising.

I think there is a definite chance of more than a trailer, as the game is included in the "see live" list.

If it was just a trailer, I doubt they would include it in this list, as Final Fantasy XIII is in the press release as being at the show, but not on the live game list.

Not to say you can't be right, but there are several things at Gamescon from SE that is NOT on that list for the see games live. You will also notice that dissidia is repeated twice in the listing, one for playable demo, and another in the live section. FFXIII is supposed to be at this event but is not on the live section and SE confirmed there was not going to be a new demo for FFXIII till after the Japanese release so if its there it actually will be a trailer only. Secondly the way the press release talks about FFXIV makes it sound like it will be one of the main things they are planning to show case at the event. It will likely be demonstrated live, but not playable by just anyone who picks up a ticket. Probably a press only demonstration with a Q&A, but we should still get some new things to speculate on. At this point I am 90% sure it will not just be a simple trailer and Q&A that repeats only the info we know.

I hope you're right, but the image you linked only confirms that Dissidia Final Fantasy will be playable. According to the image, attendees of the show will be able to "find out more about all the upcoming games from Square Enix" and see these games "live," which could basically mean "in-person" instead of "not previously recorded."

That's all I mean by live demo. I agree that a playable demo is extremely unlikely, but since I won't be there I don't really care. If they're showing the game live, then we're pretty well sure to at least get a lot of info on the battle system and job system, which is the main thing we could ask for.

Honestly, RPGs and especially MMOs don't lend themselves well to playable demos anyway. Something like that could do more harm than good.

I know I am a bit late, but I need to destroy all your "hopes" ASAP.

As a person from Germany who visited the GC(the predecessor Convention of the GamesCom)3 times I need to inform you that GC and obviously GamesCom is not taken seriously on the market. GamesCom in Cologne is organized by the same Eventfirm who held the GC in Leipzig.

GC was always looked down on the perspective of gaming. And for all who expect some new information on FFXIV(other than the leaked infos that are out so far) bury your hopes. GamesCom will probably not even have the infos that re leaked by Famitsu and Dengeki the last 2 days. All you will see is the E3 Trailer...thats it, I can assure you 90% certain of that...GC never had any infos that were really interesting or not already known the public for more than a few months. Those so called "world premieres" are a joke...and the message "Experience the games live" is only pointing to "experience them on a screen live with your own eyes", nothing like see how they are played or anything else interesting!

GC has sucked for the last 5 years(from a real gamers perspective...casuals might find it interesting) and I doubt GamesCom will do any better, so don't expect anything new for FFXIV.

While the GC wasn't as far up the ladder in prestige as some other conventions, it was quickly becoming more and more notable. While I haven't attended personally, my best friend was at the last 2 GCs and he had nothing but positive feedback, and he is far from a casual gamer. It's definitely a bit premature to dash everyone's hopes. While the Gamescom is essentially the reincarnated GC, it still is a new venue with a reinforced focus on pure gaming and the pre-show buzz has been positive. Give them a chance before you **** on their parade. Even if they show us one or two new screenshots of FFXIV, I'm sure people would be happy with anything right now.

Here's the problem, people don't expect new info From the GDC either, yet new info pops out and quite frankly, regardless if GC is looked down on, GDC is looked down on even more for new info outside of stuff for developers.

I dunno ,I might be missing the mark all together with my reasoning but since this is supposedly going to be a world release doesn't it make since to release info to the fans of the world in their respective venues? Info leaked to us Americans at E3, Famitsu magazine and TGS-JP, and Gamescon for the European countries?

Well the info spreads to all regions anyways, so it doesn't make any difference where they do it. BTW E3 is an international convention, it's not just for americans...

Yes I know the information gets spread but releasing info in local venues gives the players a since of SE catering to the customer base as a whole not to just the Japanese customers/ fan base.
