The homepage art for the final fantasy xiv teaser website is true to final fantasy style: epic.

And I'm stoked for the game.

But the video...oh. so. cliche.

Cliche is the best word I can think of. I know it is just a teaser and the game is far from being set in stone...but it's not appetizing.

Okay, rip me.

In the world of Teasers, it's a great Teaser.
In the world of Square-Enix's Teasers?...maybe not the best they've ever done.

I'll admit I was more impressed with the teaser they came up with for FFXIII Versus.

The word cliche is such a...cliche. It's used so often these days I honestly give the "cliche" object more consideration than I normally would.

I'm not sure what you expected from the teaser. I always thought that teaser's were supposed to "tease" you by showing you a game and keeping you in suspense about what it will be like. It was way too early for them to be releasing concrete gameplay information as that is probably still getting ironed out

Oh, yes!
This one really caught my attention although that doesn't mean it'll make me buy the game because I generally don't care about commercials.

yeah man, thats why i made it clear that i knew it was just teaser. Im not looking at what it reveals, just how it plays out. But thank you for your wise words anyway.

Eh, it's a teaser for a fantasy MMO, so it's pretty much going to be cliché by default. Good vs bad, you're all heros, will you comrade it up to take down the threat, etc. I see what you're saying though as it certainly wasn't the greatest trailer. If they just announced the game and not shown a trailer I would have been just as pumped.

I have to disagree with the OP. IMO the trailer was amazing. It had everything it needed to make you want it. The trailer had some ground battles, with magic and melee. There was a sky battle, beautiful landscape, a mix of in game and cutscene graphics. It was perfect. If it had any more, well it wouldn't have been a TEASER, now would it?

I think it sucked.
They didn't show nearly enough and what they did show was so boring. The only part I enjoyed was the scene with the waterfalls and trees.

Everything else was sourly disappointing.

That's the whole point of a teaser... to tease. If they revealed anymore it wouldn't be a teaser. The hot chick your attracted to is mostly because you wish to see her naked. However if she walked around naked she wouldn't be half as hot. Simply because you already know what she looks like naked.

There needs to be something left to the imagination. And in doing so, it drives us nuts.

I thought it was extremely gutsy to show the air battle scene. That's one big expectation to live up to. And it will disappoint players if it's not like the trailer. It's to early to show off almost anything.

Instead of hyping us up from the start and letting us down. I would rather be teased by mediocre. Because there is still a chance to be blown away by the unknown when the game is actually released.

Agree with OP.

I hate it. It shows and tells nothing about the game, or the gameplay, or what we will ACTUALLY be seeing from the game. And that's what irritates me the most. CG's are used for like 2 minutes of the game and then it's over. I realize the point of it.. it's basically a gaming concept. But compare FFXI's opening video to the actual game. Minus (Very little) storyline, it says very little. And the FFXIV video didn't even give storyline. It's just a video of something that will be irrelevant.

I would rather see it paired with clips of gameplay, of the world we will be in. Something that is actually the game, not a concept.
