Races:
Hyuran (human)
Lalafell (taru)
Roegadyn (galka)
For Elvaans and Mithra "Elzen" and "Micott" are circulating, but there are no images to support the actual names for now.

I took a look at those and they seem legitimate to me, doesn't look like a 2ch prank.

Classes:

There are four categories of jobs right now: fighter, sorcerer, crafter and gatherer. Two jobs have been unveiled for each.

Fighter: swordsman, archer
Sorcerer: enchanter, warlock
Crafter: blacksmith, cook
Gatherer: gardener, fisherman

About customization:

"When you make your character, aside from choosing the race, you will also be able to customize their appearance. Head, skin color, hair type etc, there will be multiple factors. Just how exact we will be able to customize their appearance is still unknown, but we mean it in a good way when we say that it seems like it will become a worry to many players "

I think the lalafell look cute. Their top pointy lip is a little to pointy. I really like the outdoors feel of the mithra, almost rugged. This time around I will not play a Hyuran. To me they look boring compared to the rest. I think they are superb. I hope there are some other races that they keep a secret until later.

Very nice find.

They did say that they would be giving the races new names, didn't they?

I hope to see more!

it looks almost like taru's errr.. lalafells expertise this time will lie in rogue esque classes such as thieves, rangers, ect.. I'm basing it off their starter armor it's interesting but i guess we'll find out more as time comes! Finally some ffxiv info. Bg has some interesting translations and pics

They have knee caps!

Body structure of the Lalafells have more of a realistic look versus XI (more cartoon-like).

Maybe so but the races shown have similar equip so it's hard to say.

Seems famitsu, but I just found the scans on 2ch with no source clearly said.

Other info supposedly in the article (again, no scans so take it with a grain of salt):

There are four categories of jobs right now: fighter, sorcerer, crafter and gatherer. Two jobs have been unveiled for each.

Fighter: swordsman, archer
Sorcerer: enchanter, warlock
Crafter: blacksmith, cook
Gatherer: gardener, fisherman

Interestingly, the last scan shows male and female versions of the hume, taru and elvaan equivalent races, but only male "galka" and female "mithra."

A sign of no Girlkas and Manthras, or just an effort to keep it familiar to FFXI players?

They probably used the same type of armor an all of them, because all of them can be whatever job/class they want. I'm wondering if starting Stats are even going to be used this time around.

Translation of the readable part about customization (didn't do it, just found it around, I can barely read the scans):

"When you make your character, aside from choosing the race, you will also be able to customize their appearance. Head, skin color, hair type etc, there will be multiple factors. Just how exact we will be able to customize their appearance is still unknown, but we mean it in a good way when we say that it seems like it will become a worry to many players "

Ugh... I don't like the direction the new Tarus are going =[

And Sorcerer and Fighter? It's going all D&D on us. I would have preferred the tradition of Final Fantasy.

Little things like this might just push me away from bothering.

Nah i think the base classes just explain the tier you are embarking on, if you go further i'm sure we will see mostly all the names we know and love.

While taking this entire thread with a entire shaker of salt, given that the follow is true:

Quote:

This says something very interesting about the way Square-Enix is viewing crafts and (possibly) HELM in this game. I would propose that from this information, if true, we can guess (god forbid we should assume) that crafting and Crafters will be given the same emphasis as normal combat jobs. I'm not entirely sure where they will take that, but it's incredibly intriguing.

You choose mage, depending on which staff/club you pick up you grow into a WHM/BLM most likely.

Considering this is a FF game, really it can go either way, we're getting more info and it will be up on the official site soon enough.

I really hope so. I've always loved the traditional names, as simple as they are. They're just typical of every job based Final Fantasy, and well, it just wouldn't feel right not having them.

I'm pretty sure that

Fighter: swordsman, archer
Sorcerer: enchanter, warlock
are the Base Classes like in FFXI then u get Advanced Classes later on and that
Crafter: blacksmith, cook
Gatherer: gardener, fisherman
are more of a Crafting Proffession and not really a class because come on who really wants a Blacksmith as a class? lol so ya in reality they only realeased maybe just 4 classes and 4 Crafts for crafting. Would be bad if they just announced all the classes at first, I'm Sure these are just the 4 Base Classes.

Lots of MMOs out there has a Blacksmith/Whitesmith Class, Ragnarok Online being one of the more popular, it's not such a bad idea and there WILL be some out there who would want to play it.

I'm thinking there's a different sort of progression based on the skills and weapons that you use, so you sort of create the class by how you play.
Or not, who knows.

I got a seriously creepy vibe when I first saw the new "Tarutaru" images. It's like a cartoon head pasted on a miniature human body. Kinda like ripping the head off your sister's troll doll and pasting it on one of your GI Joes...Oh well, here's hoping they fix the female elvaan animations.

As someone suggested earlier, these four beginning classes are probably starting classes that will branch out as the game progresses.

And these are just the ones announced so far. I don't think it means that this is all there will be. Who knows.

But I would imagine that if someone started off as a fighter they would slowly fit into another class depending on how they played the game (weapon choice).
Either that or at a certain point in the game (as in quest progression) they are able to choose a class or assigned one based on how they play.

A beginning sorcerer would fit more into a black mage or white mage, etc...depending on how they played the game.

But a sorcerer wouldn't ever fit into a figter category, hence the distinction between the classes (at the start of the game/character selection?)

I believe it's by what "weapon" you are holding. Tools included. So if you have a hammer equipped you can blacksmith.

windurst.org speculation wrote:
for example for Crafters - wield a hammer to do certain things. For Fighters wielding I'm guessing (personal guess based on name translation) if you wield a meelee range weapons then you're in swordsman type class and if you wield a ranged weapon you're more an archer. For gatherers is the same, wielding a fishing pole and sickle means obvious things.

Those were rough translations.

Elmer we need you!

They're all wearing that same exact armor. If you look at the CG pics though, their the only ones wearing mage-looking armor.

I am not sure I like where this is all going... I think they are going to have it so that if you carry a sword you must be a WAR or PLD if you carry a bow then you must be a RNG and if you carry a staff then **** you must be some sort of mage..... so does this mean that RDM, BLU, and other hybrid jobs are SOL now?

One of the things I always liked about FFXI was that you could choose your job, SJ, and Weapon.... yes some folks were pretty stupid and chose to run around as a melee whm.... but for the most part people had a choice, but now it sounds like we won't be able to run around town as some geared up Kclub wielding WHM or choose the path of a RDM or BLU since if you have a melee weapon there is no chance you could also want to use magic is there?

You know you don't know enough to be getting worked up over it, so don't get worked up over it. We haven't seen any confirmation of anything beyond a vague reference to a few categories of something that may or may not be related to something that will shape that way something is played if something happens in a certain way. Or something.

Just be patient.

Looks interesting. I really like the redesigns of the races, espacially the Galka/Roegadyan...

So maybe, instead of picking out job for the day, we pick a category? Then choose a weapon to hone in on a speciality within that category - pick up our varied progress within that category from where we left off? Maybe the jobs within the categories blur at the edges, so you can still pick one weapon (say a staff for White Mage), but because you've taken a certain direction in the Sorceror category, you are more like a Red Mage than either a Black Mage or White Mage? Or whatever the jobs within Sorcerer are called...

Interesting to see that crafting seems to be getting some focus early on - maybe logging actually does the equivilent of skilling up your axe for battle?

More speculatiuon goes!

Based on this information and the new interview that came out and was posted, it would appear that possibly your Armor will depict your main job (Warrior, Sorcerer, Gatherer, Crafter) and the weapon you wield will be your sub-job (Swordfighter, Archer, etc).

It sounds more and more like we will level skills, and that the more we "train" with a certain weapon, the more proficient we will become with it and or magic associated with it. It would be like starting off as a Lv75 in FFXI but having 0 skills in all weapons and magic skills. You only get say 1000 skill points total and you train each day to raise those skills which you want (Sword, Archery, Black Magic, etc). Reaching certain levels unlocks spells and abilities etc, so this system will be quite interesting if this is the case.
