Would anyone know if they stated how they're going to do it? I think I remember them saying FFXIV will not be PlayOnline, but I'm not sure if they ever actually stated what it would be.

i don't see why it would be through PSN when the game will also be on the PC and if they are 'looking into other platforms' to place the game as i've read, then... well...

Hopefully nothing. I don't think there's really anything POL can do that FFXIV shouldn't be able to do within the game itself. My understanding was that a large part of the reason for developing POL was as a portal to the 'many' games that SE would develop online, which aside from FFXI and Tetra Master ended up being, what... one? Two? Unsuccessful games anyway. I think/hope this time they'll just stick to something simpler. Or if they must add a middleman, hopefully it will be far better than POL was.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

They might make a portal out of the square enix account, but for now you will need to wait and see its probably going to be announced as a last minute detail when they are getting ready to go into either beta or gold.

The devs confirmed at E3 that XIV would NOT be using POL. I'm guessing they're probably going to do what most other MMOs do and move to a web-based account interface that locks into the Square-Enix Account/Security Token.
