Hoping that SE reveals more races than what is shown?

Yes and no. I would like to see more races that are not playable. I think the races we do have playable though are enough.

Personally, I think the games feels a little bit too much like FFXI in terms of the graphical aspect. The lands and the races. That cave screenshot almost looks just like a certain cave we know. So yes, I would love to see an extra race with male/female characters but do I think we'll see it happen? No.

Although, if we get male mithra, I hope we get female galka since it'd only be fair. And if that does happen, perhaps we'll see the introduction of 2 more races with male only and female only, to balance it out.

From the first time I saw the trailer for FFXIV I was upset that SE would want to go this way to make the races the same. Honestly who would want to make the same exact or close to the character we made on XI. I'm hopping they add something even though I prob wouldn't make it but i would think if XIV was a brand new start then they had to have some sort of change. I am not entirely upset but yes i hope to see something new.

I agree with you up to a point. I think they should add male mithra/female galka because people have been wanting them almost since the time of FFXI's release. I don't think they'd need to add more single gender races though, as we'd just end up with the same problems we had with mithra and galka.

I did want a few new races but it isn't really a disappointment.

I'm guessing tons of, if not most, people.

Anyway, I personally don't care/mind at all that the PC races are so similar (and for the record I think that Male Miqo'te will be available) to FFXI. However, I am expecting much more variety in the types of enemies and mobs over what we had in FFXI.

I'm going to stay Tarutaru for sure.

But that's ONLY because they haven't changed the playable races at all, or even (as of yet) added any new ones.

I'm really disappointed by it, to be honest. I hope that the characters are extremely customizable, if we're getting the same race types as XI.

Ugh, stop already.

There's been so many threads on new races, mathras and girlkas... it isn't even funny. Please. For the love of Altana, STOP WITH THESE THREADS. Why can't people accept the fact that FFXIV is basically a SEQUEL? Just be happy they didn't cut out any of the original races. Jeez.

I'm a little disappointed, but as long as they are more customizable I can deal with it. What my Character looks like won't really matter after 20 days played when they are entirely covered in armor anyway.

Protip: Just stop reading them.

I'm going to have serious doubts about SE's ability to keep an MMO successful if they don't add male Miqo'te in addition to a couple of new races altogether. I mean, if they were really ambitious, they'd give us 10 dual gender races, which is merely on par with a lot of the newer MMOs. Now, I don't expect that level of effort-- if all those new races were to come at the expense of good gameplay, it wouldn't even be a good trade-- but I do think two new races and a male Miqo'te is kind of a bare minimum if you're attempting to convey the message that, "We're actually trying, here."

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

I really love the idea of FFXIV so far, and the character models are beautiful and refreshing.

I'm extremely disappointed in all the ******** and moaning coming from the people who want manthras, in particular. You're being arrogant and selfish. You just have to accept the fact that SE wants to stick to their lore, and fanboys have to accept the fact that this is NOT their project, it's SE's. I don't understand why you can't be happy with what's already in front of you. This game is beautiful, and you should appreciate what we have so far.

I have a funny intuition that they are going to release some races from the Ivalice universe". The system in this game has so many similarities to it. And the creator of XII is a lead for development for this game. I see Bangaa or the Nu Mou being a nice surprise. The Gria on the website art seems like a dead give-away that they'll be in it. I would'nt mind playing as a Bangaa, Elezen for me though, if I'm disappointed.

1) If it's a new number, it's not a sequel, lorewise. Also, its a different world and a different game system. It just happens they used the same races from XI, but a) I'm guessing there's going to be sub-categories, since they hinted at that, and b) we have no way of knowing if they're going to add new races, its very possible.

2) there's nothing wrong with wishful thinking. People are excited, that's good. If people don't want to read threads hoping for certain content, then, well don't.

3) Why the heck am I writing my posts in outline format. :P

I completely agree here.

My personal feelings, is that I'm glad Square Enix is keeping some of the old races, to keep people who are attached to their former selves feeling secure, and wanting to transition. But at the same time, a lot of people want something new, and fresh. They don't want things to be exactly like FFXI. They need to conform to both crowds, and give people something new if that is what they so desire. As Kachi said, even if they would give us at least 1~2 new races I would be happy. Just something to feel fresh and new about.

I think if Square Enix doesn't do so, it only proves they are being lazy once again.

Refreshing? Really? Did you mean to say "rehashing?"

Well, it seems that you're already assuming that SE has decided not to include male Miqo'te, but if you were paying attention, you'd realize that I'm not assuming anything. All I've said is that it will be phenomenally stupid of them not to do it for a number of reasons.

What gets me rude ("******** and moaning") is not SE (they only have the power to disappoint or impress me), but the people who make absurd efforts to defend the idea of not putting male Miqo'te in the game, or for that matter any other widely-recognized good idea that they just don't personally care about.

I'm not going to explain the five other things that are wrong with what you've said because they've already been explained ad nauseum, but suffice it to say that I think you're being an idiot. The only question is how temporary the condition will prove to be.

Edit: By the way, it would be great if we could keep the talk about male Miqo'te in the "Male Miqo'te" thread. I don't like derailing threads, and this is the second time I've seen someone from the "NO MANTHRA PLZ" camp bring the discussion to another thread. I mean, if you're going to ***** and moan -about- ******** and moaning, at least keep it in the original "******** and moaning" thread so that we can limit the ******** and moaning to as few ******** and moaning threads as possible. On the other hand, talk about moaning ******* is welcome anywhere, as far as I'm concerned.

They could include more playable races, but if they don't I won't be suicidal about it.

It is pretty obvious that they will include more playable races even if it is to get the press, fans, WOW loving trolls off their backs. Although I am not sure about male Mithra being included as having a female only race is a pretty neat option.... I think Male Mithra would be a bad addition visually.

I would think FFXI is a successful MMO. Nothing like WoW but longer standing than many that have failed with less than 2 years on the market.

SE is a big company and they can run the business without some few that would not play this game because of not adding genders that SE never promised in the first place.

But yeah, SE is doomed blah blah blah

Anywho, a wolf race would get my vote ^_^;

Ya, I definitely wouldn't mind some more races, but I'm happy with all of what has been revealed so far.
