I'm thrilled to learn of a new online Final Fantasy after finally walking away from the previous game approximately 3 years ago. I'm equally excited over the high activity level of these forums! It goes to show that the gaming community and FF fanbase continues to support the development cycle of the new game! While much of what we know is speculation and many of us are still waiting for more detail, I'm confident the game will turn out to be an amazing product of SE.
I find that although the game most likely won't come out until mid-late 2010, I'm already excited about the release! I haven't had this feeling since, well, the first online FF. And while FF was fun at the start, engaging, and entertaining, eventually it turned out to be more of a job than a game. I'm sure many of you can relate.
So my vow this time out is to explore all, experiment, group up whenever possible, and to contribute to the community in every way I can. That is clearly what I'm missing from the first game. As frustrating as it was getting stampeded by monsters at the zone line, I didn't really care as long as I was in a rocking party, Luckily, I had many a mage friend ;)
The community it where this game needs to deliver. Regardless of what faults are present at launch (and I'm sure there will be a laundry list), I'm hoping dedicated gamers and longtime FF fans will be able to make the most out of the community. I'm looking forward to reading up on the development of FF XIV, but my hope is to group up with mature gamers on a dedicated server to actively enjoy the FF experience. You just can't beat it, even years after walking away.
