Just a thought but sence their making it a more SOLO mmo will they give you help? I like the npc you can summon in FFXI and in WOW (god i hate to reference that game) everyone can get a pet. I think they might let you pay for one or your rewards in the quest will be less if you axcept NPC help. DarkSV approves this message..lol

What do you think?

Neat idea, but I'm hoping they don't add it in. I can already envision my rent-a-player somehow provoking a train of 8 goblins on me because he took a different path lol.

Not that it doesn't have potential. We need a summon spell to call an NPC and sick it onto one of your friends ;)

That sounds like the companion thing that they did in FFXI were you got the like 'friend' adventurer and you could lvl him up and stuff.

Whatever happened with that, I quit a little bit after that was implemented but it seemed everyone was doing it or so it seemed when I was waiting in a line to finish the quest*.

*Which I have to say was an amazing testament to the quality of players, that they would actually wait in a virtual line when you could just walk through ppl.

I will admit I was in line to get the NPC that you could summon. after I got it I found it to much of a pain to use or didn't need to use it. I had a few people summon it during a party and that just didn't go over well. not a bad idea but not a great one, I stopped using mine the day after I got it.

I would like it if they did an NPC summmon/NPC assist thing but only if it works.

NPCs helping players on their adventures always seem to lead to more bad than good.

Anyone who has played Oblivion knows how much they advertised their "Radiant AI" system and claimed that NPCs would be intelligent.

Oblivion AI comic.

Yea...last thing we need in FFXIV is a broken NPC AI.

But hey, if they make one that actually works...more power to them...and us.

The NPC in FFXI are good because they don't link anything and only ATT what u att.( they eat exp also but in FFXIV no exp so no feeding the npc exp) I can see a NPC in FFXIV that helps when soloing. Well sence this is more solo kind of game their trying to develope.

I think the NPC shopkeepers need to either sleep or rotate between a few different people with different personalities. Having the same NPC shopkeeper standing in the same place 24 hours a day 8 days a week, even when the shop is closed, gets a little creepy.

I cringe when I hear this. I don't want to solo in a MMORPG.

after I read that I looked at your avatar and it made me laugh, that's what I picture a shop keeper 24/7 to look like lol

Their making the game more solo friendly. So you can play when u logg in and not search for a party for hours like on FFXI. It will also have plenty of party play. The NPC's workrd awsome in FFXI they only ATT what u do and or heal you, Depending what NPC u pick. The NPC's AI was lame because they only ATT or healed you, but it was awsome because it worked.

I wouldn't be surprised to see NPC companions returning in some form or another. Love em or hate em in FFXI, the devs certainly make it a point to adjust and enhance them almost every update, so you know there's at least a handful of devs in love with the system.

Perhaps you could temporarily recruit them from your guild when you take guildleves (The Last Remnant?), or they might play a different role from the AI-controlled-player we're used to.

As long as there are no *shudder* escort quests. D:
