You know, more like this. The model from the site makes them look scary and their character model is proportioned weirdly. I hope the character customization will go farther than hairstyles/skin.

Meh, it's not like Mithra were feminine.

Because really, the 'cheap hooker look' isn't typically considered the bastion of femininity and ladylikeness.

I think they made the Elezen females look like that because the elezen are similar to the elvaan, a very proud race so they might look a little stuck up as they think of themselves on top.

If you want feminine be a human. Why should it suprise you that another race doesn't fit the same stereotypes humans face? Typically in the wild the females are larger and more dangerous. I'm pretty happy with the Elzen.

I think the one with silver hair and a pigtail is pretty hot. I'd just have to put bags over her ears or fold them back or something...
#6CommanderKing, Posted: Aug 11 2009 at 4:49 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) But then you wouldn't have elf ears =/ and those are hugely important in the MMO world according to the internets. Also i'm a human irl last I checked I don't want to make a clone of me in game, I wanna be more creative.

I rather like the way the female elezen model looks. She has strong facial features as opposed to cutesy small ones which is why you'd find her not as "feminine".

But keep in mind that that's only one character model. I'd assume that SE will give us different facial models to work with.

while we're about ears

why elezen have the ablilty to hear a mouse "up to several malms", while miqo'te only have a "superb olfactory sence" ?

miqo'te have CAT ears, if anyone should hear a MOUSE it's them... (that and they have a **** human nose)

if that's not wrong in itself, at least the exemple is <.< (and ok, that's 100% off topic)...

back on topic... well, the gears aren't exactly good to see... anything... neither other race's body looks really feminine

Personally, I think the new female Elezen look a lot better than the previous and they're still hot. Women with some masculine qualities(as long as it's not extreme) can look feminine and ****.

Hopefully Lowtech work some magic again with his DATs. ;)

At least you have some options. I think it's funny, females have more options in FFXI and FFXIV than males. Although I still think Female Galka could be done right, at least Elvaan women have a more "powerful woman" feeling to them. And at that, they still look plenty womanly, I think they are actually quite nice looking.

There are TWO races with the long pointy ears, and three for women, if you count Mithra/Miqo'Te cat ears. You have plenty of options at your disposal. You can be smaller and cute, you can be feminine, you can be more tall and powerful while still retaining beauty, you can be a huntress.

Guys? Have the option of being a Midget, or being a bulked body builder stereo type. Those are our two options. Midget, or bulk. Taru/Lalafell Midget, Hume? Bulky, Elvaan? Bulky, Galka? Bulky.

Women with masculine qualities, eh?

Where does one draw the line between a massive man-in-the-boat and a tiny shmekel??

Personally, I see nothing masculine about my silver-haired, pigtailed Elezen demo model beauty. She's all woman.

****, I may even make "Bozworth" look just like her so I don't have to look at a dude all the time. If elf girls have good magic stats, I'm sold.

Besides, we already know all of the character faces from FFXI are going to be in FFXIV, so you really have nothing to worry about. You're guaranteed at least a couple cute models to choose from.

The heck with more feminine, I just wish they looked more Elven. You know, beautiful, wispy, graceful. Right now they look just like how I've always thought the Elvaan look, which is horrifyingly snooty.

Well, in all fairness they should look snooty.

At least in the FFXI storyline. (and from what I am reading about FFXIV they should also look snooty)

I like the way the female Elezen look on the official website.

They look like someone who can hold their own and fight just as well as any guy.

I think SE has done a pretty good of not being too sexist, especially in their latest games.

When I think about the more recent FF games I see a pattern of strong female characters. Even if they aren't strong at the start of the game they become strong by the end.

I sort of dislike the "all men should be tall, muscular, and handsome" and "all women should be thin and dainty" approach that some games take.

I really like the female Elezen art because she looks feminine, yet fierce.

And as many folks have already mentioned there will be customization, hopefully with sliders, to give each player the ability to make their character look how they want.

First off, Pikko, I don't want to hear any slights against my future race from a person who thinks the pinnacle of awesomeness is cooking eggs with shaped yolks! I'm pretty sure that involves witchcraft of some sort. Bah, I'm jk you can make a **** of a bento. Tofu piano FTW!

(Edit: The following statements are intended for OP use only. If you are not the OP then do not read the following, or ninjas will track you down and force you to listen to Coldplay. If you like Coldplay none of your opinions are valid. Thank you.)

Secondly, I gotta say if you think the female Elezens don't look good your standards are too high as a man, and you should prepare to die sad and alone.

Thirdly, if you're gonna complain about any race it should be the Lala's because as we all know they're the evil offspring of squirrels and teletubbies.

Personally I think one of the reasons Elvaan females have remained the rarest character choice in FFXI is because they were _too_ feminine. Not so much their look but their animations always seemed like they were only giving 50% effort because they're afraid of scratching themselves or breaking a nail. I think the pic of the new female Elvaan (Elzan, Elzen, Elzar w/e!) looks great; Now I just need to see how they move and I might choose them this time around.

*shrug* I found the Elvann in XI to not be to my tastes as an "elf" race. The Elezen are a step in the right direction, but still pretty far off.

My main issue is with the obvious conection to fantasy Elves, if they had come up with a name that set them apart from the elven image it wouldn't bug me so much.

You want the elezen... which has no connection to traditional elves in the western sense... to look like some jacked up *****? It's times like these that i actually am glad SE doesn't give a **** what players think *sigh*.

I think the elezen look great except for the fact that they look exactly like elvaan. The sad part is that it seems the slight voluptousness they ONCE had in FFXI is gone now. No hips and no *******. In fact.. all the females in FFXIV seem to have been bitten my mosquitoes. How unfortunate.

Maybe female Roegadyn will be busty *hope hope pray wish*.

Hmm, I see the point, but I still hope that the customization is enough where two people of opposing likes can be Elezen and make their character either dainty and small or big and warrior-looking. THAT would be sweet and really, that's how it should be, don't you think?

I'm sure we'll see more "age" options as far as faces go at least. And honestly, short of them giving us several new races, I'd wager large money on them giving us a lot of customization on body type, likely to the point where we can create younger, almost child characters. Particularly if we don't get new races, they must surely be planning to make the old races customizable as ****.

Anyway, I'm prone to agree with more customization. I just wish it would cater more to the people who want to play as entirely different races than to the people who want their character to look a little different. Either way it's all about letting players make characters that they like.

In a way you hit right on my issues with them, it's not frailness vrs strength for me, it's the odd proportions and overstretched limbs that kept me away. That is why I felt the Elezen were a step better but still off, the hips and chest were better in line with the frame shown, but the gangly arms and streched features still just look goofy to me.

As I have stated in another thread, I didn't plan to play one anyway, I was just chiming in with my personal opinnion on the model SE is useing.

p.s. And no I don't think on cooky elves or shoe elves when I imagine elves in games, I tend to be more driven by the image of the Tuatha de Danann, though the Fomorians were techniquly elven too.

I'd love to have aion's customization engine in this game, the races in there are canonically human in appearance, but through custimization you can make you human look just like an elvaan, or have the build of a galka... with a little less bear in him though, still I would love that, you can customize everything from the size of your build down to the spacing between your eyes and the length of the bridge of your nose... and all inbetween

I really hope so, though i'm sure it won't be that great since SE would want to keep each race haveing their unique features. (i.e Roegadyn the muscular huge race, Huran the most human looking race)

I never understood what the elvaan F design was going for. Their bodies were bigger and heavier than the males, with very masculine features. However, their animations and mannerisms suggested that they were dainty, beautiful little things instead of the hulking, clumsy, bigfoot manbeasts that they actually looked like.

Sorry, but 40B-38-50 is not feminine.

Well excuse my assumption that someone with the word ~King~ in their name was male. I mean it's only a word used for male monarchs, but I suppose I was presumptuous. There could be any number of reasons King was chosen. Silly me for assuming a female wouldn't use a screen name with obvious masculine qualities. Next time I see someone with a name like "supermaleguyman" I'll remember to question the gender.

CommanderKing wrote:

No pixels are not real people, but they are clear representations of what could be real people. The notion that you would want the model to look more "pretty" to begin with automatically suggests that you find the model to not have a value of beauty you are looking for. You also gave an example of a model you found satisfactory.

Now, with that said, it doesn't take Stretch Armstrong to reach the obvious point here. The point is everyone, well at least most people, but even you see a level of beauty in the model. For, a male to say to another male (my thought at the time) that their expectation of the level of beauty (appeal/prettiness/whatthehellever) was too high based off their judgment of a model isn't a longshot. Armed with that knowledge it also isn't the largest leap to assume he would hold similar opinions of real people, and thereby people who are reasonably beautiful and potentially a partner.

We've already covered that my assumptions were incorrect, and thereby baseless, however so there's no need to discuss this any further. Toodels!

It's 'bad' enough XI/XIV has catgirls. ;p Variety, people! If you wanna play a cute teenager princess, there are two races for that already (three if you count lalafell). Elezen, to me, look like an improved version of the Elvaan. Elezen women look almost spot-on like I secretly wanted an FFXI graphic update to look like. ^^

Only thing I could whine about is the lack of ****, but that could just be the armor hiding everything. :p
