Do you think SE will be a normal MMO and let you make all the TOONS (take THAT, OmegaTyrant!!!) you want, or do you think they will still charge you $1 per TOON?

Will SE allow multiple characters?
I think they will finally let you make multiple. :34 (33.7%)
**** no. SE wants your money! $1 per character!:67 (66.3%)
Total:101

Obviously, this is pure speculation.

2 Votes so far... and one of the columns is at 100%.

Not to say which one I think is most likely...

Things look so different, maybe we can hope for things being the complete opposite of XI. Like for instance, at launch, we can just sneeze and we're logged in. No more 50 clicks to go into the game, woohoo!!

I believe they did mention they were going away from using the playonline service thing, which I though was just a waste of time and made things overly complicated.

I am hoping for the first, but this is SE so it would not surprice me if we have to pay 1$ for each new character.

i hope you wont need additional characters. in wow i hate that if you want to try a different job you have to start all over with a new character and do all the beginner quests once more. that sucks.

Depending on how fluid the Armory system is, it's likely that you won't need second characters (beyond muling needs). Therefore, I assume that they will happily charge $1 for extra characters.

Somewhere in between.

Maybe 3 or 4 characters per account for free. After that it would be extra money for more.

For some games it's 1 character for free per account. Any extra character is much more expensive than $1. (Looking at you Mabinogi!)

And that one character comes with very limited and basic traits. If you want more you need to buy a premium character card so you can fully customize them.

A lot of games allow for multiple characters per account, but only are few...not unlimited.

I would imagine that SE will be somewhere in between.

Max number of free characters per account is 3 or 4. Any more is going to cost you.

Why would anyone need more than that anyway? I only had one character on FFXI and never needed more, especially since a single character could do all of the jobs.

I'd say depending on the monthly cost of FFXIV, but to be fair FFXI (and FFXIV so far) are multi platform MMOs and they need a lot more money to maintain everything than ye standard PC only MMO. (especially when dealing with M$)

They did and I agree. I never understood when games led you through some weird pregame interface thing. Really the only thing they need is a log in screen.

But as for Content IDs I doubt they'll limit you to one character then slap on an extra fee of a buck for each additional one. However, it's very unlikely they will give you unlimited. So like others have said there would probably be a limit.

If SE takes the 1 char can do every job again I can definitely see them charging for extra chars again. Besides storage mules on FFXI there was really no reason to have extra chars since the 1 you make could play every job. Not like it was WoW where 1 char is locked into 1 job.

There will probably be an extra charge for additional charaters. Since one character can do every job you'll only need extras for mules. And if you have too many mules you must be RMT and you will be banned.

I'm not too sure what they will do. I always had a hunch that PlayOnline had some input into the decision for the cost of multiple Content IDs. I hope they don't charge though. I like to try out all aspects of a game, including characters.

I lol'd

But didn't Square Enix say they wanted better and more streamlined billing systems? I would guess this time around they will have learned their lesson, and to compete with other MMORPG's in that aspect will need to make additional characters free. It won't surprise me one bit if they aren't free though.

But maybe we will be able to make three characters without having to purchase more content ID's though? Who knows.

I would be happy if I could have just one extra character without having to pay, yeah it's only a dollar but I would rather it be a flat rate.

It is an interesting question. It costs SE about the same amount to have 1-4 characters per account as it does 50 characters per account. So there is no loss to them in providing plenty of slots, and there is a definite benefit to the player. It is quite obviously a bad decision to charge players for extra play slots. So the question is really "Do you think SE will be stupid?" IT's a very close bet, but I'm leaning towards optimism.

While the revenue streams may be handled by a different team than the game designers, I think such a small issue speaks for the overall philosophy behind management. If SE charges us for a few extra characters, then we know they're perfectly willing to make allow players to experience utterly pointless absurdity. It means they still haven't figured out what FFXI's biggest problem was and at best noticed the symptoms only.
