So, I am not as hip to all this FFXIV incoming info like you all (retired from FFXI years ago, and did not play for too long) but I am just curious as to your thoughts about the concept of having a "class" of crafters, and whether or not this will be captivating and engaging, like a combat class. I love crafting as much as any other bloke, but is it SE's intention to have a certain player consistently craft things, throughout the game, and that is all? I understand that there is going to be a great deal of flexibility, where players can jump from class to class, but surely there will ned to be an individual focus on a single class as you progress with your character.

So what do you think? Could it be fun logging on for an hour, playing in your garden, and logging off? Or am I simplifying this beyond SE's intentions?

Well, there's been a lot of talk about making these so-called "land" and "hand" activities into elaborate minigames, so I'd say the short answer to your question is yes, it could be fun.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

I'm really sure the way they deal with crafting will turn to a grind fest for FFXIV. I dunno how but i'm possitive it will be.

My channel with FFXI battle music and hard to find songs that were not even released on Original Soundtracks.

I also plan on uploading FFXIV music when the game is released.

So far Leeroy only crafts after combat. Therefore the only assumption I can make is that you'll be able to take a crafting path and combat path. And most likely there will be limits on both which have the seesaw effect.

I crafted more then leveled in FFXI. It was a blast. But you will need a high "level" character to obtain or rather survive the local mobs to obtain those materials at higher crafting levels.

Right now no other info has been presented to us. But so far SE has been feeding us without the knowledge of what the nutrition info is.

I don't think we'll be having complete crafter class> I think the crafting disciplines are more of a way for SOE to blend the traditinoal combat/leveling part of the game with crafting which has I think for a lot of peopl felt a bit seperate from the rest of the game.

Something like merging the 2 lives of you character.

It does seem weird that they are calling crafting, farming, and cooking a class. They only way they can be on the same level as a fighter is if they can be used in battle but I doubt that will happen.

I think we have too little information to speculate but if its even a little different from FFXI, I support it 100% :D

Someone has gone as far as suggesting that perhaps down the road you are a proud owner of a farm.. If that is the case, can have the equivalent for the Hand discipline. I guess we will see if they will elaborate more on that next week at Gamescom. We can only hope.

I like how they're adding quests for crafters and gatherers. It'll make the players feel like their crafting is having an impact on the world and storyline and not just affecting other players wallets.
