Like some people that learned from FFXI, I'll try to find a good money-making niche ASAP.

I'll prolly try to make some kind of hand-to-hand evade/parry tank a la Bruce Lee. And add some healing skills since I have limited time and will end up playing solo most of the time ...

I will be doing some craft but I'll probably start fighting first, either with a spear or something a bit more ninja/assassiny.

I will wake up at six a.m. again.
and I will find my way to the front door
like a soldier crawling through the smoking carnage.
smoldering bodies at my feet,
I'd love to stick around, but I've got someone to meet.
and I will put my best foot forward.
and I'll thank god I made it out of there
on the day when my new friends come.

I would still like to find out whether or not you will be able to cure while wielding a melee weapon if you have leveled your curing skill ...

There is really not enough information to decide at this point.

Hug'em with nuclear arms. Mage all the way. But I'm always willing to give all the jobs a try. Are they still called jobs? The main reason I tended to stick to mages was lack of space in FFXI. But from what I've been reading, it looks like we'll have a lot more space for job switching.
We are the BLU. Lower your shields and power down your weapons. You will be assimilated. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Resistance is futile

Far away, deep in the mountains of Ul'dah, live mountain clans of reclusive Roegadyn known as the Hellsguard, said to have mastered the magical arts."

(Galka - tail) + native magic = intriguing. This caught my attention early on, and coupled with a hint that a clan system might have more bearing on how you start the game than your actual avatar pick...hmmm.

Also, I've got to think, there might be gold in them thar hills...

Accept for maybe Bacon Mage, that one is on track. BCM.

Which reminds me. Now instead of a Bacon Lettuce Tarutaru, we'll have a Bacon Lalafell Tomato.

I kinda hated how Drk was the only job in FFXI that was viable to use GS as a DD but even then most people are like "Wtf! Use scythe!" since it was higher skill rated and overall more damage over time. I'm hoping the weapons are balanced a little better in this game because I'd love to have some kind of GS based DD.

I"m guessing with the armory system you have your melee armory, mage armory, and craft armory. Each of these can be furthered to some point.

I'll probably sink a lot into GS, then healing, then smithing or hervesting if the system works like I think it will.
