Actually not to impressed. I am hoping someone was playing that didn't know the controls cause the actions looked very sluggish. Also, not sure what the technical term is, but why is that giant chicken thing "inside" of the fighter?

Thanks for this!
I've been looking around for one, but you beat me to it!

I loved watching this, it looks great!

If that background is actually the draw distance and not just a parallax then this is great!

I guess that black disc in the lower right hand corner is a compass...

I have to say that I really like the UI and it looks unconventional for an MMORPG...definitely strayed away from the standard look.

I only hope that text box is shrinkable and filterable. It was scrolling pretty fast. Would also like to see some color/font customization to make it easier to read on different backgrounds without making it opaque.

Anyone else notice how the player was using a bow at one point and then a sword the next? He was also wearing different armor! I wonder if only the weapon affects your discipline or if armor plays a role as well? Would armor change when you change weapon?
So much left to be discovered!

Again, truly great find.
Hope to see more in the next few hours....

I should get to bed...work tomorrow!

i actually thought it looks just like every other modern MMO interface, i dont like it in that regard.

it also looks very point and clicky, how is that going to translate to PS3?

graphics are amazing.

it looks very WoWy in the sense that, when the player killed a dodo, it was all "dodo's killed 4/6" i really hope the gameplay isn't based off of "kill x amount of these" quests.

That's two different characters, a Hyur with a sword and an Elezen with a Bow. Also keep in mind that this is the ALPHA stage of the game and the video quality isn't the best, so far from the video the game looks like it's going to be stunning!

It's sluggish because:

A. Person is playing it for the first time
B. You can see Alpha issues ALL over the video: For example, the animations aren't full frames which is apparent in the attacking of the fighter.

So clearly this isn't a final version of the game at all.

Thanks for the video, it looks really cool :) Hope we get to see more the next couple of days.
The graphic is definitely better than I have seen in any other mmorpg.

Yeah as people say it's still just ALPHA testing, not the finished product.

I don't like the chat log interface in that position. I always like how on FFXI it kept a central position at the bottom of your screen. I don't like having it on one side or the other, it's like those cars that put the console in the middle of the dashboard. It's awkward and ends up a hassle.

Also, I'm really not digging the way the movement was looking. I don't like when I turn left or right in a game, for the camera not to turn to follow my angle. In FFXI it did, and this is something FFXI got right. So I hope they are using a certain option or some such. And I really hope to god they don't use the WoW style of Camera control, it gets too annoying and over complicated.

However, as people are saying, this is ALPHA testing. I believe Square Enix even said a lot of these things would be customizable once the game was released, not only that but in this stage of the game when it's still in Alpha, no one should judge it off anything but the graphics, which look absolutely stunning.

Also, gigantic chickens will devour your soul.

Exactly people need to realize that this game is not nearly finished. There are way more positives in the 1:23min video than negatives. The game is going to be great!!!

Just pointing out upon the characters first use of his "weapon skill" his tp bar drops from 3000 to 2500. That is slowly raised to 2514 and upon his second use, it drops to 2500 again. Anyone have an idea?

Nope, too hard to say because it could mean a lot of things.

Could be bugged since it's an Alpha build
Could have a certain cost per skill, which goes back to being an Alpha build thing
Could be a stamina gauge.

Etc.

That and it seems the crystal engine is fairly advanced, though an alpha stage of FFXIV, you can see a fair bit of advancement.

I commented on the Puks too, but I think it's just because it's early production stuff, I mean, if FFXI had at least 3 attack animations for most enemies, they can manage it on FFXIV.

Yeah, I think we're seeing everything in "Simplified" mode. I mean, features like not being in auto-engage mode at all times, having the camera follow your direction, mobs only having one attack animation... I really hope and pray that it's just because of Alpha and they are still working on that stuff...

One interesting thing to note in the Puk video is that a teleportation 'spire' appears to teleport you back to the outpost after the player defeated the final Puk he had to kill. If you can start a leve at the outpost and then get teleported back after completing it, it could save a lot of unneeded travel time. :D

The game looks disturbingly similar to FFXI, which is quite frightening. The combat also appears to be incredibly slow. From the sowrdman's first hit on the chicken he waits 6 seconds before using what seems to be a special skill, then 12 seconds before attack again, and finally another 6 seconds until he hits the mob again.

Im actually extremely glad that SE skipped the fastpaced gamestyle that WoW has.
This due to that lag will destory your gameplay if its to fastpaced since servers are placed in Japan. This kind of combat allows for player to have a smooth gameplay even though your ping might reach 1000ms. In comparison if you ask WoW players they start to complain when their latency reaches over 100ms and start saying that it is affecting their gameplay.

I salute SE for taking the latency issue seriously and made the combat system really slow.

Nah Its not even that.
Square did the wrong think by making random people play the game while they were going over gameplay.
The Person that was playing during the general overview of the combat system was not auto attacking, Just useing the 3 skills you start with before u open yur next tier.

I was very scared as well lol <3

Actually there is one thing you miss here. Where in the Alpha stage is SE ?
They have been deadly secret that we don't know anything at all. For all we know this could be the final stage of the alpha and they are in the works of a beta announcement at TGS. Basically 99% finished alpha if you want to call it.

Basicly your weapon speed is your auto attack but unlike XI its alot faster pace.
Plus from what we just heard there are tons of skills that open up after you use the 1st tier ones.

Exactly, which means what we're seeing is indicative of the final product. The changes you're going to see from alpha to final version are bug fixes, content development, and balance changes. What you're probably not going to see are fundamental game play changes. Alphas are incomplete products, they aren't unrelated products.
Mistress Theonehio wrote:

But there was an attacking animation. How did you not see it?

I am hoping I missed something, and that I am mistaken.

This is a scaled back build of alpha. It was likely compiled especially for Gamescom. Just to give a hint at gameplay mechanics. Do not believe everything you see.

I can't be the only one who's just happy to see live gameplay footage. It's better then what we had before today!

Yes it was stated on the show floor its not the full alpha. Its parts of type 07 Rapture.
Just for showing Gameplay and even an unfinished UI.
