I think it depends on which action you perform.

Soft blow, quick. Hard blow, slower.
Something like this.

What's up with all the whining about the graphics? Correct me if I'm wrong, but are we not watching videos from most likely a mid-level consumer video camera of a pre-Beta game being displayed on a screen inside a poorly lighted convention hall? Honestly folks lighten up.

You are totally right. When you sit behind the game, it looks VERY good.

Is it just me, or do the Lalafells look a little too much like this?

No, because I do not fear Lalafells for the rest of my life now.

The warrior character seemed a bit slow...I hope that the action would pick up in the final versions...Buuut I havn't played FFXI in a few months (Dang 3D Secured credit cards ^~^) so maybe the time for his attacks is the same to FFXI's warriors. Can't remember.

My only real beef with this is the fact that the battle speed seems to be equally slow as FFXI. But since I don't know how many hit's it takes per mob I can't worry too much at this point. But I despised waiting 4 seconds to swing, only to see "Miss". Other then that I think it looks great graphically. Id like to see a lot more gameplay footage.

I found this video on youtube. 8 mins. playthrough. It shows magic being cast. If you look at the staff it will produce an aura then the mobs will get hit by the spell.

Enjoy.

Thanks, I haven't seen this one before.

The magic looks okay so far, I can't really complain or praise yet.

It looks like magic casting can still be interrupted...a good thing in my book. Makes it more challenging.

One thing that I like from watching all of these videos is character movement, especially while running. I think, especially for an alpha build, that it's very realistic (at least for the Hyur). The character's slow down to a stop instead of doing so immediately. They tilt to one side and bend their legs depending on which direction they are turning. I think that was very well done. It looks pretty smooth and I'm pleased.

The Lalafell definitely do run funny, as someone mentioned before.
And the Elezen seem to have very tiny torsos and very very long legs. I don't remember it being so prominent in FFXI, but I might not remember correctly.

I also found it kinda weird that I haven't seen any videos of Miqo'te or Roegadyn....

So what's with the teleportation thing? Does it take you to the next area or what? I couldn't really understand how they worked.

I think that they said that this was something that they implemented only for the Gamescom demo.

It was so that players could teleport back to a town (or outpost is what it seemed like) after their quest was over.

I would imagine that when the game is open to the public these will only exist in instanced areas (if that) so that players are provided a quick escape route once their quest is done.

I laughed at the mob running away from him right when it got next to it. Good old final fantasy.
