Don't see this posted as it's own topic yet, and a friend just sent it to me so.

http://news.dengeki.com/elem/000/000/187/187560/

Looks like Dengaki has some new information up, new pictures first and foremost.

Would greatly appreciate any translations anyone can do until the almighty Elmer gets his hands on it.

Yeah just posted in the video thread. what I can tell from it, looking at the four human characters is that they arent actually classes but retainers for them a HTH grapple retainer, a loyal bow retainer, and a loyal axe retainer. The bard/thf/rng looking char with feathers in his hat is a clothcrafter/needleworker.

Looks like an automaton at the bottom but I.... have no clue about the english japanese equivalent of the words.

It could be a mob, or a quest npc or something. It could even be a game element that we are totally sure of, or how it will work, possibly some kind of little helper... But...

If I had to bet money on it, yeah. I'd say that's most certainly an automaton, and that the chances of seeing Puppetmaster, or a Puppetmaster like discipline have risen.

Yeah THAT is how an evil eye is supposed to look, ala FFT. Also the amount of detail on eye showing the shine of skin/slime is amazing. On the morbal the saliva rolling from upper to lower jaw is streaming.

Thank you Ryn~!

EDIT: thanks for ryn

Yeah it's true that it's not necessarily a puppetmaster, and I seem to remember at least during ToAU that automatons were a bit of a gimmick used by SE because they were cuteish, so it might well be some type of guard-robot or something.

Also, if PUP was like it was in 11, im not sure I'd want it in 14 anyway, they didn't do the best job of it originally..

EDIT: Hey don't default me for saying that! I'm not saying PUP sucked, I said it wasnt implemented as well as I'd have liked, i still levelled it to 75 on 2 characters because it was fun!

I hope to God they pick competent voice actors. A bad or annoying voice can completely destroy a character.

I'd almost hoped they'd stay mostly with the text.

The text just summarizes the game and then talks about the demo playable at gamescom, but here are the captions for you:

Grappler, Archer
Axeman, Tailor
Ahriman, Ogre, Malboro
Cactuar (Sabotender), Mammet

Oh, and that guild leve says you get 2000 gil and a hi-potion for defeating 6 dodos and 3 puks. It's from a Limsa Lominsa area.

The katakana for the automaton looking little guy Reads as MAMETTO so it can't be an automaton since the katakana for automaton is OTTOMATON.

Tho the possibility it was just renamed exists.

It makes me wonder if SE will include skills for Necromancy since thats what they originally were devising before they ended up with PUP.

Well they stated in one of the interviews that there are no pet classes, so the auto has got to be either completely an NPC, or perhaps a companion of some sort that's not class based.

But you have no idea what 2000 gil is really worth in FFXIV compared to 200 gil, and you have no idea if a hi potion is any more useful than a fire crystal.

True, unfortunately. Guess we'll have to wait and see how hard it is to get the leaping boot/emp hairpin equivalents, lol. With everyone starting at the same time, the FFXI camping system will either go the way of the dodo(hopefully), or get a whole lot more intense (Read: Standing in the same spot much, much longer).

Back on topic: That marlboro is adorable. <3

Edit: Bad grammar.

The pictures are stunning. I really love the style...much better than the other MMORPGs out there.
I suppose that is in part due to less limitations in terms of hardware.

I really can't wait to play this game! I love the detail they put into the world and characters.

I really like the work that is being put on the animations. Like the animation for when you stop running. Reminds me of Uncharted. I hope you can climb little steps like drake does. If you stop mid step, where one of your feet is on one step and the other in the next one, your character has one knee bent to make up for the height. That would really freaking rock!

I just translated this four posts before yours. It's "mammet." And automaton is "オートマトン" not "オットマトン."

Sorry, I just translated the class names and not the equipment after the colon. They say "Grappler: weapon (baghnakhs) equipped," "Archer: bow (shortbow) equipped," "Axeman: axe (bhuj) equipped," and "Tailor: sewing tools (needle) equipped."

Your interpretation seems a little off. You become an "archer" by equipping a bow and using bow skills. You become an "axeman" by equipping an axe and using axe skills. The names given, shortbow and bhuj, are just examples of things you would equip to get access to those skills.

I believe he was implying that the shortbow and longbow each bestow different kinds of abilities.

Ex: Short Bow abilities would be more akin to 'Archer' in FFT whereas the 'Long Bow' might be associated with 'Ranger' abilities.

Oh, I see what you're getting at. I was thinking that since the names are in parentheses that they're just giving a sort of example of specific equipment. Like you equip a bow ("shortbow" seen in the picture) to become an archer.

It would be interesting if you could learn different abilities from short and long bows and then use some of them with the other equipped. Who knows at this point though, right?

Haven't read the whole topic, but regarding the pictures of the "automaton" and all other Artworks of former/future enemies etc.

They were all said to be future ENEMIES in FFXIV, including the automaton look a like.
That's based on being there at the presentation, so I guess the information is pretty confirmable^^

Some of those foliage texture/clip maps are taken straight from FFXI. Also the skybox in the image third row down third from left uses the same method FFXI uses to do a distant horizon.

Also, no FSAA.
