Is it confirmed or just a wish?

And yes...no zoning would be awesome.

Don't forget that while the world might be seamless, we'll still be teleporting around to quest locations, and there will also be instanced content.

Hopefully this will be some indication of just how big this world is going to be.
If wow's any indication, than seamless + teleports and public transportation to get around = huge, easy to get yourself lost in world.

Here's to hoping, anyways. SE's known for their beautiful world creation, so I'm excited to see the results.

How large will the in-game world of Eorzea be in comparison to the in-game world of Vana'Diel? As in actual space the characters may move around in.

We can't really compare to the current world of Vana'Diel since it's been expanding a lot. But if we compare to the original Vana'Diel, this time it may be the same or slightly smaller, however as you can see there will be a much more detailed world, in terms of graphics and content. So it's unlikely you will notice that it might be slightly smaller than the original Vana'Diel world.

One thing to note is that FFXI used its own system, this time Final Fantasy XIV is going to be seamless. No zoning! Just like in World of Warcraft.

You'll be able to walk from the city to the battlefield without any zoning.

Personally, I think instanced content was the way to go. Set up your party, and enjoy a little quest designed just for you. I feel it makes the game more immersive, and allows players to progress any way they wish.

Eh, I doubt anyone will notice it being smaller, unless is either really small they incorporate a lot invisible wall madness. Only place this was prevalent in 11 was on the beaches though, so I'm assuming if they do make detailed use of it, it'll mostly only be in the instanced zones. That being said, they still have us pondering swimming and jumping, if only just in triggered locations, so who knows.

All just ends up as speculation until people can log in and actually walk around anyways. We can still hope though!

It's called guards...every MMO without zones does it. Plus most MMOs have a radius that a mob chases you until it gives up.

Or the mobs could be "leashed". Basically they stop chasing after a certain distance and sprint back to their original area. Honestly though its kind of obvious that they would have a seamless world since basically all other MMOs do it...

How will the story be told? Powerful story is an essential part of the FF-series, and as far as the producers have said it will be important in XIV as well.

Yes the story is defiantly very important for FF14. We will have high quality cutscenes with voiceovers and fx, please look forward to it.

There will also be voiceovers on mostly every character/npc in the game.

That's great there will not be any zones, it'll feel more like your in a giant world and didn't see this comming^. Smiley: eek

Yes, we're planning several things so you can enjoy the game, for example the fishing you mention will be a class. But outside of the class system there will be other things to do. For example during FFXI players figured out a way to invent a new game by using the existing system. So that's going to be interesting, we'd like to do that for FFXIV as well. So we're looking forward to what the players will do with our system there.

Now, I instantly thought of the shout casinos. What did I miss?

Tetra Master was a really cool game and I hope they are adding it (or something like it) as one of the casual games we can play.

I know it's still too early to consider, but I'm still wondering about a Talent/Merit system to set your character apart. Surely, it has crossed their minds.

Not always true.
Perfect World is a popular MMORPG that does not have zones and, while it does have gaurds, the gaurds do not prevent monsters from coming into towns. Only players with negative PK karma.

For fun players sometimes bring high levels mobs with AoE attacks into the center of the main city where everyone sets up their shops. One hit and hundreds of dead people.

However, hopefully FFXIV will have gaurds to prevent monsters from getting into towns or something like

this.

Even though mobs are sometimes leashed, a player can often hit it one more time to retain aggro and the mob's distance will reset so it will chase the player even farther.

Hopefully SE figures this out and doesn't let it happen.

Anyway, a world without zones is something I have always dreamed of. No more parallax backgrounds or still-life!

From the video at Gamescom it looks like you can see really far. I hope it's like Oblivion where you can stand on a mountain at the edge of the map and still see the Imperial City miles and miles away.

In that video showed, it looked as though even jumping great distances was instant. So there won't even be load times for instanced things!

Perfect World is F2P...for the most part I don't include F2P games in the ranks of MMO generalizations since they operate by a completely different set of rules than P2P games. That may change some point in the future but as it stands that's the way I see it.

When I see 'No zoning' my mind clicks to 2D fighters, loltoomuchMVC2

I am all for the seemlessness. It didn't make a difference to me either way, but I do hope there is at least a bit of leeway for MPK. Not that I am one that does it purposely, but it does add a lot to the experience for me. The extra stress of nubs training bats to your experience spot and having to decide to run or handle adds was an enjoyable challenge and usually ended up in LAWL (and sometimes some anger, because of slower exp).
I was one of the people that didn't appreciate that Monster Disappearing After Zone Patch~

And before anyone complains that he said the world might be similar in size or slightly smaller than current Vanadiel, consider how small the world was when FFXI was first released. Through release of new content the world has expanded two or three times over, so if Eorzea is really around that size to start then it would be pretty amazing.

Really?
I've played several FP2 games and P2P games and there is really only one difference that I've noticed between them:

Microtransactions (Item Malls/Shops/etc).

Otherwise FP2 and P2P games are similar enough that they're grouped together into the same MMORPG category. From the ones I've played, I can say that only one of them (Mabinogi) operated very differently from most P2P games.

There are some poor quality F2P games but there are also some really stunning ones.

Regardless of microtransactions and whatnot, having a guard attack a monster coming into town really shouldn't be that hard. If you can make a guard attack a player coming into town I don't see any reason why the guard can't attack a monster.
The creators either didn't foresee it happening or chose not to make guards attack monsters. They will, however, attack a player's pet if the player has negative karma.

There were many Summons in FFXI, but for an online world, I never felt there were enough. What Summons can we expect to see in FFXIV and will there be more variety than in FFXI?

We can't really mention which summons will be in. But what we can say is that some is going to be really important in the storyline. It's not going to be included in the game like FFXI. At the moment we don't really have a class, a pet class / summoner. Not at the moment at least. So it will be implemented in the game in a different way. Please check back with us in the future.

i am not impress lets hope they add summoner for the lover of evrything unholy.
and i want my dragoon with pet

an about world size they said

Summoning classes are among the hardest to *properly* balance. I'd bet that they release them eventually, but want to make sure the other classes are fairly balanced before tackling a summoning class.

Besides they can always add more places with expansions, no big deal. Yeh, it seems the content is going to be much greater.
