I had a thought on the way armor might work. I remember reading that Weapons will effect "Outward Appearance". Then i remember reading "There are no jobs, just classes. So whats the difference? Well it seems to me a "Job" is something that cannot be altered. For example A Paladin in FFXI was a tank, nothing more. you gain abilities that cannot be altered in any way. Defender, shield bash... etc. Now you can try to alter your gear and be a DD,but you werent going to get to many parties shouting Paladin DD. Paladin might not exist in FFXIV. There is however a warrior class, which in turn you can perhaps equip with White magic to create a Paladin style class. And on the flip side equip with BLM to create a Dark Knight.

Now getting to my main theory on Armor. How many times in FFXI could you not tell what job someone was just by looking at them. I had a whole party once in the dunes wearing brass armor all looking the same. What if equipping a Certain weapon changed the look of that brass armor. For example you equip a bow, and your brass armor now takes on the looks of a Rangers outfit. Maybe Green cloak with brass metal clips, and brass leggings. Change to HTH weapon and now your brass armor looks like armor with cotton padding. Something protective, yet flexible enough to be agile. Sword would be straight Brass armor as we all know it. This would allow quite a bit of diversity,no more look-alikes and would distinguish the different role you decide to play. Let me know what you think of this theory along with some ideas or theories of your own

sorry but i don't like it <.<

first, i think you're wrong about the jobs in ff11. subjob allow exactly what you said(it just don't works for magic due to low skill), the proof is that you think defender is a pld ability while it comes from it's /war.

second... the energy stored in a weapon to modify the armor on the molecular level would most likely destroy the person who weild it :x
no, seriously, it would mean SE should do x class * 5 races * y armor models... i assure yu it won't happens

My Bad on the defender... I was always Pld/war... never anything else, so it was always apart of me. I'm just curious on how you would explain the quote of "Weapon changes outward appearance" If you have a theory please let me know.. im not saying mine is correct.. just like to hear other possibilities.

I think the appearance will also change with the skill level of the weapon equiped. A shortsword at a low level may show one type of armor for a Hume for example, but that same Hume with a much higher skill level will look completely different. At least I hope so. If I play a healer type class I don't want to look like ever other WHM out there. It'll be like an incredibly bad toga party.

If this is true, changing weapon indeed changes outward appearance.

Just delivering a message, I can't vouch for it's legitimacy though

Ah, if I remember reading correctly didn't they say that it was the combination of weapon and armor that determined your class? Like after putting on the weapon and having the armor attached to it, your class was determined. Basically I'm thinking that you can preset your armor onto a weapon so that it's easier to change on the go but without the proper armor types you won't be able to tap into said discipline's class.

I wouldn't like this.
I want FFXI's and all the other Final Fantasy's method of armor only changing when something else is equipped to that armor's slot.
