The most fun I've had in FFXI was in teaming up w/ a whole bunch of other players to take down some huge, powerful HNMs/ Gods. I hope something similar to this will be found in XIV, but so far I don't get the feeling they're looking for massive group stuff like that. Anyone else hoping for some awesome endgame content, thoughts / opinions?

it wouldnt be much of an MMO without large-scale endgame content, especially since they said they would take the FFXI route and focus almsot soley on PVE.

and it wouldnt be much of a FF game without huge scary hard bosses to take down.

im not worried

According to one of the intervjus there won't be any real end game at first realease, it will come after a contentpatch or expansion.

Thats how many games go, though. There may be a few encounters, but they will worry about endgame after the game is released.

And the players who rush to the cap in few weeks will become bored and ragequit.. yep, I predicted it. (I wouldn't blame the devs for that though)

I didn't mean to sound as if rushing to endgame was a prominent plan, but it's just an activity that I usually look forward to.

At this point I'm assuming that end game will be part of the leves, and that teams will be able to complete the higher level ones for nice rewards. At least that's my hypothesis for the endgame in XIV.

In all the MMOs I've encountered in my time playing the genre, endgame is the area with the least difference between them. While MMOs have come up with many different ideas about the economy, advancement, party mechanics, PVP , crafting, transportation, ect... they all end up with large scale battles for rare gear at the end of the day.

Chances are, if you've ever played any MMO out there, then you already know the kind of content to expect with the endgame of FFXIV.

That's one thing I liked about FFXI. Story missions were a deviation for endgame. Rather than fight a challenging monster for a piece of gear, you fought challenging battles and were rewarded with progressing the story. I hope there are more of these elements present in XIV.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

I'm sure that there will be plenty of endgame HNM mobs in time...there was a time when FFXI only had a few dragons as the main HNM's (Bune, Vrtra, etc anyone?) I do feel that the new guild leve system will be how most HNM's are processed, but I hope there will be a host of large scale events in the open world as well.

You're right and I absolutely agree the Story Missions were my favorite content in XI by a long shot, and not something you find in a number of other MMOs. I never really thought about them in the context of "end game" because many missions didn't require a character to reach max level to achieve. Also, aside from helping others through the story, you usually didn't see people going through the fights again and again.

The stories were more like precious "events" in your character's career. Something to enjoy thoroughly in your time through, but at the end the time spent on them was far less than the time you'd spend in the content you unlocked after completing the missions. And then you were back to good old endgame grinding.

Not to understate the importance of the Story Missions. Thinking about them after you brought them up makes me realize that it's that content that makes me more excited for XIV than anything else. My time getting through the CoP missions is probably my favorite and most memorable time playing any game of any type, ever. If XIV can give me an experience to that standard, then it will be well worth the wait.

After leaving ffxi (NOT of my own choice) and moving to WoW for the past few years, I can tell you what I want to see endgame:

#1- Keep some endgame areas as rewards for completing the missions (i.e sky/sea). It ensures that bad players can't pollute endgame.

#2- Keep the majority of it world-based rather than instance-based. My best ffxi memories ever were HNM camping. On WoW EVERYTHING endgame is instanced, and it's terribly boring.

#3- Keep the droprate on most things low. On WoW you've got uber gear that has a 40% drop rate+, with everyone and their mother running around with it. Contrast that to FFXI where it was actually HARD to get gear, and it felt like you'd actually accomplished something after getting it.

I agree with points one and two but 3 not so much. While a 40% drop rate seems to high to me having it to low can ruin the game for some people. One of the things that lead me to quiting was the fact that some things in FF XI had such a low drop rate that I knew it would take me forever to get and I just gave up on it. If they can manage to come somewhere in between the drop rates of FF XI and WOW then it would be perfect.
