Personally, I can't wait till we see the final UI within the screenshots instead; as I don't like the one that's in those screenshots at all.

The draw distance doesn't look that great, but maybe it's just the flat terrian.

The devs said that the drawdistance is set to be low just to make sure that the game runs smoothly (they haven't fully optimized it yet, so there's still much to improve graphically).

I saw that on the hotbar #3, it looks like it was assigned to a shield. Does that mean that the new game will have active shield blocking?

Oh good, I missed that. Thanks!

Hopefully these aren't the final textures, because I don't think they look that great. Specifically, the rocks.. they look sort of stretched or something.

The concept art could've just been drawn unnofically and claimed to be of SE's work, but the screens look good.

I think you can trust Dengeki on that one.

I'm sorry, I have been seeing comments like this so much. Nothing against you ShadowWalker, but I mean its stated that its in alpha stage... look at any mmo or game in "alpha" stage and it looks completely different than the finished product. People complaining about the UI or the graphics or some other detail. Take it as not finished. Of coarse these graphics are not finalized nor is the UI. But for it being in alpha it looks amazing and to imagine what the finished product will look like I'm sure it will be nothing less than breath taking.

I do not mean to cause any problems but i mean lets wait till beta at least before we say "I hope this isn't going to be the final product" since by then that would probably be the final product.

Those pics look great and so do the monsters. The monsters looks evil like they should lol.

No worries about the texture, man. Appearance is not what they're aiming to please right now (though they've got a habit of pleasing it anyways). This game is still in its Alpha stage - many of its graphics are just placeholder images right now. And I'd guess that only about 1/4 of the animations are in right now (not to say that's all they have, but it's all they need for it to look legitimate).

Also, at Gamescom they were showcasing Guildleves. After they iron out all the gameplay mechanics, abilities, level designs, etc. THEN they will most likely showcase what a powerhouse this game can be.

But for now, placeholders.

Placeholder UIs, textures, and models are typical of any game in its alpha or beta stage, or in the development pipeline.

Honestly, this is the prettiest alpha I've ever seen.

I totally agree. The only scuff I have is with the animations, but being as it's alpha I really didn't expect too much (****, the running animations blew me away for an alpha screening, haha).

Yes, I realize what the idea of an alpha version is. However, I question the benefits of "HQ" screenshots when... we aren't seeing anything similar to what we'll be playing in. Why not show us the 3D wire mesh version of the landscape? It's nice to see how it's coming along, though.

that is something similar to what we will be playing in. its just not finished. If they put a wire mesh in the clips or screen shots don't you think we would have so much more complaints about it?

And also, I believe they're using the term "high quality" as in resolution - i.e. Not from a shaky cam. I mean I could be wrong but that's how I took it.

Yeh, I meant they're just nice screenshots, nothing specific. lol

I'm sure the final product would look better or similar, in game.

Actually, what I'm worried about is the very fact that this is "the prettiest Alpha I've ever seen". I trust SE not to be lazy in their game production. But the scenery looks very good, not great, but very good, and I'm actually somewhat afraid of a high level executive saying "well that looks good enough to me, sell it". I almost would have preferred an ugly alpha, so we know (and I mean absolutely know, not "well almost certainly") that it will look better by the end.

Haha, kind of like a "too good to be true" syndrome (I've had bad luck with those type of things recently - they ARE too good to be true). But I have high hopes for this one - as talented as SE is, I don't think they're any exception to general flow of phases behind game design.

But you definitely raise a valid point.

Considering how much pride SE takes in making their games look absolutely beautiful, I honestly don't really think that'll be much of an issue.

Also one of the developers mentioned in an interview that draw distance and the MIPmapping clipping plane were at very low settings in the playable alpha, which lowered the detail of the background considerably.
