FFXIV Core is seeking a Japanese translator that has a great deal of interest in FFXIV, will translate often when requested, will be willing to cruise Japanese FFXIV fansites and is excellent at formating, please let me know. Or you may drop a line to Zyuu on the FFXIV Core boards. Much obliged ahead of time!

So in other words, you're looking for someone that's not going to take all of Elmer's hard work and try to pass it off as your own?

FYI: Changing Elmer's article writing/interpretation to direct quotes doesn't mean that's literally what Sage Sundi or Tanaka said. It only exposes you as content thieves.

Uhm no.. We give credit where it originated from. For example

http://www.ffxivcore.com/index.php?/topic/646-4gamer-interview-with-tanaka-and-sundi/page__gopid__8317&#entry8317

That is credited to 4Gamer. Have anything else you would like to add? Please advise as to what articles are you referencing that we have not given proper credit so we may remedy that. Thank you!

I followed the link provided, and have been bouncing around to some of the different fan sites as well. I would have to say after reading the evidence Elmer has provided, the plagiarism is fairly obvious. I think its a shame that things are starting to get ugly over this, but if I have to stand behind anyone its the Admins here at ZAM.

I am a student, and all I have to say is that plagiarism is serious business. My college is very strict on this issue. They are pretty laid back on a lot of issues, but you can get kicked out of the school for plagiarism. There is no first warning, you do it and you are gone. I know the internet is a bit loose on some of the legality, but in the business world it would be grounds for a law suite. I think at this point FFXIVCore should do some damage control ASAP. Admit the wrong doing, get rid of the phoney, eliminate the plagiarized materials, and extend a public appology before they do irreparable damage to themselves (assuming it is not too late). However, I will never visit their site again.

I would also like to add that a couple of the Admins on staff here are good friends of mine. I also know them to be good people (Pikko, Thayos). I like this community overall, and I like the articles here. No kissing of developers' asses either. If their is an issue, they bring them to task.

Lastly, I just want to make sure that Elmer knows how much many of us love the addtional content he brings to this site. It took courage for him to stand up against this plagiarism against his hard work, and I applaud him for that. On a more personal note: I have been thrilled since Elmer became an Admin here, and I feel like a kid at christmas when I am able to get access to the translated Japanese media contenet he provides for us. Keep up the awesome work ZAM Admins.

This seems like a good opportunity to thank Elmer for all the great work he does getting Japanese media to us outside of Asia. And to thank Zam for being a hub in the Final Fantasy Online community for so many years.

FFXIVCore's been good, great even with the lead content at Gamescom - but the using this forum as an ad base and now it seems a content base is not cool. Allakhazam would be more then happy to sell you ad space ;)

Oh, this is epic. I don't want to miss a thing.

In the face of Elmer's line-by-line comparison, the guy's denial on Bluegartr is audacious to a degree that's just plain surreal. I fear we will all be crushed under the weight of this guy's massive, clueless balls.

I mean, he never would have gotten away with this considering he was working from structured articles rather than direct translations, but he could at least have left himself a little room for deniability. Changing the perspective from third to first just doesn't do the job.

I marvel at the thought process that led him to believe this was ever going to work out. Or maybe he never believed. I picture him taking a big swig of rum and shouting ********** it! For the glory!" at each step further down the rabbit hole.

At first I thought FFXIVCORE was going to be a nice alternative page for 14 news and have exclusives like ZAM and other premiere sites, but ****, it seems someone over there is either going to be completely chewed out/kicked out, or that site is no longer credible. Ah oh well.

As mentioned in the link Elmer posted, we've had this problem at Eorzeapedia as well. Most of it lately really seems to be with Elmer's work when it comes to FFXIVCore. There are other sites out there trying to build a name for themselves that are doing it too.

For people that are curious but don't speak Japanese, a good example would be to compare the things Elmer and I write. We are working off the same source material but our translations are never so close as the ones Elmer's pointed out. Elmer and I even work together at times to discuss things from the source material and even after that, it doesn't get so close. We both have our own styles of writing.

There is nothing wrong with having lots of community sites. However, I'd hate to see people support a site that continually rips off other people's work and pretends it is their own. Not only does it get ripped off, but there are so many mistakes and mistranslations made in the process, it makes my head hurt as we have to go back and put out wildfires from people wondering why the translations are different.

This will sound like bragging, but Elmer and I have been around for awhile now. We know our stuff. I personally don't mind if people use it or quote it accurately on other sites so long as they link back properly and don't claim it as their own work, unlike the people at FFXIVCore have done many times on their twitter account.

I hope this issue can be resolved quickly and doesn't happen again in the future. There is plenty of room in our community for sites that help build the community, provide original content, and know how to work with other sites to work on a common goal.

Actually, some of us are kind of curious about something. Zyuu, who runs FFXIVCore, has basically disavowed any knowledge of who you are. You posted recruitment threads on multiple forums and sound like you are a staff member, but he says you are just a "random user." Is that true?

You are telling me you wouldn't volunteer to help add more to the community if you really thought that the community was great? I do not need to receive compensation for doing something I think is right in light of that. <shrug>

I think it's because the way you go about things you're passing yourself off as a staff member, which then makes FFXIVcore look bad, which isn't a bad site at all and ran by someone very friendly who, as far as I remember, brought out the first news of FFXIV from Gamescom.

I put in 8 years as a Managing Editor at Stratics as well as various other positions with Curse (WAR Alliance), Warcry and IGN/Vault Network.

There is a right way and a wrong way to volunteer your services. You know the best part about this if you are not a member of the FFXIVCore staff? You are speaking on their behalf without permission to do so. That's almost as bad as stealing Elmers stuff - boy, I do love me some irony.

To update folks, they've fired the translator that was doing the JP media translations for them.

They said they got rid of the translator who copied and will redo the articles, removing the ones taken from ZAM. Also, they didn't have any knowledge of users posting ads across other community sites. They took the time to discuss the matter with me at length, so I'll extend them my trust and finish up the thread.

Also, thanks to people who supported me in this thread. I'm glad to hear you enjoy reading the content I bring to ZAM :D I'm hoping next month, which will cap off with Tokyo Game Show, will be a lot of fun, so I'll keep the info coming.
