Some pics from gamesradar that I haven't seen before, so some people here may not have either. Sorry if they've been posted already.

These photos are starting to annoy me. I keep waiting to see something different from XI but I keep seeing the same. Area that looks like La Thiene, Cactuar that looks like XI Cactuar, Puppet that looks like a a PUP pet, Ahriman that looks like XI's Ahriman, Job that looks like Monk with knuckles, Job that looks like Warrior...

I get that these are basic RPG starter jobs but for God's sake! Design something different! Go back to VII/VIII etc style Cactuar! They rocked!

You mean the FFXIV Ahriman looks like the ones from FFIX, the cactaurs look like the one from classic though different, the Malboros look like the more classic ones from FFVII/IX.

There obviously will be similarities being an RPG AND MMO.

You know, i don't mind that they are so much familiar. They can keep the ffxi style in the game; i wouldn't want it any other way. I'm sure they will be expanding on the content from xi so no need to get worried.

Yeah, they have been posted before, but that will not be the topic of this post.

Just because FFIV and FFVI had world maps, didn't mean that they were similar games. You're looking into two games made by the same company, in the same 'series' even. Not that you don't have the right to have opinions and concerns...

Well, if it makes any difference, it's by the seaside. Using Cape Riverne or Misareaux Coast is probably a better example. Honestly though, it's a beginner area outside of a major city. I happen to think it's quite beautiful and realistic.

It's easy to make some ridiculous environment that nobody has seen before. To make it realistic is, in my opinion, an achievement. It's what makes Al'taieu, in some ways, a far more interesting place. Being exposed to a world that is deceptively normal, when the strange enters, it becomes far stranger than a world that was odd and disproportionate to begin with.

Say what you will about them, but at least they kept a similar posture in the pics rather than FFXI's. But, that could be a "anything is closer to the classic cactuar than FFXI's" kind of comment.

If it's any consolation, that's an enemy. You'll be able to kill it.

All Ahriman look alike. At least in this case, it is looking a bit more like the classic final fantasy standard.

Fact of the matter is, I'm going to be a bit biased. I've never been disappointed with SE's major titles when it comes to interesting landscapes. They know how to work with the subtleties. I have faith, and maybe you don't. Maybe you'll need hard evidence of a really interesting area. Or maybe your standards are in some place mine aren't.

Whatever the case, the game is still more than a year away, I'd guess. Do what you will with the information. Personally, I think Aion looks exactly like Warhammer looks exactly like WoW. Everyone these days is playing with heavy, wild fantasy. It's a style. I just happen to enjoy a world I can relate with more. FFXIV seems to be going in that direction, and I couldn't be happier.

Different strokes for different folks...

Couldn't agree with you any more BlackRagnarok^^

Different MMOs are for different type of players. WoW is like the all-mighty for everyone MMO. Warhammer is more based on PvP, Aion is PvPvE with more realistic/anime like styles and probably the more comic look is what attracts many WoW players. At the end its all a matter of personal preferences.

FFXI was really annoying at the time I quit, still it was far better til then, then WoW or Aion has ever been for me.

FFXIV is going into the FFXI direction again, which IMO is only logical, SE is not trying to get other MMOs down, they want to keep and satisfy their "traditional" fanbase, as well as get as much new people as possible, with the focus on the traditional players.

I count myself a lot into the "traditional" fanbase and I am more than pleased for now with how FFXIV looks like^^

Can't wait for TGS to show more :)

Apparently they still haven't fixed that issue from FFXI where their concept art for equipment sets looks great and then their modelers make them look kind of dumpy in-game. We'll see, though.

I think the mobs look the way they need to be... Unlike XI that version of Ahriman wasn't the best.

Oh and lets see an Orchu with an orchu look instead of calling an Orchu a Malboro and creating a real orchu in later expantions lol.

Personaly I'm just glad they are sticking with the same clothing/armor as applied to the character style and not copping out like so many MMOs have with painted on armor.

As for the Ahriman, it is nice to see it go back to a more traditional design. IMO the traditional looks more demonic and intimidating than the design used in XI.

Probably for the reason of wanting to make XIV familiar to XI players as they have said before and same devs nonetheless.

I don't know about you guys but every time I think of Ahriman

comes to mind.

Glad the styles haven't changed much. I like the updates to some characters. I liked the feeling of FFXI it was just the battle system got me down a little bit. This game is beginning to look very impressive in design and concept from my standpoint.
