I've been trying to keep up on the news, but has there been any word about how important money will be in XIV?
Right now, it's sort of a make or break thing for me. After seeing what RMT did to XI, I'd end up not playing XIV at all if the money system was just as open to manipulation as XI was. I don't mind putting in the time to get Gil to, in turn, get items, but the worth of my time should be based on the effort I put in, not the 24-hour chop shop in China.

If there hasn't been any news, is there a chance at getting a mod to bring this up when next there is an interview opportunity?

All we really have so far:

We're going work hard on [stopping RMT and botting], same as in FFXI with the task force. Also for example, at the moment we're trying to add a filter in FFXI to combat it on the spot, instead of waiting for a patch in order to combat the issues. It will be more flexible.

In their interview with Hiromichi Tanaka, FFXIVCore asked if the economy in FFXIV is going to be player based with Auction Houses or non-player based with NPC run stores.

Here is SE's response:

We can't go into details about this just yet. We're very sorry about that. This question is better suited to be asked in a couple of months time. However, it's going to be not the same as with auctionhouses, but something very interesting.

It's still pretty early for any solid information.

Making gil the hard way was always fun. I so enjoyed putting in the work for it. Then it got all crazy with gil sellers and all, then the economy fell apart. All the massive spam tells uggg.

I can only hope the economy in FFXIV turns out better. Wait I know it will be. /em crosses fingers.

As players, it is incredibly difficult to foresee how the game economy will end up. Honestly it is impossible for us to even reasonably speculate until at least release.

I'm a little shaky on the items wearing down. Not to big a deal because it seems like the game will be mostly weapons based and not focus on Armour as your appearance changes when you change weapons.

I'm quite glad FFXI never got armour that degraded. You may say "it cost RNGs and NINs gil to XP," but I doubt you ever spent nearly as much as I did on gear in comparable levels and I'd have been ****** to have to keep farming, mining, and NM hunting just to keep my **** in shape.

I hope the money system in FFXIV is just as open to rampant capitalism as FFXI was though. There were problems, sure, but I thought it was kind of amazing how a video game managed to have a mini-depression.

Looks like they give you money after completing some quests. 2000 gil in this quest.

Don't think for a second that there won't be RMT. I'm hoping just as a lot of the FFXI players go to XIV, the RMT will follow them. That will make what's left of the XI experience better.

I think they will just exploit two games. However, SE got ALOT of experience now, so i think it will become quite hard for RMT to do their business. Im not saying it will be impossible, and there probably will be RMT. But as they stated they will use something else than a AH, im just thinking that this is also to prevent RMT somehow.

One of the things that caught my attention is the implication that HELMing, gardening and such will be things you develop proficiency for over time, as a Disciple of Land or what not. And the further suggestion that advancement of your class is based less on grinding and more on completing guildleves.

It looks as if they are making an effort to make the initial time investment to begin aggregating gil a little steeper. (Time sinks...they're certainly appealing for the HNMLSs to move to XIV...)

Not that RMT are above questing for gil (Selbina Clay) or crafting (mmm...coffee muffins)...

I also think you will be earning money as a Linkshell, rather than on your own. I think this because they have been mentioning that linkshells will be quite different from FFXI and be more like an "organization" of some kind. Not much info has been released on this. but it would be pretty cool to work together as an organization to earn money together. Although, on the other side, it might be really hard for newbies to make money after a year when there are already many succesful organization throughout the world.
