DD? Healer? Tank? Support? Personally I'm going healer. I love being wanted by everybody, and never having trouble finding groups.

Support through and through. I love seeing a single spell I cast have a tremendous effect on gameplay.

Hand-to-hand DD (and willing to tank if allowed in small groups). Then maybe magic DD or DD/healer hybrid. I'm assuming this is all in the context of combat. Then healer and/or support. I kind of got burned out on pure tanking for now, I think, but I'm sure I will eventually try it in XIV.

I am going to start as Archer. Hopefully it won't be a expensive job to start.

Support for me assuming they dont pull a wtf and make it useless/undesirable otherwise i'll just be a DD.

My channel with FFXI battle music and hard to find songs that were not even released on Original Soundtracks.

I also plan on uploading FFXIV music when the game is released.

Hmm, still working out my race but definitely the closest thing to a Dark Knight cause they didn't get enough praise in XI. As far as races played a Hume in XI, looking at Elezen and Lalafell this time :3. So DD all the way!

DD with either a polearm/lance or Hand-to-Hand and I'd be a lalafell.
and if none of those work out I'll take up Black Magic again.

loved my tarutaru dragoon and monk in xi.

I'm hoping they will have a GKatana or dual katanas for a ninja/samurai feel.
If I understand the customization properly, maybe a Paladin. (Tank w/ self heals and abilities)

A lalafell red mage, or the closest thing to it.

You might have problems with that, chief. No pet jobs confirmed until the first expansion, supposedly.

BLM because I love the balance of damage and hate, judging when to cast lower tier spells and when to nuke to finish the job.

WHM because I like having the responsibility of keeping a party alive. Makes me feel more useful. It can be a bit daunting to start with, but it's incredibly satisfying when you get good at it.

BST because it's fun. I know there is no pet class yet, but I'd like to think there is too much demand for it never to be an option.

Mitigation/avoidance tank to get used to system, moving on to DD (SAM) when I feel comfortable.
I don't believe in good guys versus bad guys anymore… I only see a plethora of states acting in self interest… with varying ethics and moral standards of course, but self-interest nonetheless

With everybody here saying they plan on being some kind of mage or melee class first, that encourages me more to stick with my plan of starting out as a fisherman. I want to start out by getting a little bit of gil to build on. I'll probably follow up with chef, in the hope that I can cook what I catch; my plan is to either sell my finished product or barter with my friends for their services.

As far as combat jobs go, I'm thinking either Gladiator or Marauder. My only level 75 job right now in FFXI is PLD, so I'm used to being up close and personal with the enemy.

Actually someone said archer. I agree i would love to do that job. I could never do it in FFXI cause i was always poor and trying to level up a different job just so i could scrape some money to do something else.

Or a thief, making money and getting items people don't normally is always fun.

I guess i choose these simply because with FFXIV being a lot more centered on solo play, i will use my spare time for these jobs then conform to something when i play with my buddies.

For my very first role I'll want to be support...
I'm just a little worried that the first couple levels may be difficult when levelling a support character, unless you first level a DD weapon...
I guess get some BLM magic first, then start levelling my white magic weapon skill?

Hopefully they'll make it so that support characters can solo right off the bat

I'm wanting to create a Dark Knight type character like I had in FFxi. So I'll probably start out as a DPS class with a 2handed weapon. As I go along I'll switch to black magic user as well.

Disciplines of Magic is what I'm going to work on first with a bit of Disciplines of War training. I'm mostly aiming to play Support and Damage Dealing roles, examples Black Mage and Bard. If Geomancer is a class that is playable I'm going to be a GEO no questions asked lol.

I'm pretty much going for a DD, bushido wiedling, great katana, type class to have that title, as early as possible. I'm thinking you might have to wield common swords first before you can use a grt. katana. From the info I've seen thats my guess. I'm gonna start black smithing, early on. Or fishing, which ever of the two are easier to maintain, as I want to fight more than craft.

I'm definitely going to do magic with an emphasis on healing.

Healing and buffing magic will always come first for me, followed by magical attacks.

I get bored with fighting in a lot of games because it seems repetitive. I hardly get bored as a healer because I know I need to stay on my toes to keep everyone alive. One split second mistake means the death of everyone.

I guess I like that rush and responsibility.

Also, never trouble finding groups, but sometimes annoyed by constant requests to join groups when all I want to do is solo. Talk about a double edged sword.

But with an armory system and changing skills at any moment (outside of battle), and the no-auto attack option, I'm beginning to reconsider my choices. Maybe going a melee route won't be so boring after all.
Toasting makes me uncomfortable. But toast I love. Never start the day without a good piece of toast. In fact, let's toast to toast.
