Hope they do a Pet Class in EventuallyFollow

I was a little disappointed to hear they didn't have one currently, but then I remembered that there weren't any initially in FFXI (At least, I THINK they added Drg later, though they may have had Bst from the start).

I usually end up using these in games (I find Pup from XI very attractive).

So, then I ended up thinking about how it would fit in. If they add spears later, they could include a Drg-like class.

I also thought about "compound" classes that "turn" you into a certain class. Like, having a spear in the main slot and a wyvern collar in the ammo/ranged slot would give you jump skills and a pet.

I also thought about a Bst-like class that would equip whips. With the graphical abilities of the new game, these could finally be viable. I hope it has a permanent pet, though (or maybe a weak perma-pet and the ability to tame others).

I hope that SE decides to put at least one in eventually, preferabbly with varying levels of pet dependency (like in FFXI, but even larger). As a Bst or Pup, your abilities, damage and survival were WAY lower without a pet. As a Smn (at least how players ended up using it) or Drg, it wasn't as bad. Though, it was worse for the latter.

That way, people who really want to invest in the pet have a class and those who just want a partner do as well.

I'm pretty confident that they'll add a pet class in the first expansion.

Initially, XI had only beastmaster, I think. RoZ introduced Summoner (mostly), Ninja, Dragoon and Samurai.

Not sure how they'd work a pet class in tbh. But if/when they do I hope the added the option to make other peoples' pets invisible/walk-through-able. Hated being blocked by someone else's pet effectively doubling the size of the area the player actually took up. Was moreso annoying/pet-peeve than anything else.

I don't mind seeing the pet when I need/want to, but when I don't need/want to, I'd like to have the option.

Smn was actually added in a regular update, before RoZ. Smn doesn't require access to a post-RoZ area to unlock. All the jobs released in expansions, aside from drg, do require access to areas introduced in the expansion, to unlock them.

If they do a BST-like class I hope the do it more like a Tamer in which you don't just run out and charm up a pet use it til its useless and release it. Make it more like "a pokemon" styled thing and allow us to keep a stable of different creature instead of having pretty much only cannon fodder to use.

I'm very confident that they'll have multiple pet classes. I'm mostly looking forward to DRG or BST, though. I'm still unsure about how well the pets would fit into the game, though, until we know more detail about how the game works.

I just figure it's SE waiting for the ability to add in a distinct "new job" in the first expansion pack. "Disciple of the Beast" or something similar. A whole new job that allows you to train pets, whether they be ethereal summons or wild lizards.

Because, aside from expanding the 4 basic "jobs" they have, how can they add more? You start having to be pretty creative since those basic 4 comprise almost everything.

Maybe a pilot job, that can pilot airships or small ground vehicles? It doesn't really sound like SE, though it is possible, and could easily be it's own class. Beyond that, I'm throwing darts into nothingness.

I think SE's just thinking about the future and figures it's also convenient so that they can focus on the basic elements first. Would be a shame to ***** up a pet class.

Why add a new Disciple when you can just add weapons/armor that give Charm and other Beastmaster abilities?

But I agree that it's good for SE to wait and see how everything plays out before beginning Pet 'classes,' considering they're one of the hardest to balance correctly.

They aren't really hard to balance. The whole idea is simply that instead of 1 character, there are 2 characters.

But I do think SE does well in skipping pet classes since they haven't made them work in XI yet. When SMN and BST actually function in XI, then they can attempt to carry that knowledge into XIV.

Hey now, let's not be exclusionary. If we call it, say, "Disciple of the Leash" then we still leave room for those hoping to have pets of a different variety.

that would be awefully sad if they have no pet classes... i was unable to get into them too much in xi, the mechanics are just so different than the rest of the game... they always felt more like afterthought classes to me... my highest was smn at lvl 51... but i always love the fact of having a pet, i hope they make this game more pet friendly than xi..

It's a wise choice to make, pet classes are **** hard to balance compared to normal ones.. I wouldn't want to have them around for the first year or two of the game's life at least. In the end once SE finally decides to release some pet jobs, they'll be better off than if they were around from the start.

not holding my breath for pet classes. They were mostly failures in XI anyways as SE doesn't seem to know how to balance them.

What about implementing them later on down the line as a pet-training 'skill' instead of a class? Pet or summoning skills with a seesaw effect to balance? It would just require use of a staff or club or.. bells?!

Equip a whip. Get some taming skills and you have yourself a beastmaster.
I'm sure SE will implement as many ways to fight monsters as possible.
I'm just sad there are no jobs. I wanted Time Mage and a throne..

Beastmaster as it was in XI won't happen, I can tell you that right now. Charm will more than likely never make an appearance, because just look at what they've done to balance in XI. They phased it out, because they don't know how to make it balanced. They won't make that same mistake twice.

PS: Shinta, couldn't Reis tame dragons or some **** in Tactics? I don't remember, 'cause I never really used him.

Reis was a Dragon/Dragoner (and a girl). Dragoon is actually Lancer in FFT. It features the jump attacks, armor that resembles the DRG AF (and other DRG armor in FF lore), and of course uses a lance.

I think its only other unique trait was Auto-revive. Not 100% on that though.

But yes, she had a move that allowed her to recruit dragons. Unfortunately the Dragoner abilities were not that useful, but I think she had some excellent stats (and as a woman, could equip Chantage).

And it truly was a slap in the face once you did unlock SMN. I truly believe the SMN in XI was setup as a plaything for higher ups that *ALREADY* went through and received all the prime unlocks. Trying to level up with our loveable psycho squirrel was a painful process. Then at the start of the NA release, you also had to deal with the two mind-sets on how SMNs were supposed to run their jobs within a team.

We can only hope that the game designers can surprise us with some worthy pet classes in XIV.

Yeah BST seemed to be more a manipulation of already in place game mechanics that were simply turned into a Job. BST was so unloved, but had so much potential to make it a great Job.

I am hoping for a "Mechanic" type job with a pet element maybe or perhaps the FF Tactics version of BST where "capture/poach"ing allowed you to manipulate your pet, level it and do a ton of other cool things.

I will dearly miss BST and it will also be hard not to see my beloved AF, which provided the tremendous amount of motivation needed for me to main it as my first Job back in the olden days, when it was actually hard to level.
