If there's no jump, they just need to make the terrian so you don't get stuck on small rocks or stairs. Like in Ordelle's Cave when you would run up the stairs/ramps, you'd sometimes get stuck on the steps, if there's nothing like that it shouldn't be a problem.

In LoTRO the ability to jump creates a lot of options for exploiting. Due to the fact that if a monster is attacking you, but it can't see you, it will enter anti-exploit mode; where it can't be hit, or won't hit you. Sometimes players purposely bug out adds by jumping on ledges. It creates more problems than it's worth in LoTRO.

That's not a function of jumping...that's a function of exceptionally poor anti-exploit code in the mob AI. You can't even LoS mobs in LOTRO half the time (ie. run around a corner to force casters/ranged attackers to close range on you).

****, most of the time you can't even fire from medium range on an open field with no obstacles between you and the mob and not have it go into anti-exploit mode. They really need to draw and quarter whomever is responsible for that code and pike them outside Turbine's offices as an example to future employees.

What makes you think they didn't? That's probably why it was never fixed, the only guy that knew how it worked is off being piked somewhere.

For the record, I don't care if I can jump in FFXIV so long as it doesn't seem like I should have been able too. I often feel like FFXI was designed to be played by a taru, with the other four races that are above 3 feet tall added in as an after thought.

That isn't to say I dislike jumping, but if it's not a necessary part of the gameplay mechanics, I really could care less.

This seems to have upset quite a few people.

Some so upset they put their clothes on backward, possibly as an expression to how "backward" this decision is perhaps?

I'm not particularly disappointed that there is no jump function in FFXIV, but I will be disappointed if its the same 2D character movement in a 3 dimensional world that I've seen in, heck, pretty much every JRPG ever.

Easy fix. Auto jump. If your character encounters something you'd get stuck on in FFXI they take appropriate action in FFXIV. I'm running along, come to a rock, I hop it. If it's to high I do the typical 'stuck walk'. Fence, hopped. Tarus, Lalfel, whatever they're called now - no issue here. If they can "Jump" just as well as the taller races as the Dragoon job, they obviously can hop a fence.
