What to play until FFXIV launch?Follow

I'm just curious as to what you guys plan on playing between now and FFXIV's launch. I stopped playing FFXI almost three months ago after playing for four years straight. It's hard to cope, I'm so used to playing and having in-game friends to talk to. I feel like I need FFXIV and now, but unfortunately that's not going to happen. So I'm waiting for Gran Turismo 5, hoping that game will last until FFXIII and then hoping FFXIII will last until FFXIV. That's the plan, but I'm looking for more ideas.

Currently I have been killing time with Oblivion trying out different mods. If I get bored with that I will probably either play Morrowind or AoC.

As far as having others to talk with, I just fire up Vent even when I play single player games.

First I played FFI, since I had never played it before (or any of them up until, and including, VI).

But it just couldn't make me want to play FFII right afterwards, so I decided to play Morrowind with some mods.

I started playing it, but then I had a virus and I had to reinstall Vista on a different hard drive and then reformatted my other one (after transferring most of my important stuff over).

And for some reason I just couldn't get Morrowind to work again with the same mods and, having played it several times without them, I wanted something new and didn't want to play the 'same old' Morrowind again.

So after much torture I finally gave up and decided not to play again.

Considered playing Oblivion, but I've played it to death.

So then I started playing Pandora Saga...a F2P MMORPG with some friends, but it quickly got boring because even though it was the English version, most of the players were from Malaysia. They would always add random words into their sentences like 'la', 'lo', and 'le'...and my friends and had had no idea what they were saying half the time so we stopped playing after a few weeks.

Then, my other friend finally lent me back my PS2, so I was able to finally play other games again.
So I picked up FFXII for the second time and so I'm playing that. Going through completing the bestiary and getting every item...again...just to stay busy.

After that it will be Disgaea 1 and 2...probably...and then another friend wants me to play F.E.A.R., but I hate scary games but he insists that it's awesome...so maybe I will.

Oh, and going to several different FFXIV forums, reading FF news, reading real news, and practicing Japanese.

And of course...working a full time job.

Well I own an Xbox 360 and I can tell you what I'll probably be playing from now 'til then (which is a very long time from now btw). I'll be buying NHL 10 in a weeks time, this'll last me almost all season long. In November I'm gonna have to decide on one of, two of, or perhaps all three of the following games: Modern Warfare 2, Dragon Age: Origins, and Assassin's Creed 2, and i really want to play all three of them. Bioshock 2 I'd imagine is an early release next year, which will hold me well (along with NHL 10 and MW2) up until FFXIII's release, at this point I will most likely play this game until FFXIV is released.

If all you do to kill time is play video games, there's plenty of other games to keep you busy, but if you're juggling work and school (college, uni?) and hobbies (video games), then I think my list will be more than enough :P.

When I'm not playing FFXI, I've got enough games on my Wii to keep me occupied. I recently picked up Wii Sports resort, and I played it so much the first night that my arm was sore the next morning. Now I'm getting back into Mario Kart Wii in an effort to unlock the last few vehicles and characters I have left.

I'm playing WoW now just did a faction change and went Horde :) The new expansion looks great with the reshaping of Azeroth and finally GOBLINS!!! But once FFXIV comes out it's a wrap.

Just wondering but could your Morrowind mod problem be from Vista's UAC? I always turn that thing off before I install mods, either that or unzip them into a temp folder on Desktop to bypass it.

On Topic, F.E.A.R. was a pretty decent game. Wasn't all that scary just kept you alert haha.

I'm also still getting some play out of WoW, and yeah the new expansion sounds pretty awesome! But FFXIV is what I'm looking forward to the most still, and will be my main MMO once it's out.

Whether WoW survives really depends on release order. If Cataclysm comes out first, I'll probably pick it up then take a break for FFXIV. If FFXIV comes out first, I might skip cataclysm and only go back to WoW if FFXIV somehow ends up really sucking, which I don't expect it to.

Yeah. SNES games rock. Secret of Mana does kick ***. Just today I was thinking about picking up a SNES from Amazon.com so I can play through Actraiser (by Enix) again. I love that game's soundtrack.
I own both a PS3 and XBOX 360, both of which, I have loads of games I have yet to play, but intend to, as I await the arrival of FFXIV.

Games for PS3 I am playing, or will play:

1) Folklore
2) Call of Duty: World at War (go **** zombies)
3) FFVII ( ah, the childhood memories of beating those weapons and breeding gold chocobos)
4) Demon's Souls
5) Dragon Age: Origins
6) White Knight Chronicles
7) FFXIII
8) Batman: Arkham Asylum
9) Little Big Planet
10) Dante's Inferno
11) Borderlands

Games for the XBOX 360 I am playing, or will play:

1) Star Ocean
2) Left for Dead 1&2 (What can I say, I love killing zombies)
3) Fallout 3 (Yet to have played Mothership Zeta)
4) Fable 2
5) Shadow Complex
6) Prototype
7) Ninja Gaiden II
8) Mass Effect 1&2
9) Halo 3 ODST

Games for DS I will play:

1) FFIV (my favorite of the FF series)

I also highly recommend Tales of Vesperia for the XBOX 360 (sometime coming to PS3 with a brand new minigame). Kept me busy for a solid week of non-stop play, and that's rushing through the storyline, and 60 hours logged.

Nope, not the UAC. I always turn that off as well and I'm administrator (and the only user on the PC).

I was trying to use the MGE (Morrowind Graphics Enhancer) that lets the game make use of newer video card features like pixel shaders, high anti-aliasing, and anisotropic filtering. I was also using the Morrowind Code Patch, which makes several newer mods usable and fixes things like random crashes, corrupt saved, games, and other bugs.

Morrowind has always been pretty buggy and I didn't want to put in several hours, just to have my saved games go kaput.

I had MCP and MGE working just fine until I had to reformat that HD and I reinstalled to a different HD. I don't know why, but for whatever reason I couldn't get it working properly again and the game always crashed on start.

I finally gave up trying. I wanted to play the game graphically enhanced (with MGE it looks SO much better...water is almost like Oblivion's) and with new mods...but I wasn't able to.

Oh well.

As far as F.E.A.R. goes, I hate scary stuff. Scary movies, scary games...I hate being scared...but my friend insists I should play.

I always cave in under peer pressure!

Can't go wrong with either of those two titles. If you've never played Bioshock/Oblivion, you're in for a good time.

Hmm that mod problem is strange. Doubt running it in window mode would help either.

As for F.E.A.R. just keep many lights on and have friends over haha.

I've played both. I haven't finished Bioshock and I used to have oblivion for 360 but got rid of the system (kept failing). I think it'll be a good buy for only $30.00.

EDIT: (questioned answered)

Nothing.

Stick with FFXI.

I have played so many MMOs that it has clouded the enjoyment I have with upcoming ones. I think at last count (Not including MUD/MUSHes) my MMOs to date is 12.
Stick with FFXI so you will fully appreciate FFXIV when it hits the shelves.

I find that the same applies to RPGs, I have a personal rule that states I will not play multiple RPGs at the same time. I find that it draws away from the entire experience. Jumping from FF6 to FF10 makes it just that much more enjoyable as I often sit back and review in my mind the pros and cons of everything involved. Ie. Story line, gameplay etc etc.

FFXIV is seemly more and more an updated FFXI each time I see it. It is as if SE wanted to com around and redo everything that they were not able to do with FFXI due to technical limitations. With that in mind your previous MMO should be... FFXI.

Still playing XI here, no interest in switching to XIV since it's going to be so radically different from XI, and so similar to WoW.

I did pick PSO back up and registered on the private server, so if SE pulls the plug on XI then I think I'll go back to PSO. I forgot just how fun that game really is.

I am planning to play Aion, that will come out in the end of this month and plan to play it until FFXIV comes out. I stoped playing FFXI about 2 month ago after 5-6 years off playing, I just had enough.

I am also playing FFX at the moment, all over again. Plan to play some off the older FF games it's been a while.

Currently playing Champions Online, which is a lot of fun and a good filler. I've also reconnected my PS2 to try and play through FFX through FFXII when I don't feel like loggin' on to an MMO or want to stay upstairs with the Mrs. (who is also waiting for FFXIV).

I was hoping Guild Wars 2 would release sometime between, but it looks like it's release date is currently further out than FFXIV (although both are unannounced at this time). I have no interest in Aion, either...so I'll just plug away with CO and console games until FFXIV releases. I still have a lot of achievements to unlock on my 360 games, too.

So many games so little time...
Currently occupying myself with, BlazBlue, Cross Edge, FFXI, Seiken Densetsu 3. I would recommend a few games for keeping your self occupied though. Oblivion. Mod it mold make it better endless hours of added content to be found. Fallout 3 (if on PC) Same as Oblivion. Neverwinter Nights 2. **** go back and play every single game you ever loved on past consoles and see how much easier they are than when you were 10. Those are just some of my suggestions but the anticipation for XIV is still there even for me. Its something that won't go away until I have the game in hand and log in only to see that the servers have crashed from an overload. Thats when the anticipation will end.

Edit: ExhumedLight, there wont be a "monthly" fee per-say its going to be a payment every 30days to alleviate double-payments for those who activate their account near the end of the month.

Most certainly there will be a fee for playing FFXIV. Hopefully, the price will be $12.95 per month. Oh, and the option of prepaid cards would be nice.

ugh no kidding. FINDING the game and PAYING for it were two things I hated about FFXI. I originally played FFXI on the PS2 when I was 15, not old enough for a credit card (my parents wouldn't let me use theirs either), so I had to transfer funds through my bank to some "virtual credit card" website, it was a pain.

Then, when I moved to go to college and only had my PC, I had to buy a PC copy of the game, of which I was told had been "discontinued." I had to buy it online, and about a year later had to do so again after I had to reinstall the game and had lost the CD. One great thing about WoW that I hope they add to FFXIV, is that you could download the entire game online from their website.

I am playing Wizard 101...I know, everyone just chuckled to themselves and probably think I'm crazy. Truth is, my kids wanted to play and I decided I would let them. Now I play with them and it's actually a very fun game! It's refreshing to play a game where the worst name you can be called is a noob (chat filters are in place because it's a 'kid friendly' game). The game is f2p through about the first 12-15 levels, and then you can pay a few bucks to unlock a new area or pay a monthly fee and have free access. I liked this because I could try it out, mess around with different classes, and then pay for the content that I wanted to play. PvP is included-ranked and practice modes. You can change any server at any time and the quest helper is nicely done. You will run into a lot of "please help me" and sometimes people seem to just sit in a fight and do nothing (combat is turned base)...but it's worth it in the end, and I have enjoyed myself thoroughly for the last 2 months.

There is actually a large adult player base, and you can check out the forums to see where they are playing and stuff like that. The other really neat part is that you can instantly travel to people on your friends list--this is great for helping them with a fight, and then instantly go back to what you were doing. It's very fun--check it out!

I have a hard time finding the motivation for single player games these days, but here are the ones I'm playing when I do:

Disgaea PSP
FFIV DS

And I want to finish the after stories for FFIV, as well as Dissidia and FFXIII before the release of XIV. I might play Mother 3. Other than that it will probably depend on what comes out for the PSP. I'm wanting to play Persona when it gets a port.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

I'm not playing anything right now besides Street fighter 4 and Dissidia. So once I'm done with dissidia, i'll be playing SF4 but I am getting tired of it so planning this out...

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (9/15)
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 (9/29)
I already played Demon's Souls but if you haven't, I heavily suggest you get it since it's a really good game especially if you're up for a challenge. (10/6)
Way Of The Samurai 3 (10/13)
Uncharted 2 (10/13)
Tekken 6... maybe (10/27)
Modern Warfare 2 (11/10)
Assassin's Creed 2 (11/17)
MAG (1/26)
Heavy Rain Q1 or Q2 2010
God of War 3 March 2010
Final Fantasy XIII Spring 2010

Out of all of these games though, some are just rentals (MUA2, AC2, HR, Uncharted 2(unless multiplayer is great)). But yeah, hopefully these games will last you until then. Also, forgot to mention All Points Bulletin and Arkham Asylum. ;)

I just bought Fable II, so I have that to drain away my life for awhile. There's Assassin's Creed II to in a couple months, the version of Fallout 3 with all five DLC is also looking like a good buy, then next year there's Bioshock 2. And I can always kill a few hours with Team Fortress 2. I've also not gotten around to Mass Effect, so that's on the list. The new Batman game is supposed to be fairly good, but I try not to buy games new. The price is usually cut in half if you can wait six months and get it used. I might try FFXIII, but honestly XII was so bad and XI is being so horrifically mishandled lately that I've lost a lot of faith in SE, so I'm not sure about that one.

You should have time for many different activities because in all likelihood it will be 12 or more months from now until 14 is released.

Hopefully my new PC gets here in time for Fallen Earth. If the game is good, it might last me until FF14 comes out.

Other than that, I'm relying on Law and Order: SVU marathons to keep me busy. 2010 is so far away...

I'll be playing Aion mainly. I also need to finish Lost Odyssey, Eternal Sonata, Disgaea 1, FF8, and FF Dissidia. Later when they release I need to play Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, FFXIII, Persona 1 PSP, Persona 3 PSP (Hopefully) and Pokemon Heartgold/Soulsilver (Don't know which to get).

My channel with FFXI battle music and hard to find songs that were not even released on Original Soundtracks.

I also plan on uploading FFXIV music when the game is released.

I've been enjoying Atlantica Online. It's surprisingly fun for a F2P MMO.

Reminds me in a weird way of Final Fantasy Tactics somehow.

I'm playing FFXII right now. I never played it but it is one of the best in the recent series. Reminds me (obviously) of FF Tactics and Vagrant Story, but also Secret of Mana with its music.

I've also wanted to try Persona 3/4...

I also might buy a PS3, still not sure yet though. I couldn't see playing any MMORPG with a pad and not a keyboard, but I sure would like to play FFXIV on my couch.

FYI, FFXIII will be sold in a PS3 Slim bundle. I'm guessing it will have at least 250 GB memory, as EU are selling 250 GB PS3 bundles with sports and racing games. IMO, wouldn't be a better time to buy a PS3.

I've been playing Eve Online since I quit FFXI a couple months ago and have really been enjoying it a lot. In fact, with the upcoming release of Dust I might not even bother with FFXIV. Dust will be a console only game while Eve Online is pc only. They will both take place in the Eve universe and be fully integrated. Dust will be a FPS MMO consisting of the mercenary ground forces who will be transported and supported by the ships of Eve online. The ships fight and secure the space in the solar systems while the ground forces fight and secure the planets. I mean, how cool is that?

Has anyone played Sacred 2 and care to comment on it? I usually stay informed about RPG games, but this one seems to have slipped under my radar. From all accounts it seems like an MMORPG without the MMO. It seems like a good game, but reviews seem to agree that the main storyline is very lackluster, though the rest of the game (getting gear, killing stuff and such) is fairly satisfying.

I am personally also looking forward to White Knight Chronicles, but it seems as though a US release date is still a ways off. I've also thought about playing Oblivion again, but having put over 200 hours into it, I've pretty much exhausted the (PS3) content twice over.

For now, I'm still playing FFXI.
