It will probably take at least few years from release until SE adds some form of PvP content. I wouldn't hold my breath for this game if PvP is what you're looking for.

I was watching some vids and I think they said that PVE is going to be their main focus and that there won't be a PVP server because that would be the minority when the game is mostly based on PVE. Maybe later on they'll add more PVP options but who knows, for me I'm happy with what they are doing sice I loved PVE in FFXI by playing with a lot of friends to take down big bosses and that sort of thing.

Personally I'm content with keeping ballista as long as they make it more accessible to the player base. I believe that a sports type of PVP is quite more enjoyable than merely slaying each other w/o much reason other than making your e-peen larger. More than PvP though I'm hoping to see some sort of card game.

they've said in a recent interview that they are focusing on PVE there may be a pvp mode added in later like how ballista was... hopefully it wont be ballista, it will be a much better system

don't get me wrong ballista was fun... for a while... but then ya... they could have executed it a lot better, and made it available to everyone at all times instead of having wierd matches annnyyywaayayy... they've said little but thats what they've said

Yep not much said about PvP yet other than not being the game focus and probably a PvP sport will be the direction of it.

;P yes I could have used worse gramer hehe.

I'd prefer optional PVP. It seems silly to me that they aren't at least adding duels.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

Useless development time that could be used on adding more PvE content instead. More balance issues to take care of.

When the game isn't even trying to cater to PvP players, luring them in with something like duel system would be a silly move in itself.

I am a big pvper, but for the love of god please keep PVP out of my final fantasy game. It's just too hard to balance both aspects. Look at WoW, classes are constantly being nerfed and then buffed and then nerfed again in a vain attempt to "balance" both pvp and pve. It will never work out. If you want PVP in a game, go play WoW.

WoW isn't the game to PVP in either. It's system is pretty poor as well. If you want to "PVP" it's time to start playing online FPS, because it doesn't get much more PVP than that.

If there had been a dueling option in FFXI, the game would have been substantially more successful. Say what you want about it, but even if only halfway well-done, it's better to include the option than not. Besides, it's so easy to include. Balance is tougher, but if it's just for fun, then they don't need to worry much about balancing it anyway.

Oh come on, for a "big pvper" you haven't experienced much of ballista have you? D: They balance things by adjusting combat only when you are participating in ballista. I don't want open wuuurld PVP or anything, but having at least some small system where you can go to fight people would be lovely.

I don't understand the ballista hate from everybody who doesn't.. do ballista. Sure it's system is wack and the players are in the very small minority but we who do it seem to love it. The timing of matchs is the worst thing, and the fact that each cap cannot run simultanously, so you rarely get to be able to PVP, other than rental-areas. Also lolbrenner.

Basically; it does not have any effect on PvE'ers. There doesn't need to be exp gained, or nice equipment, or huge gil to make it fun. Just having some way of fighting others would be great.
